Pregnant thoughts

Hi all
Am planning to have a child, actually if to have twines once and for all, as i dont want to go thru any pregnancy again, any help ladies? my cd count as today 360 and my vl 15,199, my partner being HIV-, I havent yet spoken to my doctor about it

Yasoza, I don't have any advice for you.  But, there are a couple HIV+ ladies on here who have had children since their diagnosis.  They'll probably chime in sooner or later.

Hi yasoza!  I had my daughter 12 years ago at a specialty clinic in San Francisco that only saw + women.  My TCells at that time were 89 and not quite sure what my viral load was but it was detectable.  I went on immediate AZT which I am not fond of but knew I had to take it, I also underwent monthly infusions of condensed human antibodies.  I knew in my heart from the beginning that my baby was going to be neg. and she was and still is ;0)  It's a very personal decision that I had little support for making but am very happy I had the strength to follow threw with.  Her father and I are no longer together but I will forever be thankful that he encouraged me to try and get pregnant and have a second child.

I would suggest doing an internet search for a Prenatal Aids Clinic in your area, there you will find the best care.  Good Luck

hi there, congratulations on your descision, my neg partner and I are also currently trying to concieve in the last months.

from what I know the doctors here (Netherlands) want you to be undetectable or as close as possible to that. maybe that's only during the birth though so there is still time to get there. I am wondering if you are on meds, if so they must be safe for pregnancy as well, Sustiva for example is prohibited from being take at pregnancy. also you should be taking folic acid at least a couple months before conception but that's a general recommendation for all women not just pozzies.

You were joking abou the twins right? Is there a way of getting twins?

hi yasoza - maybe artificial insemination would be the ideal way if u specifically want twins?

Yasoza: Are you on meds?...They want you to be u/d during child birth..you can def have a healthy baby..I have 3..one of which i was preg with when dg...I have also been thinking about getting my tubal ligation reversed (if thye do that with hiv pozzies) to conceive another baby ...Good luck!

It is definately better to be on my meds during pregnancy and undetectable.  Your baby will have to be on meds for 6 weeks/ 2x a day after birth.  You can not breast feed(cabbage leaves work wonders for your breasts) or save your placenta thingy.  I was supposed to have c-sections for both my pregnancies but my son came out too quick and I had him natural.  I was on bedrest for 45 days with my trip   lets, they were born at 29 wks with a c-section a little over 2 lbs and all are healthy.  Good Luck!

Wow, twins!  You are a better woman than me.  I am pregnant right now--due date is June 10, 2008.  The first order of business should be to try to get to undetectable with regards to your viral load.  The best way to get twins would be in vitro fertilization--that procedure increases the likleyhood of mulitiples, but conceiving them naturally requires luck.  i am not sure if they will just do in vitro on anyone or if you have to be infertile, I don't know about that.  I would also find a place that has experience in dealing with HIV+ pregnancies.  My OB is a 1 1/2 hour drive, but it is worth it (though my big fear is giving birth in the car on the way to the hospital) and the whole staff is very nice and supportive and they've dealt with cases like me before.  My local OB/gyn office didn't want to touch me with a 10 foot pole.  Anyway, I did have the option of scheduling a C-section, but C-sections are not manditory for positive women anymore--you can give birth vaginally.  I chose that vaginal route, though most people think I am crazy for that.  The baby will also be prophylactically treated and no breast feeding.

wow....Thank you ladies, I do really appriciate for your advice, I am currently on meds, sustiva and truvada, septrin to avoid any chest infection as when i started in january my cd count where 160 vl 83,000 and my May monitor was cd 360 and vl 15,200, i think i have to wait until my vl is undetectable, then i will have a good word with my GP. I held here in UK  you have to be u/d to concerve, i have to do alot of homework over that! once again thank you girls

The best person or people to tallk to would be the people at your GUM clinic rather than your GP. I also live in the UK and I have had two healthy babies since discoveriing I was positive. I am pregnant with my third. Your Dr will advise you the best time to start trying and will probably take you off sustiva.

I'm 29 weeks and due July 29.  I was undetectable b4 I conceived.  My husband is negative.  My meds are Kaletra and Truvada and I didn't have to change a thing once I got pregnant.  We conceived naturally because my husband was comfortable with that.  I have remained undetectable and if you are undetectable at your birthing time vaginal birth is just as safe.  I will be getting an IV of AZT during my labor and of course, my little has to get AZT for 6 weeks.  My pregnancy has been very healthy and I totally wish you luck.  Get that VL down to undetectable and you'll be on your way and see if you can change your Sustiva drug because that is contraindicated against pregnancy.
