When did Winter start occurring on December first instead of the solstice? ;)

I am with Wolfe on this one , this is my fave time of year .
Just to make you all feel better, it's -3C in Montreal. That's just below freezing for all you metrically challenged folks. 8)

Yes, but half of Montreal is underground, isn't it? Do you use the "underground city" a lot? I haven't been to Montreal in ages and need to come visit. I've always gotten along with most Canadians I've known -- many used to jaunt down to NYC from Montreal and Toronto for clubbing, though both cities have great clubs on their own.
It is SO cold here, 37 right now on my front porch! I need to go find my fave winter comforter and get my nest all ready for tonight ;D

Was it a plaid early American couch that smelled like the family?
my Nana didn't crochet - she made those ceramic ladies that you put fake ivy in their hats.
ahh yes, we had one of those rich families down the road. The kids weren't allowed to play with us dirty unwashed people
I would have been your friend if you had the government cheese

If I couldn't invite you for dinner I would have stolen a pack of Salems from my Dad's drugstore. We could have smoked them together up by the railroad tracks.
Edited to add: my bad, I thought you said Pedicure.
WINTER STORM WARNING 30 miles north of us starting tomorrow!!!!
Mitchellina, can you fly down with your shovels and show us how its done?
PLEASE NOTE: MARSHMALLOWS IN HOT COCOA ARE FOR THE WEAK!
Yes a possum hisses big time. Raspy.
I spent an afternoon with a Falconer and his I think Sparrow Hawk , the hunting display was a privilege to watch. The bird who he had raised from a chick flew free for a couple off hours after the training bit was over , out off sight to me , however he said it would return when it was ready and it did , they clearly had established a co relationship. the bird made itself comfortable in an inside pocket off his wax jacket.
PLEASE NOTE: Tonight's low in East Haddam will be 13F/-10CBrrr...
It was 27 here when I woke at 5 this morning and only 36 here right now . I have the pain thing going on and this is not helping at all .
I have a dentist appointment at 8 in the morning
Send us that rain from TX if you guys would...

Sleet pellets reported in Northwest Bexar County (san antonio)
Panic has gripped the city!
I have started a pot of coffee AND put on my thermal socks.

Geez Jeff, you are a glutton for punishment! Dentist at 8? Hell no! No one gets in my mouth at 8 in the morning...well no dentist at least.yes.

Dr.Pepper porch thermometer :-Xand yes.
And I never signed up for 8AM classes in college, much less any medical appointment. I won't do appointments until 1PM earliest.

Is your flat screen TV above the mantel piece? What would Martha think?Who cares? :)
Well....I always thought you were the Martha Stewart of Connecticut, and then you roll this contraption out. I'm dissapointed. Did you jsut not finish the top shelf yet?I suppose I could have put a nativity scene (yes, I have one) on top of the snowman scene but it just would have been too much. MS sucks. We Connecticut folks forced MS out of our state. :)
I like the cart all by itself .Me too. Great design. Something that Wumperella can't grasp or has nightmares over.
I should put my aluminum 3 ft. Christmas tree on top of my stainless steel rolling cart from Bellevue Mental Hospital.

Mitch,Funny how simple things like a bottle-brush tree can evoke memories. I bent them on purpose to remind myself of the great and powerful wisdom and humor of Dr. Seuss.
Your wavy Fir trees bought back a joyous memory from my late teens, involving good friends an empty mansion, crisp winter weather and Lyseric Acid Diethylamide.
Happy nights.

How's this.....
I'll finish the cart if you finish your haircut. Deal? :)
Do you have the light fixture at the base that makes the tree change colors?

I'm thinking of doing something very nontraditional this year for a tree. Going into the woods and cutting down a scrubby deciduous tree with lateral branches. Wrapping them like a city tree in colored lights. It could be a total disaster but I'm going for it!
Wonder if it will sprout tips of green with water and warm temp. I doubt it but it would be an added bonus. :)
Willy , get a haircut ... and Mitch , take that Christmas shit off the bottom shelf and put it up top for gods sake . I'm joking of course but its still all good advice .I'm a bottom kinda guy. Wumpy must be a top. :)

36 here in Gods Country! Going to 56!
Perfect weather for a Texas Thanksgiving dinner and then DALLAS COWBOYS FOOTBALL this afternoon.
I remember being in Texas with those types of temperatures - and a Texas cold feels much colder than the cold air from up North... IMHO... I was freezing my nuggy nuggy nuts off when I was there (that was Dallas)... If you happen to hear of anyone finding a set of nuts could you please have them returned to me?
I always forget that the Earth is actually closer to the sun in dead of winter-- well, the northern hemisphere dead of winter.

Habersham you live in a town that is in my top 5 places I want to visit .
Did you move there or is it your Family home ?
Theyer I grew up in the coal mining region in Northeast Pennsylvania. Near Pottsville where they make Yuengling beer. I spent most of my life in Philadelphia and moved here a few years ago
Tourists from the UK love Savannah. It is in an unique climate which is responsible for the live oaks with the dripping moss. It is the only European style city which survived the American Civil War.
Since it is in the 90s for months on end in the Summer we shiver here when it gets in the 60s. If you look at a map of the states we are in the "Georgia Bite" north of Florida. It's a maritime climate so about 0 centigrade is a low as it gets here.
All I know is it was 86degrees here today, which of course required a margarita...

My idea of a "european city" I guess is mainly one that is walkable but lot's of other factors come into play. Boston or Philly first......Savannah and Philadelphia are a grid though. But Savannah has 24 squares so in some way it's like an Italian city. Of coures Atlanta and LA are NOT like european cities. And I'm ignoring Charleston.
OHMYGOD!
a Winter Weather Advisory just issued for San Antonio! Impending freezing drizzle!
Chaos has gripped the city!

Did anyone see the Philadelphia /Detroit football game today? That snow was crazy.
I hope Miss P isn't buried in a snow drift
He will make artisanal snow cream with fresh foo foo nectar from the artisanal nectar foo foo food store mere blacks away if that happens so don't worry .
I hope he was able to create some sort of designer snow shoe (maybe out of a tennis racket) for that bum foot.

