Title: Ohh Lawdy, where's my Mint Julep?
Post by: WillyWump on June 26, 2012, 06:41:02 pm
I was out a bit ago and It's so difficult to breathe, it's like trying to breathe in an oven. \

My balls are sticking to my legs and my anti-wrinkle cream is melting and running into my eyes. Not pretty.

These arent even the highs..Austin checked in at 109, SA at 107.

Hotter n a $2 pistol.

If I see one more photo on facebook of a temperature gauge or thermometer, I'm going to scream.  It's summer.  It's Texas.  It's hot.  You'd think these people never have seen this before.

This explains the low amount of rentboy listings mentioned earlier in another thread.

I suppose it's safe to assume that this forum will never hold its annual AMG anywhere in Texas. I pass out when it gets above 90F and just stay indoors.

ps: it's currently 78℉ here

What a bunch of wimps down there in Texas.  You live in the south, grow a pair!!

It's supposed to be 101 in Richmond on Saturday (and I'm sure we will have far more humidity than you get in Texas, so it will "feel" even hotter)
I'm going to head down to Busch Gardens in Williamsburg for the day.  Nothing like some rollercoasters to take the edge off the heat!

Wump's "pair" appears to be part of the issue, though I wonder how his testosterone injections are affecting his "pair".  Reference his statement above:

Nobody lives way up on Gornegrat.  Just some hot hikers.   8)

We get unusual heat waves in the last 10 years, too. There was an awful one about 10 years ago in fact, but by chance I happily spent the summer working in London where it was NOT sweltering, in fact perfectly lovely.

In the long term, "they" say in fact Europe will get colder if the rest of the world gets hotter and the Gulf Stream goes wacko.

I remember saving my pennies to buy an air conditioner for my apartment in Brooklyn.  New York summers have always been sweltering.  That air conditioner was too small and the electricity bill was gonna be high no matter what. In the dog days, It only cooled the lower 5 - 6 feet of the apartment! It was surreal.  Had to sleep on the floor.

Used to deal in my 20's with the soupy summers without air conditioning. I liked the heat and found it sensual.

Well then you get older and just can't deal anymore.

My partner called me in a panic because our 2nd story thermostat is set to 73 degrees and the upstairs temperature was 79. We had the air conditioner serviced in April so he was convinced the unit was broken and we would be spending several thousand dollars having the system replaced. I told him it was 102 degrees outside and maybe it just couldn't keep up. The air conditioner repair guy was at the house within an hour and confirmed my suspicions-- the air conditioning ducts in our attic have insufficient insulation and the unit can't keep the upper floor at 73 degrees when it is over 100 degrees outside.

::) you queers need to learn how to rough it, you can survive without an air-conditioning, it will probably be a lot cheaper on your Electric-Bill, all we have is a swamp-cooler, that seems to work well  ;)

I'm sure the 1.2 million without power right now in the DC area, due to 80mph wind/thunderstorm around 10 PM, appreciate your concern today Dennis, considering how it's going back to 100F today. This would also include my elderly parents, though their power fortunately came back on an hour ago.

I'm sorry you are having this problem but so glad you posted this . My bedroom seems to be hotter than any room in the house so I went and bought a bit more insulation to put in the attic over my bedroom .

After reading your post it hit me that I noticed all of my duct work in the attic is below the insulation but for some reason the ducts to my bedroom were run above it . I'm going to have to go up there tonight when it cools off and cover them with insulation . Thanks Ford !

Now it's up to 3 million without power, and 9 dead in the entire Mid-Atlantic region. State of Emergency called in Virginia.

Here on the Rock they're only giving highs of 58 14.4C and 59 15C (http://www.weather.com/weather/tenday/54.236107,-4.548056) for at least the next ten days. Lows of 50 10C (tonight), to 53 11.6C or 54 12.2C through the rest of the week. We had a few days in the low 70s a couple weeks ago and that's probably it for summer for us.  :-\

That's terrible news about the storms in the eastern states. Just heard about it on BBC Radio 2 a little while ago. They've been having massive flooding in parts of England, but it's just cold and windy here with rain every day, but not flood-worthy rain. Well, apart from a week ago friday. My front garden was a mini lake.

Ah, and to make it worse I'm now reading there's a high likelihood of similar weather pattern in the Mid-Atlantic for this evening, stretching from Virginia to just south of me, winds in excess of 55 mph.

Evidently these are called "derechos" or land hurricanes. Never heard of that.

http://www.accuweather.com/en/weather-news/deadly-super-derecho-strikes-m/67383

I barely missed being in the effected area where I live. Some place in southern New Jersey and hour from me had a 81 mph wind gust last night.

If my power went out right now I'd be screwed since I'm still using a cane post-foot surgery and basically housebound.

Just finished listening to this on Local radio Miss P, the world's weather is going mad, summer was always a time everyone looked forward to.

