Intestine cells struggle. All stretched out, intestines cover an area the size of a tennis court. Gut cells are replaced every three to four days, a huge amount of work for the body. Your efforts are not in vain, philly. Will be asking my doc on next visit about a pancrecarb supply. I need to have this in the house since this diarrhea issue is a side effect that just won't stay away.

Pancrecarb is a commitment though.  I have to take 6 capsules/day for it to do any good.  The good thing about it is that it addresses absorption, and hence is all around better for your lab numbers as this means your body will be absorbing your HIV meds adequately.  I still combine it with imodium though, but my diarrhea issues are notably worse than most people and have been for a decade.

I still have periodic "D-days" but they are much, much less prevalent.  Also for those folks on ADAP reading this Pancrecarb might very well be on your state formulary as it is here where I live.

I talked to my doctor last week about starting Pancrecarb, and took my first dose last night. I have that 'uh-oh' got to run to the bathroom diarrhea. So, I am really hoping it will help.

I will talk to my doctor about it. I control my D with 8 imodiums a night. I know that this is not the solution and that there are other answers. Thanks for this post.

i had what I would call extreme diarreah for almost two years.  Complete liquid and food content made no difference.

I ended up getting an antibiotic for 'intestinal buggies' (undiagnosed) due to ... erm.. very rank farts and very excessive gassiness.

Combined with short term anti-diarreah meds the problem has alleviated greatly, but not completely.  But at least my farts don't gas out the building anymore.
