I stumbled across this site and thought it would be fun to try out for entertainment purposes.  You are able to cut/paste any text and have it analyzed and it spits out the person your writing style most resembles.

Which author does your writing emulate?

It told me that I write like James Joyce

I must be doing something different than most of y'all; three times it has given David Foster Wallace (I love his Infinite Jest, but I could never say that I write like him).

Oh, and just now I pasted one of my replies from the Spanish forum and it brought up Vladimir Nabokov.

Evidently we all have multiple personalities.
One entry gave me James Joyce. Then William Gibson. Then David Foster Wallace. Then Jackie Collins.  ;D
I dont even know the 2nd, and 3rd...

Jackie Collins.  ;D

Try typing something in French or German. I bet you will get Nabokov.

I got different authors depending on what text I entered, but if I retried with the same text later, it still gave me the same authors.

I was tempted to post a snippet from Hustler just to see what I'd get.  Besides an erection.

Its probably a key words kind of search.  But it wouldn't surprise me if Amazon has all sorts of corpus tools.

I typed in the following off the top of my head...

"The occasion returned mixed emotions: gleefulness, introspection and a craving for a jelly filled doughnut.

Good.  Just my profile.  Such emotions made tracing the origins of the buddy call hard to detect.

What to do?  Perhaps a heartfelt discussion on the merits of disclosure would be a good place to start.

John looked at his only child, a grown man of thirty with strange curiosity.  Did I help to create this person?
A self-congratulatory pat on the back returned a soothing feeling."

...and received the note that "I write like Charles Dickens".   Go figure.  :D
"He is my oldest child. The shy and retiring one over there with the Haitian headdress serving pescaíto frito."

It told me I wrote like Stephen King.

I got Douglas Adams.  Doesn't seem like anyone else listed him so I wonder what makes it lean that way.  I'm a huge fan of both Douglas Adams and Terry Pratchett so I take it as a compliment.