URGENT! NOAA has just formally issued a Winter Weather Warning (http://forecast.weather.gov/showsigwx.php?warnzone=PAZ071&warncounty=PAC101&firewxzone=PAZ071&local_place1=4+Miles+NE+Philadelphia+PA&product1=Winter+Storm+Warning#.UqY15JGcEhs) from 6AM Tuesday until 5PM for snow accumulations of a further 3 to 5 inches.
PRAISE!
edit: the GFS model says 6-8" for Philly
Shouldn't anything vintage have signs of use???? :) Or did you never actually wear them in the snow, but instead as a fashion statement?
Can you stop the cackling and make us southerners a snowman already...preferably one with a large penis.
#9 goes out to my dear friend MissP
http://yestotexas.com/10-reasons-texans-hate-cold-weather/
I hope he's on the wing.
That state is seriously full of morons.
Speaking of Texas, did you hear Sen. Cruz is on Air Force One at this very moment with the Obamas flying to Mandela's funeral? I hope he's not forced to sit in the back like Clinton did to Newt which ended up in a government shutdown because he had hurty feelings.
Miss P's bulls-eye zone has seen 4" - 8 " many a times I bet .
THAT bulls-eye zone has been bulls-eyed to death ;D
NOAA Current conditions: Heavy Snow Fog 34F/1C, 3-7 inches possible
ps: I prefer 9 inches or above! Anything smaller hurts because it bangs up the sides of the tunnel.
I just went through the stop at Harpers Ferry.
Meanwhile Texas is getting dicked.
Oh! This is where I plan on having my ashes spread when I finally croak from teh AIDS. Gorgeous place, isn't it?
As my friends would indicate - "I get around"
With my job I travel all over and this week is to Wilmington. Usually take the train one way and then deal with the uncivilized airports and all that required disrobing, bellowing and groping for the return trip. Los Angeles, Oakland, Seattle, Portland, Kansas City, St. Louis, New Orleans, Fort Worth, Wilmington are the requisites that I have to do at least 2-3 times a year for each. My next venture is to Seattle (hopefully in two weeks) with a quick trek up to Vancouver - there is no city (IMO) more interesting than Vancouver with the exception of NOL on a good night!
I was astounded when I first went to Vancouver that instead of the nasty pidgeons (sky-rats) that we have in most of our cities....they have geese! They were everywhere!
Tedderz, post some pics of your dog Charlie, preferably with a Christmas sweater on ;)
PS- I miss Sebastian the Bear, especially during Christmas when he wears his ornament and Tinsel. I wonder how Growler is?
Going to rain in Richmond tomorrow.... I don't miss those northern winters too much at all.
I'm not sure that I would enjoy living somewhere that lacked definitive seasons.
::)
So I take it San Juan is not an option? lol. :)
No, I just meant Fellatio's logic about tropical seasons doesn't compute for a Northerner. It used to be the same for me - until my body acclimated to this weather.
It's a little known fact that the mountains in the Dominican Republic (where I'd prefer to retire due to larger cock sizes and lengthier foreskins)
We have plenty of Domincans here - In fact, my barber and all of the barbers at the shop are Dominican...
I will have take you there for a cut of the uncut when you come down this way....
But still, our total Latino population is only around 12%.
Dominican residents is 2.36% of the city's population
Official reading: 0.3" snow accumulation at PHL
NOAA Alert #2: severe ice storm advisory extended from 7PM to 9PM and now until midnight.
Which is about the same figure for Philadelphia, and since our city population is about four times that of Miami we have four times the amount of Dominicans.
Thanks for playing though. Do you have that PhD yet?
Don't look now but there's another snowstorm coming on Tuesday: anywhere from 1-6" but I'm on the southern border and won't get more than an inch. Boston is the target this time.crap. :(
http://quickfacts.census.gov/qfd/states/12/12086.html
Actually, according to U.S. Census:
Philadelphia County population (2010) = 1,547,607
Miami-Dade County population (2010) = 2,591,035
So, according to my humble calculations, we would have almost a million more people than Philadelphia County... Of course, your city is bigger than our city
Philadelphia = 1,547,607
Miami (city) = 413,892
But, your county is only made up of one city... Our county is made up of around 20 cities or more... And, our Dominicans are located throughout the county...
Thanks for trying...
Please try again...
BTW, have you ever watched Raising Victor Vargas? http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0316188/
Great movie.
And it's not a Ph.D. - it's an MBA ;D
Although, if I keep getting my population figures right, I just may go for the Ph.D.
coterminous
But like I said, Mr. MBA, you clearly stated "city" so I clearly compared city to city. Someone seeking an advanced degree should learn to state their case in a concise manner.
I see a surfeit of tchotchkes and a bottle of raltegravir. What a life! The tchotchkes are mostly gifts and I guess the same could be said for the raltegravir. Yup. What a life. :)

How horrible.
My grandmother's home had proper wainscoting, glass french doors with crystal knobs for the dining room.........
I've only seen that done in the South Bronx with leased furniture.
Goodness no! Gran Gran was a devout Southern Baptist and alcohol was not allowed in the house
Her formal dining room was almost as bad. Since it was almost forbidden, my mother inherited a beautiful cherry set that still looked show room new.

Going to 75 degrees In the next couple of days!
I love this time of year...the yanks are crying about the cold and I'm sippin' iced tea in my shorts on the porch. 8)
Well, we've gotten about 8" since last week, with another 1-2" expected tonight.
I see a bronze pharmacy lamp from Restoration Hardware
We only got up to 79 today and the temperature has already fallen to 75 degrees. It is supposed to drop to 61 this evening. I am hoping that I will be able to make it through the evening without shivering too much.I would suggest long underwear, wool socks, and a hot toddy.
The local weather man just stated on the evening news that we have had a total of 23.3" of snow so far this year, compared to 1.9" at this time last year.Wow Betty! You got hit early and often. Grand total here, measured by me (via my eye and my memory :-\) has been about 10".
Do you have to shovel Bettina or does someone else do it?

I used to shovel. There's a new tenant in the back apartment that has been doing it.

Yes - Philadelphia is growing. In particular "East Passyunk".

