periods / menstruation

Hi Ladies, i was wondering if anyone had any changes in their periods?  This is the 2nd month on meds and im pretty newly DX - my 1st month i was right now time. The 2nd month now i am 23 days late....and there is NO chance of pregnancy as my husband left us months ago. Im on Triumeq

Hi Pittgurl.

I had no changes to my cycle due to Triumeq.   Has there been any other changes?
As well, could be stress or hormone fluctuations.  Have you asked your doctor to take some blood work and see if there are hormonal changes?

chwhyoche - hmmmm other changes? My hair has been coming out alot at the follicle - I saw a dermatologist and he feels it is stress related. I also saw GYN and he think maaayyyybeee perimenopausal.....Thyroid was checked and all is ok - and all other bloodwork that is normally done was ok too.

Pittgurl, your doctors will most likely not tell you this, but having HIV can cause early menopause.  I'm 50, started going through it a couple years ago and my periods are very messed up. Since it's been a couple years, they're almost done. My best friend (who is not positive) has been through menopause and her doctor told her once you have no periods for a year, then menopause is done.

I do know stress causes many, many things.  You can also have your doctor do a lab test called FSH (follicule stimulating hormone) to tell if you truly are going into menopause. But don't forget about the stress and do what you can to greatly reduce it in your life.

Since you're newly diagnosed I would imagine you're still going through acceptance and anger.  I've been diagnosed for 26 years and it took me a while before I was able to be semi-ok with my diagnosis.  So, be gentle and give yourself a break.

Betty - NO you are right   :-\ :( >:( My dr didn't tell me having this would put me in early menopause  :( That sucks!!!

I'm trying my best to reduce stress - it's not easy though. I'm still very sad and upset and angry about this. I hurt very deep in my heart from betrayal.

I think hair loss can come as well with the high VL and low tcells.  Although yours were not especially low.   Mine got as low as 35.   Did you have yeast symptoms?   This could show up orally, vaginally or just an overall itchy feeling or discomfort.   Yeast can cause hair loss.   You will get stronger and your hair will get healthier as your system beats off the hiv and pathogens such as yeast.   My hair fell out and thinned a lot, but now it is thick and healthy again.   
My periods are pretty consistent, but I did a STUPID thing on a whim and had botox on my forehead wrinkles.  That halted my period for 2 weeks.   So there are a lot of factors that come into play.  But the next month, it came right on schedule. 
Perhaps the HIV meds reduce estrogen levels.  I'm not sure.  But I drink fenugreek tea (boiled water from the seeds) and I eat organic tofu.     Try incorporating foods that mimic or promote estrogen.     
Try not to stress, as that definitely messes with our bodies.

chwhyoche - thanks for your response. As i think back i didn't have yeast symptoms per-se BUT i was itchy on my feet and hands, had some skin peeling on my feet prob around seroconversion in June/July but nothing vaginally or orally.

Please let me encourage you ladies to talk to your doctor or pharmacist about supplements, herbs etc.  There are some that can interact with HIV meds.  Thanks.

Yes i agree - i kinda wanted to know how i would feel the 1st few month of medication without adding anything extra in. Still not too comfortable but I did just add in a multi-vitamin that i take at dinner since i take the Triumeq in the morning. I also take 2 mouth sprays of B-12.

Does the triumeq nauseate you taking it in the morning?   
I always take my meds right before med to sleep through any nausea.
Though i do get up and pee a few times from the water.   :P

Nope no nausea  - ive had it with and without food and nothing.  I dont take it at night bc I have a mental block about medication and alcohol. SOmetimes i want to enjoy a glass of wine or a beer and i cant if i knew i just took a pill or will need too.  :)
