CMIA vs. Nat - Am I infected?
« on: February 17, 2016, 01:39:45 pm »
Hi Guys,

hope you can help me... so lets see my story:

My gf was few days to test for HIV - the result was reactive at CMIA test, but negative at ECLIA, and Immunochromotography.
After the clinic made a NAT test too - that was negative too.

Question 1: NAT has shorter window period then CMIA, and is more accuracy, so can take this that CMIA was false positive? At clinic they say this, but anyway she need go back again.

Question 2: before this we got vaccin again rabies, can be this one reason for false positive? They did same test at me CMIA was negative.

Question 3: Eclia has the same window period as CMIA, or has longer, so can prove if CMIA was false positive?

Now we booth get cold (me fever, rainy noise, feel a bit pain at my legs).

Our risky behavior: we did HIV test before we started unprotected sex, but we had 3some sex too - there the guy used condom at vaginal sex. That happened 2.5 weeks ago, and exactly 14 days before my GF's CMIA test.

Anyway, i know I should go again to test myself, and my gf will do the same but this CMIA/ we booth get cold make me scarried, and dont know if that NAT should make to feel relaxed, or not. :D

Thanks.

Hi Wade,

hm, hard to say exactly about risks: hm, felatio at 3some at my girl side with no condom (but cum on her body, or/ and in the condom). Or, that guy few days/ weeks ago had small accident at one of his hands (hit fingers), and how to say - not used condom on his fingers (dont know if this can be risk or not).

About my girl privat life - I'm sure that she not had sex with other guy at last month, and before her test was OK.

Hm, if I think more carefully then maybe we not had really risks for HIV, but this CMIA reactive result made me to have worries.

HIV is transmitted through UNPROTECTED anal and vaginal intercourse.
If I am understanding the things you have described you have not had risk.

Hi Wade,

first thanks your reply. Read many topics at last days - congratulations to all admins.

Back to my questions - yes, this HIV test was just for my girls job (we had before start unprotected), and I also not saw not any risk - but CMIA reactive made to worry a bit. A question - if the guy had wound on his fingers, and that he used to fingering: not even this can be a risk?  Other question: a NAT negative can be more conclusive then a CMIA?

No other question now to waste your time, I also know that real answer (to me) will when go to have HIV test (here in my country they say that HIV DUO will be ok after 21 days).

Thanks

Hi

If the only issue was the no risks incidents described than you have not had a risk.
With regards to testing you can read more about testing here: HIV Testing Guidelines are to test at 6 weeks past any incident, and if i understand correctly you have had none and then at 13 weeks to confirm the result.

As for the false reactive result, the confirmation testing was negative and if no other risks happened you should expect this result to remain negative.
About the finger question, no it's not a risk not even in the slightest.

Here's what you need to know in order to avoid hiv infection:
You need to be using condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, every time, no exceptions until such time as you are in a securely monogamous relationship where you have both tested for all (STI's) sexually transmitted infections together.

If you are sexually active, it is highly recommended that you get a full sexual health check-up / screening at least annually including but not limited to hiv testing.

Remember that some sexual practices which may be described as ‘safe’ in terms of HIV transmission might still pose a risk for transmission of other STI's. So please do get fully tested regularly for all STI's including HIV and more frequently if unprotected intercourse occurs. Also note that it is possible to have an STI and show no signs or symptoms and the only way of knowing is by testing.

Finally use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, to avoid sexually transmitted hiv infection.

Kind regards

Jim