Where in the Bluegrass are you visiting?
Its my best friends sister , I think its Corban .
Corbin, KY. Thats about 2 hours from here off I-75. Colonel Sanders birthplace. Beautiful area in the mountains. Well, hills. Not sure you're technically in the mountains there. It was some of the best fall color I've ever seen.
It feels like summer here right now .
It's been in the mid 70's here for days...should I start my planting?
It is 53 right now in Shit Antonio so stop the internet lies; it is 15 degrees warmer in Philadelphia.
shouldnt you be walking a dog right now intead of trolling the interwebz?
Hilo departed with my brother at 7AM thankuverymuch
So now what is the family going to do to get you out of the house and away from them? Maybe they will give you a kite to play with.
Oh I'll just hole up in the bathroom with the Frankfurt iPad and those 6 porn clips I put on it a few days ago with Cameron my new fave at seancody.dot.com

Still, my eye teeth for a houseboy with a shovel.
I bet they suddenly upgrade totals tomorrow morning.I'll stick with my 8".
Our predicted temp for next Wednesday is 0F, with overnight low of -13F. We've gotten about 9" of snow thus far, and it's still snowing. The weatherman said on the news that so far we've had about 32" of snow this season.
I just read on huff post that the difference between the hottest place in America ( Key west) and the coldest place in America ( international falls Minnesota) was 115 degree difference.
You will be getting 4", I will be getting 8". *
I'm going with 7" for me and a big fat foot for you to shovel, Miss Priss.

I think they should raise the sign up a bit and seal up around the car and keep it as an advertisement .
UPDATE, 9 AM: Philadelphia's "Airport" tally was 9" officially. Way over what was predicted!
I can attest to this after my aching back from shoveling just now :( Time for some prescription strength ibuprofen.
We got about 6". Kenny is going to pick up Jesse (hottie employee) to do the snow blowing. ;)
Too bad Miss P. is out in the bitter cold alone with her designer ski panties and hot pink shovel. So sad. :'(
I was about to tell you not to lie about your snow amounts because I found a great interactive map:

I complained to Betty yesterday that it was 45 here and she practically told me to go fuck myself .
Lol. That's alright, I know you Southerners are delicate flowers.
Click link in my post above to see this area's 7-day forecast.
I just went out and did two buckets worth of this solution -- it worked in the areas where I'd put down salt (weather channel said salt doesn't work well when it's colder than low 30's) but on the sidewalk by the street where I'd not put down salt because I'd run out this solution just froze up so now it's a bit slippery.
Not sure what to do now. I'm not going out for any salt today plus I'm sure every place is sold out.
Yall sound like a gaggle of senior citizens watching the weather channel and planning to go out lord willing and weather permitting .
LMAO! ++++
and MissP is the crotchetty old man who goes out and checks the snow gauge every morning and fist pumps the air and yells at the "young whippersnappers" for messing up his shovelling
the only thing that pic is missing is her spritz bottle of her magical solution.

They are giving us snow Sunday night too .
Gonna be hard for the South to rise again when they're frozen with broken pipes.

Oh, it fell during Sherman's March and they've never recovered except to continuously whine about being raped and pillaged for the past 150 years.
That's why, when it gets that cold, people need to keep a trickle going out of their faucets. So the pipes won't freeze. My brother did that all the time when he owned property in Alabama.

Oh, and reply 371.... ::)
Our temperatures are actually going up overnight from 35F currently to 52F at 5AM. Then the cold front arrives at noon and we plummet to 7F within twenty hours. That's crazy...
That's crazy...
bunch of Winter Wimps all of ya
BUT HEY IT'S JUST WINTER FOLKS SO SUCK IT UP -- NOTHING ABNORMAL GOING ON HERE!
That reminds me, I need to go to the supermarket tomorrow morning before it gets really cold. I only have 2 eggs left and a few slices of bread. Oh, and of course, one half a wheel of Uplands Rush Creek Reserve, a sort of highly regarded domestic Vacherin Mont d'Or.
Its so silly . Im watching the news and they are showing the store shelves at wall mart . There is not one bag of bread left in the store as well as milk .
We are going to see the coldest weather in decades and a few snow flurries but nothing to warrant a run on staples . The news crews are outdoors doing live broadcast about how a little drizzle may make a few puddles freeze . Its cracking me up .
Update .... they are now reporting school and business closings .
Same here. Bread is gone from stores. I could go without bread for several days, not to mention one or two. I laughed when the reporter said, "All 1% milk is gone." Dear lord! I just kept thinking of people refusing to drink 2% or skim, and leaving the store without.
ps: our maximum wind chill low during all of this will be -20°F... But Betty's will be -55°F so I guess I'll just shut up.
Betty, they're forecasting -40 windchill today in our areas. My truck barely cranked a few hours ago and doubt it would now. I've seen several vehicles with tarps over them. Nothing like Midwestern ingenuity ;D
You all have a great day and stay safe and warm. My time to relax.
Wolfie
Just got done shoveling from my porch back to my car (it's a semi-circle from the front of my apartment back to the driveway, (probably 50 or 60 feet), very heavy, wet sno. And my car started, yay! I cleared over a foot of snow from the vehicle, cleaned up the path I shoveled, and came back inside. Now this is an example of why I should not be smoking (tired from lifting heavy snow).
Betty ... You be careful doing all that with you knee pain and all . Just concerned .
Oh Betty, you know those Confederates don't let their pets in the house. They be too mangy.
ps: still only 47F here!
Believer it or not the high temperature for the North Pole will be +27F this afternoon.
http://www.weather.com/weather/today/North+Pole+AK+USAK0173:1:US
Can that be right?
It's currently colder in Temple, Texas (18), than it is in central Maine (48).
24 in SA.
We're still holding at 39F! GO EAGLES!
@Betty Don't you have a snowblower? My dad does but I don't like it so I shoveled the driveway friday. Now on monday after 2 days of rain there is hardly any snow left.
http://www.wndu.com/weather
I don't want to read any bitching from anyone who lives with temps above 20F (and no snow)!
Dearest Ray,
Betty is going to form a posse and I will join. ^ :)
You better not !! ;D That's elderly abuse ,.... What are you going to do, throw a snowball at me ? LOL :)
Ray
Its colder than ? You guys fill in the rest .
I'm happy to report that our locals all cared for their animals. I made 2 different walks to verify it. I found a neighbor's frozen dog during the blizzard of 78. As a pre-teen, it make a profound on my compassion for animals. Had I seen any animal trapped by a chain, I'd have released it and given it at least an opportunity.
Even wolfie was cold on his last outing so I realize it must be horribly cold. I watched survivalist discuss how to survive in these conditions when you're stuck on a mountain. One actually made sense. If your hands get stiff and sore from the cold, take off your gloves and slip your hands in your pants. Our manly areas produces enough heat to defrost and is the perfect perpetual heat producer.
Even cold weather breeds need protected from this cold. Being in an unheated garage doesn't amount to much. I've had many people posting horrid pics on FB of frozen animals and I can't view them.
Yes!^^ Why do people do this? Just a "make sure animals are taken in," without those horrible pictures would suffice. I can't look at them either, Greg.I can watch when some idiot gets their ass shot on the news but when it comes to the SPCA commercials I have to look away.
And Ray, just be prepared. When you least expect it, expect it. :D
Wumpy texted me that this all proves global climate change is a giant hoax. He's such a smart guy and I'm so happy that he's my friend.

