First Public Presentation Today
« on: June 15, 2010, 11:15:46 pm »
Hi All:

I was asked to give a presentation today to an HIV Education Group in Miami at the healthcare facility I write grants for --- 38 positive individuals.  One was a 24 year LTS and many others with substantial years - it felt good -- sharing my experience - and how I try to make being positive a positive part of my life..... lots of good feedback.....  now, I am generating some ideas that in the coming weeks I may approach some of my friends here on POZ forums about......  I think I got more out of it then the group or maybe equally --- I think I know which direction my career should/will be heading in the near future.....  Thanks everyone for your support and for being a part of my life and allowing me to be part of yours.

I would gladly be your middle man, drain your venture of all potential cashflow and bankrupt your business for you.  Just take it under consideration.

Well done, Phil, glad it went well for you.

Now about those grants you write... can you write one for me? Pretty please? With sustiva sugar on top?

Phil,

Bravo ! Sharing your experience with other poz individuals gives those struggling with disease a sense of hope and helps them learn to cope. I'm sure the satisfaction you received from the feedback was emotional for you also.
If I may ask, what were some of the questions and feedback you received? Were there any questions that you didn't expect?
With face to face exchange, the emotion is a lot more readable.

I wish you well on your new career!

Veritas - I was talking to all positive people so I didn't get too many questions.  Feedback was about m positive attitude, sense of humor and keeping it real.  Gave out my number to a lot of the people there.

I basically started by telling about m professional background and how I used to be a prevention specialist (talked to groups about stress management, anger management, drugs/alcohol, codependency, HIV/AIDS prevention, communication skills, etc) I did small groups, large groups, schools, jails, community centers, etc .   They say that people tend to teach what they need to learn ---- for all of my talking about prevention of HIV - I didn't follow my own lessons and ended up positive.

I also spoke about spirituality, staying connected, being involved, asking medical provider questions and living with HIV in a positive way.  Making it a positive experience.

Ann --- I write grants for non-profit 501 (c) 3 agencies - both as a private consultant and full time with my current employer a foundation that supports the 4th largest healthcare system in US.  I would love to write a grant for you - but you have to get that nonprofit status first   :)   Maybe we can get a few people together and come up with something that stretches across continents and really brings about change.

Thankse everyone for the positive feedback.

Hey, I must  be non-profit - at least I never seem to make any. That counts, doesn't it? ;)

Sounds like a good talk - especially the bit about not following your own advice. Bet that struck home with a few.

Yep, I'd probably love it. The local council workers here aren't anything to look at though. They used to use prison workers to do this type of work out in the community but they stopped because they were getting up to too much mischief - like meeting their squeeze on the outside for a quickie in the bushes.

When they're around I usually drive by and toss a half pack of cigs out the window.

Ever the philanthropist. But hey, wait, no blunts hidden in those half packs? tsk tsk tsk. ~shakeshead~

So Phil, do you have more lined up yet?

Ann - Landscapers? or Public Presentations?  I am going to get on the speaker's bureau of the ASO, so hopefully that will open up more opportunities to present.
