We've talked about him before on these boards, and yes, he's hot as hell.  What happened to Bryan Singer and the guy who played Superman in the last film?

Brandon Routh?  dunno... I know Joe Manganiello was up for the part but maybe they thought he was too old.  Definitely has a more sculpted body than Cavill, though he's been working out for some other "greek mythology" type movie.

I liked Brandon Routh.  I had read the new Superman was on hold while they were in talks to do a Super-Friends movie.

I first saw Brandon on "Will and Grace".  He played a gay boy-toy:

And, now Spiderman is going in a different direction with British actor, Andrew Garfield.  Many probably saw him last in "The Social Network"

Don't you guys think many gay guys like these super-hero movies, because of the gay undertones?  The characters have to hide who they really are and all that.  This gets talked about a lot among gays and even regular super-hero comic book/movie nerds.

In "Superman Returns", I remember a scene towards to end of the movie that was actually kind of emotional as a gay man.  Well, it must not have been too emotional, or I would remember the exact scene and lines.  It was obviously a shout out to the gays.  Bryan Singer, the director, is openly gay.  I remember thinking I bet he put that scene in there on purpose.  If anyone knows what I'm talking about and knows the scene, please post.

That's deep Teddy.  And here all along I thought it was just the spandex factor.  Guess I'm not hiding things enough in my life.

When I was a kid, I wanted to be Lois Lane carried through the sky in Superman's arms.

I ended up more like Margot Kidder babbling in the bushes.

It still burns me up that they didn't milk more out of Christopher Reeves for the role of Superman.  He could have made dozens of sequels before his death... now it's too late.  Think of it, Superman in a wheel chair.... I guess we could get a French guy to play the part effectively since Chris ain't here no more....

Why? He's not from America
but as Steven Colbert reminded us tonight (2/2/11) on a segment of the "Colbert Report" about why Superman should be played by an American: Superman crashed landed, was reared and lived in Smallville, Kansas, and he fought for "Truth, Justice and the American Way". ;D

It does seem strange that both Superman and Spiderman are going with British actors this time.  It almost seems like a marketing plan to get more Brits liking the Superheros.  Probably just a coincidence.  I wonder, though, if they are going the route of Batman now--having different actors instead of the same one like with Christopher Reeves and Toby McGuire.  It seems to have worked for Batman--except with Michael Keaton and Val Kilmer.

Christian Bale is British too, and he wants to keep the Batman role.
Talk about a British Invasion.

If they make The Sentry into a film could they please hire a hot middle aged Yank?

I don't get why the nationality of the actor is even being discussed here.  Actors get paid to become other people -- who gives a fuck where they were born?  I hear Meryl Streep is going to be playing Maggie Thatcher -- why an American and not a Brit??  Oh, maybe because she has no real peers in being able to become someone else??   ::)