Sorry to hear about your mother, Greg.
thanks, I didn't mean to change the tone of this thread. ;)

Honey, they were able to watch that episode four months ago
If they mentioned it I forgot. ???
I thought it was common knowledge amongst US aficionados of the show that the UK is an episode ahead all of the time.
I thought it was common knowledge amongst US aficionados of the show that the UK is an episode ahead all of the time.
do YOU watch it or are you wrapped up too much with your Kardashian reruns?
For awhile they were a season ahead meaning a year, but now I think its about 6 months delay until broadcast in US?
Philly broke the same record with 4 degrees -- that means a record for that day not all time low, same for NYC.
Philadelphia's all time record low is -11F set on Feb 9, 1934 per stormfax.com
http://www.stormfax.com/phlminmax2.html
I'm sure you can find NYC's on there as well -- it's only 90 miles away so there won't be much difference. For both cities once you go 50-60 miles further inland from the coast the temperatures are much lower always, so yes being close to the ocean influences both cities weather. The Midwest will always be colder.
edit: NYC's all time low was also on that same date I posted above, but was −15 °F; the lowest recorded temperature for Louisville, KY was −22 °F on January 19, 1994
PS- just wondered if my British friends watch it. Ann (well, you are kinda a brit I think?), Theyer, Britchick?
If you go to www.usa.com and enter your location and then click the weather tab you can obtain a lot of information. Philly averages ~20" of snow each year (which really is less than most people outside of the area think) with only 13 days where the depth of snow exceeds 1 inch. Though it's twice as bad as what Louisville, KY shows.
Compared with Betty (I used South Bend figures) ~60 inches of snow on average with 56 days exceeding 1 inch. Not as bad as Buffalo but worse than Rochester, NY and those are known as bad winter places for snow (lake effect, etc.). Not sure how Betty puts up with this every year :(
The snow issue with New England and the Mid-Atlantic is we can get several types of storms in the winter. There are "Miller A" and "Miller B" storms both of which travel up the coast -- I think the B ones involve a secondary low which spins counter clockwise, pulls in massive moisture from the ocean, and then just dumps it on the coastal areas which make for our large blizzards. But those are hit and miss -- some years we might have several and others none.
Obviously Minneapolis doesn't have an ocean near it so everything is different there.
Minnesota winters suck.
Amen. The only difference between Wisconsin and 'that state' is that we don't sound like the folks in the movie 'Fargo'. They say we do, but I don't hear it.
I got to work from home the last three days since the trains aren't running....or if there are trains, there is no certainty that I'd get BACK home. Tomorrow they run so it's back to work. The car finally started after keeping the battery inside overnight. The unclaimed alley cat that's been wandering around I shoved in the lawn mower shed with an old blanket, food and water. It must be 'warm enough for him/her now since he or she is screaming to get out. Things are getting back to normal.
That was included specifically for you! I thought you'd pick up on the continued rivalry. We have long since given up on IOWA ( I Owe The World an Apology). We consider it a break-away province.
And, Ann.....according to you're avatar......YOURE POPULAR!!
I love puppy breath .
Didn't bother even looking at the temp today. Spent another 2 hours on hold with Anthem so I could get my prescripts filled. Good thing I called.... they said my policy was not in affect until February! Wut? Anyway, got that straightened out and spent this afternoon watching Downton Abbey. :)

Winter PSA: How To Remove Salt Stains From Your Boots (http://www.phillymag.com/shoppist/2014/01/08/best-tip-remove-salt-boots/)
Winter weather (we’re looking at you, Hercules) has a way of wreaking havoc on public transportation, sucking the moisture from our skin, and—perhaps the worst of ‘em all—totally annihilating our leather boots. Hey, we get it: Road salt helps subdue icy conditions, and our cars (and non-twisted ankles) are thankful. Unfortunately, it also leaves nasty white marks all over our shoes. Free People to the rescue! Just follow their super-helpful picture tutorial to eliminate stains at from your favorite boots. All you need is some cold water and white wine vinegar. Combine the two, dip a towel into the mixture and wipe your boots gently until the marks fade. Let air-dry and ta-dah! Your leather boots have been restored to their pre-snow-ravaged glory. You’re welcome.

Mr Wump your left bank insurgent look is quite a success , should make your next internal flight in the US an adventure.
We just achieved a post-polar vortex high of 60F and are heading towards 63F. Unfortunately it's pouring rain and will only get worse so not to be enjoyed outdoors.
We have achieved a post vortex high of 82 in Miami - however, with the humidity it feels like 87.... time to move my plant away from the windows and put the talcum powder on my nasty bits.
Edited to add: Or I could move my nasty bits away from the windows and put talcum powder on the plant... Decisions, decisions.
The vortex also meant really unusually mild weather all across Scandanavia and Northern Europe generally, and vegetation is out of whack there, among other problems caused by the lack of snow cover and daily freeze-thaw cycles.
Kick some more bark around that mistaken bulb and it may just wait comfortably for a good time to bloom later on.

Did you take that photo while you were out howling?
yep -- looks like Richmond will finally get into the snow action. Only 3-6 inches, but anyone who's lived in Richmand (Miss P) knows that they all go batshit crazy when white stuff falls from the clouds.
Wumpella's nuts.
NEW NOAA update (4:00AM) increased: now 10-14" expected LOL -- oh, and an overnight low of 8°F/wind chills of -6°F
Seriously, is this a joke? Yesterday started with 4 inches and the day before we were barely thinking of an inch. Now instead of the heaviest being on the coast I am exactly in the bull's eye.
Snow starts at noon and ends by 5AM Wednesday.
This was not fun at all -- and I'm only half done because it's going to snow more and drift heavily for another 12 hours. I didn't measure it but we must have 10 inches of snow already where I live.

