Im moving to the UK and I need Help!!
« on: September 14, 2008, 05:37:54 pm »
Hello everyone. So my story is that is live in the states now and i have a job with benifits. Well i have ADAP which pays for my copays for my meds.so technically I pay nothing for my meds. So my question is that how do people in the Uk pay for their meds? I would be on a workers visa so i dont know if that has a play in it. How is their health care there and do you know of any doctors there? If you could help me that would be great. Thanks :)

If your residency status is in order - which it will be if you have a working visa - then all your HIV meds will be provided free of charge, irrespective of your means.

I am sure that between the UK contributors we will be able to come up with a list of clinics for you to choose from.

Meds are free of charge at the clinic.  You will need to sign up at at HIV clinic.  I'm sure someone can suggest a clinic for you, provided you are ok with posting the city you plan on moving to.  Meds prescribed by your GP will be £7.  Depending on how many meds you receive from your GP and how often, you can also get a prepaid prescription card, which ensures that you pay no more than £90 a year for all your scripts.

Take your visa/passport with you (and a bill showing your new address) when you go to register with your GP (separate from your HIV consultant).  You can search online at the NHS website for GP's located in your catchment area.  You may want to take these documents with you when you register at the HIV clinic, but it's likely not necessary there.

Castar-

When are you planning on moving to the UK? I plan on going over on a student visa for my grad studies in Autumn of next year.

castar,

I've merged your latest thread with the thread you started the other day in the Treatment forum and put it here, in the Living forum, where you'll get more answers. Please also look at the thread you started in the Women's forum. In future, please don't start more than one thread on the same subject. Posting the same thread repeatedly is considered spamming and is not good internet etiquette.

Welcome to the forums and please, take the time to read our Welcome Thread where you can find out more about our posting guidelines and the website in general.

Good luck with your move. I'm also from the States and I moved to the UK nearly 18 years ago, long before I was poz, so unfortunately I can't really help with your questions. I married a Brit so I didn't come here on a worker's visa. Sorry.

Ann
