How about some good news!?!
« on: July 08, 2009, 01:03:29 am »
I saw the doctor today and got the results of my first labs since I switched to Isentress and Truvada.

Drum roll please . . . my lipids are NORMAL!  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

That is the first time in a very long time that I can say that. How appropriate it comes in the same month as the 24th anniversary of my testing positive. Is that something to celebrate or commiserate?

Here's how the numbers went:

                                        2/16/09                     3/16/09                     6/30/09

Overall cholesterol       228                              214                           188

LDL Cholesterol            158                              141                           124

HDL Cholesterol            38                                 42                               29

Triglycerides                   158                              153                            177

CPKs                                602                              2,857                         305

So, it looks like switching meds has certainly helped lower the lipids. I am still taking 500 mgs of Niaspan and 6,000 mgs of fish oil, the latter of which is doing a pretty good job holding down the triglycerides.

Since I stopped all statins, the CPKs have dropped nicely, for which I am quite grateful. The normal range should be less than 200, but I don't know if I will ever drop that low again. The doctor thinks I may have permanently elevated CPKs

The lipids are still not as low as I would like, and not as low as the doctor would like, but they are in the more or less normal range, which is good enough for the moment.

Oh yeah, and the other stuff:

CD4s came in at 1,020, so they are still OK. Viral load was undetectable, as it has been for 13-plus years.

The doc wants to check my lipids again in September, see how things are going. I'll get the viral load and CD4 done sometime in December.

My liver enzymes are still elevated, as they have been for a while - (read: NASH). But those results are still pretty close to normal and the doctor hopes that dropping the lipids will help my liver make a comeback.

So, for the moment, I'm doing OK lipidwise. Let's here it for Isentress, Truvada, olive oil, Niaspan, fish oil and red yeast rice.

HUGS,

Mark