It's rumoured that Gov. Christie has cancelled heat and light for those storm hit areas where he has been getting more bad press about bullying and political knavery. Oh no, the lights are fading here...
As of 7:50 PM Philadelphia had an official reading of 12 inches and mind you, it's still snowing hard as I write this, with winds gusting to 20mph. It should end around 1am.
I bet them steps are piled back up, better get to work.

ps: we once had two ~25" full-on blizzards within five days of each other back in the '08/'09 winter so if you want to pull up to the urinal for a pissing match I'm game.
Oh please, mary -- back in '78 we had ~27" in one storm and 2 weeks later had 54" (I win!). Hell the state of RI was shut down for 2 weeks and snow removal equipment was flown in from Buffalo.......
M
I'll have to bow out of this one -- our largest storm on record was this one (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/North_American_blizzard_of_1996) and while I wan't living here I had to come down a couple days later for an AIDS funeral. That was 30.7 inches. Surprisingly NYC's largest is only 26.9" in 2006
Also, cocks (http://www.weather.com/sports-rec/ski-conditions/50-states-biggest-snow-days-20130112)
edit: some of those results are surprising -- we get more snow than North Dakota?
ps: bocker, that link says the highest recorded snow in Rhode Island is 30 inches in 1978. I think I just beat you by 0.7" unless you can show that the Weather Channel is staffed with incompetent liars.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
it is snowing here in south Texas.
Ah, the glories of urban row house living -- I just noticed, after being awake for 2 hours, that it is 62F in my apartment. I turned the heat off last night around 8PM when I was cooking and forgot to turn it back on when I went to bed. Considering it went down to 8F last night that's not to shoddy, and I didn't wake up freezing at all during sleep (I have both a thick wool blanket and a goose down comforter with a flannel duvet).
Don't you usually have to slither out and sun yourself on a rock to get going in the morning any way ?
tongue stuck to flag pole...send help!
I'm quite distressed that I have to go out into the cold today form my klonnie refill.
Take a Klonnie to go get your Klonnie .
I've been hard at work shovelling snow here in San Antonio after our Snowpocalypse. Geez, Shovelling can really take it out of you, I may need to relax with a nice stiff drink in a bitI think you bought a 5 lb. bag of sugar just to impress us or maybe it's birthday glitter.

and fresh buttermilk to make cornbread.
I just made some buttermilk biscuits last weekend, and fresh blueberry buttermilk pancakes (both from scratch). They were delish.
My skin is so dry and wind burnt from being outside today, that plus the heater is not helping. dry dry dry. It literally burns, I have moisturizer and a vaseline coat on my face.
+ it's so cold and miserable here that I am confined to my house for my birthday friday night :( Oh well, guess I will melt some velveeta and have queso chips and margaritas!
I suppose I could call me 22 y/o latino trick over.
I think I might make some spelt flour pancakes (http://wholegrainscouncil.org/recipes/main-dishes/simple-spelt-pancakes) tomorrow and top them with chai-enfused maple syrup.
Buttermilk biscuits from scratch are the besets! You know these Southern Queens here all cheat and use Bisquick. So not fetch.
Up your game and have the 22yo twink rub lotion on you! A little rub and tug?
When I was pregnant with my daughter, I craved raw Bisquick dough. And yes, I gave in to the craving on more than one occasion and no, it wasn't fetch, I'll admit. ;D
That definitely sounds odd, though honestly I'm not sure what it would taste like.
I also craved ordinary things like Reuben sandwiches, but without sauerkraut. I miss Reubens - you can't get proper corned beef here, you can only get the tinned stuff. Yuck.
When I was about 4 or 5 I had cravings for very odd things so my mom took me to the doctor and mentioned it . The doctor put me on some vitamins and I stopped eating the things I should not have . I do not remember the doctor part but I do remember sneaking food and getting caught .
What were you eating? Poo?
It's been snowing really hard here for 1/2 hour and the sidewalks are already lightly covered. Fun!
you need to move
you need to move
Yes. I talked with the landlord and he put off coming over because it was constantly snowing and the wind was whipping around. So, I shoveled around to the back where my car is, and around my car. Which would equal about a block plus a little extra for the space around the car. The snow was 8 & 1/4 inches, very heavy, not that fluffy stuff we've gotten before.
But, it was exercise. The landlord called and said he will be over to snow blow out behind my car. I told him about shoveling and suggested he not pay the man in the back for work he doesn't do lol. Northern women are tough!
How many tenants in your building are affected by the lazygood4nufink wart who is not attending to his snow duties ? Remember to keep a copy off the letter to the landlord and if pos e mail them to. Helpful if you have to claim damages from the snow not being attended to .

No, I meant you need to move somewhere else where it doesn't snow so much. Doesn't have to be the Sunshine State.