I've been complaining about the cold here, but all I have to do is put on another layer and I'm comfortable again, it's extremely hard to get away from temps of 100+ with no power.

I Hope power is restored soon.

I sure hope the east coast folks are getting the power back on quickly . Its 103 here today and supposed to go higher and the humidity is up as well .

I'm house bound and bored due to the heat the last few days so that's why I'm crapping in every damn thread on the forum . My dog wont even go outside , she useally follows me out to the patio when I go for a smoke but today she only lays in the floor and sticks her cute bulldog head out the pet door to watch .

The weather here in Virginia has been awful.  I have been very lucky -- have kept my electricity through it all.  That Derecho that swept through on Friday night really was something -- I was sure the big pin oak in my from yard was going to fall down it was bent over so badly.  In the end though, no real damage -- lots of tree limbs in my yard, had to fish one patio umbrella out of the bottom of the pool and another one was blown to bits (mind you, both umbrellas were closed when the storms hit).  Many others are much worse than I, so am thankful.  How anyone could be dealing with the temps this weekend without A/C is beyond me.  I have no idea how I did it as a kid.

88 here in Miami - but a hot 88...
The sun is beaming - --- A/C has been running the whole day.
I truly feel for those up North in these unbearable temperatures and with no A/C and/or no electric.

Hopefully, they are finding somewhere cool to spend the day and evening and the heatwave will break soon enough.

been 101 here in ABQ for the last week or so, now it's cool balmy 87 outside,

a lot better than that horrid 101 in the shade, and with the swamp-cooler

makes it a nice 71 in the house.............life is so good  :)

I talked to my friend Tina in Fredericksburg earlier. They were without electricity only for a short while, but she says some neighborhoods on the north side of the Rappahanok(sp?) are still without. I feel horrible for those people.

Sorry I didn't read this post earlier.  Ohio was knocked off guard and it looks like a war zone went through and help from other states have been laboring tirelessly to try to restore power.  It's only a small part of the Lake area that has power, and we're lucky we were first.  Gonna be over a week for a lot of my rural family.

Ironic that I got a new chainsaw for birthday Friday.   Already using the hell out of it.

Licking County Ohio was one of the hardest hit in our state (which is where Buckeye Lake is).  We still have outages everywhere and they're reporting it could be another week before it's fixed.

After a little research, I discovered why we were lucky enough to have our power within 2 days.  We are connected to the same lines that feed the water processing station.  It is critical that these lines be fixed first to at least restore water to residents.  It's just a small area that has power and we've opened our home to allow people to shower, cool off or whatever we can to assist.

We still have some main roads that haven't been opened because of extensive damage and debris.  These situations bring out the best in people.  Most are jumping in doing whatever they can to assist neighbors and sometimes total strangers.

My brother manages the local VFW that regained it's power.  They have a huge ice maker and our giving it out free to those who need it.  They have opened to the public as a cooling station where they can also get something to eat.

another +96F four day heatwave begins today: 96, 96, 96, 101... so out of control. (worse in DC: 98, 97, 99, 104)

That will be a total of eleven days in a row where it was +91℉ unheard of in the Northeast.

However, I have endured winter where it didn't get above 32℉ for three weeks.

I'd like to revisit the fact that the 5-day forecast for Yankee-Central, Killadelphia, is immeasurably worse that what I nee on NOAA for San Antonio. And as that quack of an OP began this thread I'd like to kindly suggest that he bow out the remainder of the week. thankuverymuch

It's always nice to see that the UK is absolutely just as looney as Mississippi (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/1556131/Floods-are-judgment-on-society-say-bishops.html).

DISCUSS!

NEVAH!

btw, was in Temple. Tx last few days and they had a similiar storm roll through last night. It knocked out the water treatment facility, and the mayor declared a "disaster". Meaning there was no water to fight fires, etc..No restaraunts were allowed to open this morning (which sucked for my planned Mcdonalds Flapjack run). and only convenience stores and grocery stores were allowed to open. All of the VFD's had to bring their tankers full of water into the city and place them at different city firestations just in case there was a fire.

Other than that, no, we have not been very , hot. It's been slightly cooler than normal. It seems like everything has changed and the hotter weather has moved northeast.

You're actually comparing a town of 60,000 to a metropolitan area of 5.58 million in terms of a giant storm?

I just talked to my "sissy" Tina in Fredericksburg Va, They had a Tornado blow through and rip up a Dance studio and several other building there. Her house had some shingles torn off and a tree down on the dog pen. Seems I may be helping John with repairs around the house when I get there after AMG  ???

We used to call that place "Fred Vegas" when I was in college, because when you drive up I-95 from the south you see that strip of large, lighted signs and it looks like a sorry version of Las Vegas at night.

It only took AEP 11 days to restore all the power to our county.  This is quite remarkable considering the extensive damage here in central and southeastern Ohio.

These storms were so destructive that the Ravenswood bridge had to be closed due to twisted beams.  All we lost were shingles and some trees so I'll not complain.
