I Jogged Today
« on: September 08, 2011, 06:08:31 pm »
...and no, I wasn't being chased by a mugger. This was an intentional jog, for a half mile  ;D *please hold your applause till the end of the post*.

Actually it was less a "jog" and more of a continuous fast stumble. But nevertheless it was impressive. After all, 4 months ago I was sucking down a pack of Parliament Light 100's a day.

I was also cruised by this twinky latino in short-shorts on a vintage bicycle, kept riding by me and smiling. Of course I was grimacing from the pain in my side, which kinda put him off. Not only that but I was sure I would have vomitted on him If I tried to speak to him. Maybe he will be there saturday.

I treated myself to a Whataburger with bacon, cheese and jalapenos afterwards, with a large fry.

I am waiting for the endorphins to kick in. Sure could use a cig also.  :-*

No!! please say it isn't so...I love my sweat band, does that mean my Jane Fonda excersise videos are also out dated...I'm beginning to feel my best years are slowly fading away..~sigh~

BTW..well done on the jogging, and keep up the good work on giving up the smokes.

Half a mile!!?  LOL... You didn't even get to burn the calories on the slice of cheese on that nasty whaddaboigah.

Keep it going though, eventually you may run a marathon.

That image could be deconstructed using Orlando Patterson's theories of power and race.   Please explain why Fiddy is driving a white puppet?

Nah, I'm sure Philicia's just teasing ya.

Well -- I suspect that what Willy thought was "cruising" was really this young man looking concerned for grandma's well-being as she wheezed along on her jog....     or perhaps he just couldn't take his eyes off of the velour track suit.............    ;)

Now, now, in defense of our Wumpster, he has always had a derriere of delight.

I, for one, think congratulations are in order for the quitting of the dreadful tobacco habit.

And while we're at it  . . . wait a minute, you smoked Parliaments????? They were nasty even back when I smoked. UGH.

There are times, my dear sweaty Texan, I wonder about your tastes.  ;D

HUGS,

thank you my Dear Marky. Smooch :)

Ok here's the story bout the ciggy's. I used to smoke Camel Turkish Silvers until Parliaments came back into fashion in Austin about 7 years ago. They were all the rage and I actually quite liked them.

But several people have told me they remind them of Vantage. LOL. Does anyone remember Vantage?

Remember Lemon Twist? They were lemon menthol cigs. UGH.

I did used to smoke Alpine cigs when I had a cold.

I thought the "i'd rather fight that switch," brand was Lucky Strike?

I started out smoking Camel "straights", the non-filtered ones. I kept up with them unti lthey raised the price higher than the filtered ones.

I am very glad I quit, especially when I see the price people are paying today!

Did you run when you were in school?  Or is this a new thing?

So Mr. Wump

Did you run when you were in school?  Or is this a new thing?

I've found the yahoo "about.com running" series pretty helpful -- but that's as a rank beginner.

And the Galloway training stuff  http://www.nytimes.com/2009/06/02/health/02well.html

Good luck -- the longest journey begins with but a single cliche ... and all that

A

I never ran until about 10 years ago, then I was running about 2-3 miles every other day. I did this for a couple years and then kinda just stopped. I loved it then, I actually would run to relax, it is so true about the Endorphins. I would like to work my way back up to that level again, but its alot harder now. Of course I am now dealing with lungs that have been damaged from 10 years of smoking also.

I went 3/4 mile today. I know its not alot but I am getting my heart rate up to about 130ish for 20 or so minutes and then I crap out.  But I'll get there  ;)

Just got to this thread and with all that talk of muppets no one made a joke about the terrible things muppeteers do to muppets?  I'm really quite disappointed.

Edited to be palatable to the faint of heart.

This thread made me smile SO much

That's because you know Big Daddy's gonna be all cardio king when he comes and sweeps you off your feet and carries you into the sunset :)

@ Phil - Bite me baby.

Yes, I'm still running, but I've had the flu/cold for the last few days so the only running I've been doing is to the toilet. I'm sure the twinks miss me out on the greenbelt though 8)

The décor was the most disturbing part of that video.

What, doesn't everyone use the cardboard box their computer monitor came in for a bed-side table?

What I found even more disturbing is that he wore black knickers under those pink panty hose instead of pink or maybe white. And it should have been a thong. FAIL.

I don't know if I'd use the word "fab" for this song... it's a bit tacky sounding, no? Sounds like Qkumba Zoo on helium. Almost like they meant to be kitschy, but I'm not convinced that's the intent. Nuevo-Scandinavian pop can be a bit twee.

I think that in their attempt to be avant-garde they are intentionally kitschy.  I really love their song "Like a Pen."  They were also the first to record that lovely song "Heartbeats" that eventually became a decent hit for (Swedish-Argentine singer) José González.

Now... Qkumba Zoo!!!  Blast from the past, especially that ubiquitous remix by La Vasquez.

Keep er going Will.  I started biking and running this Spring and was embarrased by my lack of endurance.  Half a mile of riding would require a nap.  Half a mile run would require a long sleep.  Now I can ride 25 miles at one time with no problem and run 3 miles.  My goal was a 50 mile ride by Fall, but I had to change the year....lol  maybe next year.

Congrats, keep pushing and you'll make that marathon.

The "full marathon" bit was really just a joke, I have no desire to do one of those. ever. My immediate goal is to just make it down the greenbelt without all the gasping, coughing and farting.

Although I'm thinking about buying a bike.

I may have over done it today.

I jogged 1 mile down the greenbelt and then turned around and fast walked back, shortly after turning around I had 2 quick sharp pains in the center of my chest and then got real dizzy, so much so that I couldnt walk straight for a minute or so. It was so weird that I  actually thought about calling EMS from the trail but didnt and walked back to my car and drove home. and was out of it for half the day.

I feel fine now. But I wonder what it was, do any of you other joggers get dizzy? The chest pain could ahve been from my overworked nicotine plugged lungs.

I wonder if my Abacavir is trying to kill me?  ::)

I told her, she just said not to do it in the heat of the day, and to start slow. I guess I will go back to just walking until I see her again.

just weird that it would happen now and not when I first started weeks ago.

had you eaten properly? low blood sugar?
were you overheated? day too hot?
were you properly hydrated?
had you had enough sleep the previous night?
Had you extended the time or distance you were jogging?

any of those sort of things could have contributed to a "crash"
not to mention nicotine. nor age.

2 weeks of jogging doesn't mean a heart attack won't happen if your systems have already been stressed for years. It could actually push you into an attack.

When I started bicycling again a few years ago, it was like day 10 or something that I think I had pushed too far, too fast and thought I was going to keel over dead. Also, after drinking, dancing and hardly sleeping for several days, I thought day 4 of AMG2011 was going to find me dead in Underground Seattle. Lack of sleep, food, and water, along with bad habits (not to mention all the bad ol' HIV meds with bouts of PCP) and creeping up on 50 can be a dangerous mix. LOL  :D

You know, if it felt like a big enough deal that you are going to walk until you see her again, why not call her up and see if her office thinks you should come in?

Its probably nothing -- but if you are worried about it, trust your instincts now (and train them for next time).

Thx Ass,

I see her in 10 days, so I will bring it up to her then. Although I know what is going to happen, she is going to send me out for 2 months worth of tests. Everytime I fart wrong I have to go see a specialist, and jump through all these hoops. I hate getting old.