I'm forcing myself to shovel even if it's quite uncomfy with arthritis, though at the same time as long as it's not more than 8" of snow it's not bad exercise. I'm afraid of what will happen when we eventually are slammed with a full-on blizzard of +20 inches though.
I had to grill steaks out in 43 degree temps so it tough here too .
We are at 24.5" of snow this season (our average is 19" annually, but for December-January only 8.5"), and thus far this is our 4th snowiest January on record. The heaviest snows for our area are usually from January 22nd thought February so...
so now I'm researching setting for an office computer. No one else uses it, but if ever questioned, but I don't want to explain why I have the search history I do.
NBC Nightly News has been reporting snow figures that are off, from what others say. For Philadelphia, tonight they say the average snowfall each season is just 7.9" and that you've gotten 33.7" thus far. They say Chicago's average is 17.2" which seems very small to me. They have Indy at 14", which I know is lower than what they get. Louisville gets around 14 I think.
Is this bad reporting or about where the snow is measured? Here in Louisville, the official rain, temp, and snow readings were moved to the airport, from the National Weather Service, which is in the suburbs and near my house. Some still go on their readings, while the airport is suppose to be the official count now. And, there can be a huge difference. Some parts of our county got 5" of snow the other day, while the opposite end saw a dusting to 1 inch. The people on the end of town were wondering what all the fuss was about. They had been missing a lot of these repeated snowfalls.
Sounds like a bummer time to be having a Superbowl on the east coast. I wonder how that is going to pan out.
Here is ours for Monday night.
Monday Night Partly cloudy, with a low around -14. Wind chill values as low as -32. West wind 9 to 13 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.
We are supposed to get snow tomorrow ! . Maybe even a tea spoon full like Willy had if we are lucky .
We are inline for another "Winter event" tonight in the form of a few ice pellets, after last weeks snowpacalypse, and now this, I'm not sure how much more I can endure.
Betty, your area has been on the news the last couple of nights. looks horrible.
We are inline for another "Winter event" tonight in the form of a few ice pellets, after last weeks snowpacalypse, and now this, I'm not sure how much more I can endure.
I had a patch of frost on my car window the other morning so I know your pain .
There is a full fledged Alabama blizzard going one here . This is way way past a
San Antonio tea spoon blizzard . I don't even have to go to wallmart to know there is no bread or milk to be had .
Thats crazy. Just saw a shot of Alexandria Louisiana on TV, it is full on blizzard there. ...LOUISIANA!
No precip here so i put my snow boots and teaspoon up. But it's cold as snot.
Iother than driving myself to the hospital yesterday to get stitches in my right hand lol.
Yikes Did I miss something? What happened to your hand? Hope it wasn't a nicotine withdrawal induced incident
She cut her hand in a horrible dish washing accident . I sure hope she doesn't have to shovel snow with stitches in her hand .
I can send her my spoon if it will help.
Oh Jeff, I saw Birmingham made NBC Nightly News w/Brian Williams tonight. They showed a shot of a highway with cars stuck and a couple yahoos trying to push them out of a snow bank by hand. When was the last time y'all made primetime? 1958?
Its a mess . The whole state has just enough salt for over passes and interstate bridges only ... the rest will have to melt . It is 16 here right now and the snow will be here for at least a day or two ...I'm thankful the snow has not taken down tree limbs and power lines . I have a gas log fireplace just in case .
yes it looked bad. Stay warm. Hope you don't have to get out for awhile.
I can send her my spoon if it will help.
Until I can buy one, I've gone old school and put bowls of water on the heat vent and even turned on the showers.
Another trick is to disconnect the hot air vent at the back of your clothes dryer and let the hot humid air into the house. If you have one of those flexible white tube things, you can use that to direct it into the house and away from the wall. We used to do this in a house I lived in when I was first married.
Ann, I have to find something else to beat Will with, the spoon isn't going to get it. ;)
There are several caveats with this. If the dryer is already in a moist area, it can lead to mold and mildew. I have seen people use diverters that have a container of water where the exhaust heat passes through the water trapping the lint. They are messy and a pain in the butt.
Also, a gas dryer should NEVER be vented indoors.
I personally would never opt for this as a lot of microscopic particles are released into the air. And all the extra cleaning to rid the house of lint dust? I'd opt for specific products to address the issue.
wolfie
Ann, I have to find something else to beat Will with, the spoon isn't going to get it. ;)
You can use my Cat-o-nine-tails.
Ann, thanks for the suggestions. The vanilla and/spice thing is a good idea. If you're going to boil water, may as well make the house smell nice. I remember as a kid ,we didn't have a vent for the electric dryer, so my mom put panty-hose on it to catch the lint. Got the steam heat from it, though.

At least Atlanta isn't full of people screwing cheese and masturbating at car wrecks.
Woke up to 2 degrees here in Richmond -- AND -- no water coming out of my faucets. Ugh -- still not sure if it's my pipes or a broken water main somewhere nearby, but I'm thinking it's my pipes.
UGH!!
Woke up to 2 degrees here in Richmond -- AND -- no water coming out of my faucets. Ugh -- still not sure if it's my pipes or a broken water main somewhere nearby, but I'm thinking it's my pipes.
UGH!!
OH NO ! . I so hope it all gets sorted out and your pipes do not rupture . Its 10 here and I have the water dripping because I have a pipes in my crawl space and a busted pipe is a big fear of mine .
I know -- I have no water on the floor anywhere yet, we'll see. I'd use a hair dryer on the pipe where it enters my house, but neither Sid nor I really have any need for a hair dryer, so..........................
I have a call out to the plumber but, surprise, they are BUSY today with many busted pipes.
Made it through almost 50 yrs, most of them up north, with nary a frozen pipe -- guess it's my time!
At least it happened now and not when Sid and I are in Africa and my mother is here all alone. She is NOT good in an emergency.
M
I space heater works well too if supervised so as not to burn the house down .
Sounds like for once it's warmer here than in the South -- 13F!
Mike,
Any thawing? Our pipes run in the basement, which is finished. I have been wondering about the main water line, that runs from the street. For a few years, I've gotten inserts in the water bill about taking out insurance for that. The owner is responsible for the main line that runs from the meter. I never took out the insurance. It is $5 a month. So, I will feel very stupid, if something should happen to it. If those huge main water lines can break, then the smaller ones running to your home could, too. I'm sure that would cost $500 to $1,000 to replace. Perhaps more.
Mike, thought this would make you feel less crappy about a water pipe leak. :)
Not weather related but we had our main 4" copper sewer pipe split 3 winters ago. Our crawl space is about 5' tall with a dirt floor. We had no idea until we started to smell the faint odor of well... not hard to figure.
When we took a look it was obvious that this leak had been going on for quite some time. It was scary!!!
Homeowners insurance didn't cover the cost of replacing the pipe but they did cover the cleanup. I insisted that they would have to pay for either digging out the contaminated soil or pay to cover it with cement. We now have a cement floor.
There are models appearing (obviously over a week out isn't dependable) showing an "epic" storm on February 9th -- and guess what, Philadelphia is in the bull's eye with an obscene 36". And I'll be in NYC on that date but they are projected to get 31". Now I'm going to have to sit around all week and monitor this and decide whether or not I should travel.
Oh, HELL NO!!! that is the day I fly out of D.C. for Kilimanjaro, so I absolutely FORBID snow until after my 6:00pm departure (at least in D.C.).
Mike
Guilhermina, please read this (http://www.politico.com/magazine/story/2014/01/atlanta-snow-storm-102839.html#.UurBi3nnqFy) and tell me how it changes your view of the politics of this catastrophe.

