What is WAD?
« on: December 02, 2007, 01:12:33 am »
I've seen this acronym used a lot lately.  And I think it is one that should be retired, post haste.

How can you compare "World AIDS Day" with a glob of gum spit out on the sidewalk, a roll of paper money or the the end result of a five finger massage (as in "I just shot my . . .)?

Acronyms are a very handy tool is you are text messaging.  But in terms of World AIDS Day, please spell it out.  WAD should never find a home among words such as "radar" and "snafu".

Hope each of your World AIDS Day was the best ever.  Thom and I saw more red t-shirts in the stores today than we have ever seen.  Our community seemed to show their red color today.  And everyone in red acknowledged each other in one subtile way or another.  This is what World AIDS Day is all about.  Showing your commitment for the cause and the cure.  But, please don't call it WAD.

Ric

And I'm with both you guys, Ric and Ray.  I don't like that at all.

Can't say I'm bothered by it, but it does remind me of my sociology professor who said that all great societies (including the USA, sooner or later) are forced into decline after "shooting their WAD."

The acronym is kind of appropriate... I'm sure many of us are here due to a WAD!   ;)

Dearest Jan,

Don't beat ourself over this!  Remember that in San Francisco one of our long time brothers figured out what "Milker" meant.
