I visited the ACTU at Stanford to see what opportunities there were for clinical trials, but only to find out that Stanford got hit with a 30% cut to their ACTU unit.  Although not as devastating as what happened to Galveston, Dallas, or USC ACTU, it has already had an impact and research staff has been layed off.  As a result, there are fewer people left to do clinical trials and there is a possibility that Maraviroc won't even make it in the door.

I would like to organize a Bay Area fund raiser for the purpose of replacing some of the cash lost due to the federal cuts to the ACTU.  Perhaps we could coordinate fund raising activities in Dallas and other areas that have been hit with this demise.

Some of the fund raising techniques that might work would be to:

   1)  Register various ACTUs with the Good Search Engine.
   2)  Setup tables at Wal-mart for selling concessions.
   3)  Organizing a charity dinner.
   4)  Ask Congress to levy a 90% income tax on oil company revenue for the
purpose of reopening the ACTU's nationally and restoring full funding.

Stanford is a key site for research and Aids Clinical Trials and people in Texas have been left with nothing in the northern end of the state.  There is nothing between Dallas and Houston, a distance of almost 350 miles.  This is not acceptable.

Anyone interested in helping me with fund raisers in the SF Bay Area or coordinating a national effort, please post and I will check my messages.
You can send me e-mail to my Yahoo account at the same handle.

Hiv patients need to organize quickly.  The most recent round of cuts is devasting.  There are many hiv patients that have serious drug resistance problems and ongoing clinical trials is their only hope.