In other weather news, I'm so upset. We had our driveway completely torn out and redone exactly 2 years ago. It was mid-February of 2012-- the year we basically had no winter. Up until the recent arctic temps, snow and ice, the driveway was fine. This happened from about a 2 months worth of bad weather. I've talked to different concrete folks, who believe the brine they are using now is wreaking havoc on home driveways. They said they have seen so much more concrete issues, since the city began using the brine along with the salt. This is where Brian's truck is parked. So, all the salt and brine dripped off and caused this, along with the sub-zero temps. I guess we will have to go to those car washes, that are automatic and then blow dry your car, because we obviously cannot wait until better weather to wash the cars.
This is just one spot and will continue to just get worse. Yes, first world problems.

So Miss P -- what is your weather maps saying about next weekend? I keep looking and hear that DC is either going to get rain, a wintry mix or snow AND it will happen either Fri, Sat or Sun!! Where do you cull all your weather info.
M
Other than the NWS for "official" projections I use this guy based in *ahem* Richmond, VA on Facebook. He makes private meteorological projections for large agricultural and oil companies for risk management, and then provides info on his Facebook page. I've followed him now for 4 years and he's always more on point than any local forecasters are. Plus he explains the modeling scenarios if you're interested in forecasting details.
https://www.facebook.com/WxRisk
That one map I posted earlier I said with a disclaimer it was only one model among hundreds and it was 10 days away from the even. With tomorrow's storm in the Mid-Atlantic and then another icing storm Tues-Wed. nobody is focusing on the 8th/9th storm until those are over, also because evidently every 12 hours the modeling changes wildly. So you might be safe to travel, but you also still might not. There are still models coming in showing a super large coastal storm. At best if I were you, I might reserve a hotel room next to Dulles or BWI (can't recall where you are leaving from) in case you need to drive up the day before your flight. You can always cancel it later.
I'm too disabled to shovel that much. :-XMe too. My left arm is numb from a disk problem in my neck. Some days I'm stubborn to my own detriment. :P
1) Snow just stopped in Philly -- the heaviest 8" portion went to the north of the city and we perhaps only got 4-5" but the snow was SUPER wet and heavy when I shoveled it just now.
2) the following frightens me and I may cancel my trip to NYC -- who wants to be there marooned in an apartment and/or sloshing around in (vintage designer) snow boots? I'll just re-schedule for April. 12-18" of snow -- no thanks.

ps: bicker that's from WxRisk
That goes for you too Miss P
Mitch it looks very beautiful but can you not hire lusty workers to help , are the 16 to 18 too rich and spoiled to want to earn some dollars using the one thing they have an abundance off vitality/energy ? Do you have a snow blower? If the youngsters are out off school would it not be the small town dream if they where harnessed to help others , Anyway take care please

That goes for you too Miss P
LOL++ mitchypoo (http://www.erh.noaa.gov/okx/stormtotalprecip.php)
We had an employee shovel earlier in the season when Kenny's back was bad but he didn't have his drivers license so it was not all that practical. There really are only 2 kids in our neighborhood. One is spoiled rotten with awful parents and the other has a big job at his own house.
We do have a snowblower but my left arm is too weak to maneuver the thing. I could/should have waited for Kenny to do most of it but still have to do the walkways by hand as there are steps everywhere.
I'm thinking this forecast is overblown as far as the snow goes. It does look like we are going to be dealing with a big icy sloppy mix. NOT fun to clean up.
I'm thinking you're a bit OCD with having to shovel all that and could get by with half the amount or less. I'd need an aerial shot to analyze my hypothesis.Quote
1) Sidewalk along road- shoveling required by town.
2) Front walkway and driveway- a must for oil and gas delivery. also to get mail and unload groceries, etc.
3) sidewalk to garage- I suppose we could ignore it and walk up the road to get back and forth from the garage and trudge in road salt and sand into the house.
4) garage driveway- um, ya.
5) I'll get right on that aerial shot. ;)QuoteI don't think it's overblown from what I have seen on the modeling. Rain/snow line is well south of you. Sorry!
I guess we will have to just cope with whatever comes our way. :P
Mitch the Pics are wonderful.
ps: Granny Mark, you still alive up in E. Haddam? I heard the storm up there is wrapping around and reversing direction, sucking cold air down from the north
I took it real easy but had to shovel for about 6 hours to make our drive and road access clear. I ran out of places to put the snow so I filled both trucks beds' to the top. It'll also add traction so it's double duty.
Our little community managed to get plowed
Jody and me enjoying a late afternoon lunch yesterday at Rosie's Bar and Grill in Wilton Manors. It was about 84 degrees and sunny, little humidity and a slight breeze (http://www.rosiesbarandgrill.com/)

Tomorrow we will go to Haulover Beach and South Beach and then to dinner at il Mulino (http://www.ilmulinofl.com/)
Weather is supposed to remain in the low 80s for highs and low 70s for lows...
I'm not envious of your heat, btw. I'm not used to such temperatures these days and I'd simply melt.
Heat?? I thought it was a bucket of water that was your nemesis?? ;D ;)

Aside from a return to bitter cold next week and more possible storms with ice and snow, the long-range forecast at least for Filthy is that it warms up to the 50's after the 16th and through the end of the month. Once we get to the second week of March in the Mid-Atlantic the average highs are in the 50's and with every passing week the likelihood of anything nasty significantly decreases, though of course we've had freak snowstorms in March.
I don't think we have a thing to worry about here in Birmingham .
Good grief, no wonder you pulled your hernia again - particularly getting the snow into the trucks. Someone needs to handcuff you to a bed somewhere before you do yourself some serious harm. Can't you get someone from "the post" or your family to come out and help you out while you've got this problem going on? You're not going to be able to be the snowfairyshovel-guy after the op, you know. Take care of yourself will you. That's an order, not a question.
What do your little community's sexual proclivities have to do with snow on the streets? ;D
[/i].
I do not mind if we are to get a bit of snow but ice is something we cant deal with here . If we have an ice storm I will most likely loose power .
oh, you'll be getting ice (http://forecast.weather.gov/showsigwx.php?warnzone=ALZ024&warncounty=ALC073&firewxzone=ALZ024&local_place1=&product1=Winter+Weather+Advisory#.UvjhynnnqFw) some Miss Honey especially as you live on the southeast side of downtown.
You better snag some candles when you're at the Dollar Store today buying more glue to sniff.
A chance of ice here in South Texas over next couple days. SO OVAH the cold. I guess I could always hunker down and make authentic cornbread and a pot of pintos.
It's cute how Guilhermina tries to jump in an play the ice card/winter panic meme when we all know at best she'll get some cold rain on her rusting Mercedes. That sodium enema from El Maracumbe II (yelp: 2.5 stars... but hey, it's only a four min. drive) must have really sent some kidney toxins up to her opiated drugged out noggin)
ps: next time decrease your carbon footprint and take the 505 bus to see the Egyptians make faux tacos. Better yet, downscale to the Cecile B Mobile Home Park and you could walk every day!

