Go Greyhound,...And leave the driving to us....
« on: March 16, 2013, 07:32:52 am »

Snakes on a plane? Nope. Roaches on a bus.

http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/sideshow/snakes-plane-nope-roaches-bus-203548614.html

An unspecified number of roaches hitched a ride on a Greyhound bus to try to make a brand new start of it in old New York. Upon discovering the unfortunate infestation, the driver pulled over and radioed for another bus.

The Greyhound bus was carrying 48 people, according to NBC New York. It originated in Atlantic City. Timothy Stokes, spokesperson for Greyhound, said, "Once the driver became aware of the situation, the driver followed procedures by pulling the bus over to a safe location and notifying our dispatch office."

A passenger called WABC-TV and said roaches were crawling onto seats, along windows and into people's hair. Passengers took photos of the roaches and of passengers standing on the side of the road afterward. Greyhound has apologized for the incident and issued refunds to the affected passengers (vermin not included).

In 2011, AirTran passengers alleged that roaches crawled from air vents and overhead bins during a flight from Charlotte to Houston.

Actually, as bad as it is, it doesn't surprise me.  These buses travel all over, with passengers from all over the place. I would think a lot of these people bring their own pillows and blankets.  I would have thought that bed bugs, or head lice could have possibly been a potential problem.

And who knows what get packed into the luggage, from whatever destination you were at.

I wonder how often they fog/ debug these buses out . Ed and I have both seen roaches and the Amtrac train. ( at least the auto-train )

Greyhounds are nasty and vile in general.  I've only ever taken one and it was disgusting.  My bus was due to arrive in Pochahontas, VA around midnight.  I slept through the stop and awoke in Bluefield, WVA.

I knew better than to accept that it wasn't that far of a walk.  A "piece down the road" isn't a typical city block.  I walked all freaking night down through the darkest ass place in the world I've ever witnessed.  With excessive luggage no less.

That bus smelled like old people and leftover vomit.

If you bother to read the entire article it explains that this has happened on airplanes.

I sometimes take Greyhound to NYC though half of the time I take the train. They're actually clean compared to 15 years ago. I've probably taken at least 100 trips on them over 20 years. Maybe they only keep the ones in the Northeast clean because there are so many of them. Seriously, Pocahontas, VA? LOL

To NYC? Fascinating -- how much do you pay for an entire week of parking in Manhattan?

I used to keep myself entertained in the dog days of August in the East Village, very late at night, looking at the street, while I was walking. Because every rare once and awhile a huge palmetto cock roach would be crossing the street and headlights would shine under its body, you could see its legs and it would cast a long shadow on the hot blacktop.

I love seeing public sex.  I don't like when they get mad that you're watching.  This couple was having sex at the movies, and they got all pissy that they were being watched.

I just fly my broom. No cockroaches, but I have to be on the lookout for woodworm.

My broom doesn't, but it's not a problem. I just lean off to one side and let 'er rip! :)

It could have been worst.  If it was rats instead of roaches, that would be one Hell Ride.

I've ridden the Greyhound bus for over 50 years starting as a child and I don't recall seeing rats/roaches.  I even met my first long term partner of 15 years on the Greyhound bus when he sat next to me.  :)