You spend an inordinate amount of time trolling, stalking and just generally obsessing over me. Perchance have you discussed this with your therapist?
Either that or embedding pictures of your morning glory turd floating in toilet water.
I got 3-4" of snow last night and had to go out and shovel at 10PM. And the models that I'm seeing for Wednesday-Thursday look like another 8-12".
Ms. P, are you ragging on pork rinds? I know they don't always smell the greatest, but man, they sure do give a good crunch. And I am a fool for a good crunch.
Theyer,
I hope that you dont get snowed in up in the Lake District this weekend.Stay safe and warm.I just finished work today for 2 weeks....im "staycationing" here only because Ive had fluey like symptoms again....grrr :(....its snowing here....but not too bad , compared to other parts of the UK.
britchickxx
Theyer,
Oh nooo!
Im just watching itv 1 news and trains are now stopping at Birmingham....not going up as far as the Lancaster area....so double check tomorrow :(
britchickxx
We are having a bonafide AllyBammy blizzard .
we may need pictars
ps: the snow is now MERE MILES AWAY from me on radar
pps: I've already had two appointments cancelled for tomorrow. Still don't know if I have a "session" with HAWT MARK.
Ray, Ed sorry we couldn't hook up but maybe next time.
Jody :) :) :)
We just achieved our 5th snowiest winter season on record, and only need 0.8" more to go to #4 and we'll probably do that tomorrow. Then need 0.5" for third so I can easily imagine this season being #3. If we get one more very large storm we'll get to #2.You'll get it, we have 8 new inches and still snowing here and it's coming at you.
And the snowiest #1 season I lived through four years ago -- never again.
I did find my car eventually :)
Michelle 8)
Supposed to get 4-6" here. It's almost a white out at the present moment. We are supposed to get to 50F at the end of the week, but back in the 20's over the weekend. This has been an unusual winter all over.

*cough*
it's 81 here right now.
Yes....but you have mosquitoes and Ted Cruz.....paradise it is not!
Who is shoveling for you Betty?
"....now is winter of our discontent...but let it snow...let it snow..."
Yes....but you have mosquitoes and Ted Cruz.....paradise it is not!
On a side note Ive had to fire up the AC i my car over the past few days and it appears I need a freon charge :(
It was 75 here today and ma daffodils are poking up . I planted hundreds of bulbs last fall so we shall see if the squirrels got them or if I will have a big show .
I have tons that bloom all spring and summer so I wont begrudge a tree rodent a meal .
After this arctic winter, all of our hyacinth bulbs are coming up. We had one coming up a few weeks ago, but now all are. The trees have buds on them. We often see this by late February, but I thought they'd be delayed this year. We thought this cold winter would kill all the algae in the pond, but nope. We have bright green string algae on everything. The water was 45 degrees today. The fish were out today, as it got near 60 and suppose to be 70 tomorrow.
started proselytizing about end times or some nonsense.
the SUN IS OUT!!
If it holds out for the entire day, it will end our 18 DAYS OF STRAIGHT RAIN in a row.
We're not expected to get much past 33 degrees for our HIGH temp in the next 10 days. We should be in the low to mid 40's. Spring seems so distant. :(
Yes! Our predicted high for tomorrow is 8F. The next 2 weeks, not supposed to be over 35F. I'm sick of this!! My daughter told me, over the weekend, her goal is to get me to move to Washington to be with her. I just don't know if I could stand all that rain.
Where exactly in Washington?
Of course the other issue with moving to another state, especially clear across the country, would benefit issues (Medicaid), finding another doctor etc.
......and once again I have go to the hanky color website. At least the new reference guide has everything from mosquito netting to white velvet so I'll be prepared for any forum references in the future.
Miss P is all stocked up on food preparations. Unfortunately I can't eat any of it because my freshly root-canaled rear molar hurts like a *%^&#)@ and you know how these Yankee doctors/dentists don't dole out percocets like candy in Texas.
Did you have the tooth pulled willingly or did the state have you defanged .

My surgeon wrote a script for enough pain meds for 3 weeks. Anyway, sorry you're going through that. I used to hate root canals. When I had teeth lol.

Its going to 70 here this weekend but its a chilly 70 .

We're supposed to get 4-6" over the weekend.
Of course, now the question is whether or not they'll keep adjusting the totals upwards in the next 36 hours before the storm beings.
If Philadephia receives in excess of 6 inches this will officially become the second snowiest winter season on record. #1 was only four years ago.
*yawn* Snow storms are SOOO last month. I had to dust off my flip flops and go bathing suit shopping today.I had a 3 hr break from the rain in Palm Springs and spent the morning by the pool with an umbrella in my after breakfast cocktail. As for flip flops mine r practically worn out.
If you live in Virginia when you wake up you may have some surprises in store, as all the latest models have pushed this entire storm down there. Big time.
I've heard there is a bill to knock off days to make up, since so many districts have missed so many days.
Yes -- and I thought I had dodge the "big" storm of the year whilst traipsing around Tanzania.....
Of course, I have a dentist appt. for my cleanning and an appt. to drop my car off on Monday morning for some maintenance.... oh well, looks like I shall be working from home with "dirty" teeth.
Where is our weather girl?? We need updates............!
URGENT!
We are under a Winter Weather Advisory as of 10 minutes ago....but we are taking lightning strikes all over SA and get this, It is Thundersleeting just west of SA.
I've never heard a weatherman say "thundersleet".
Is this the End of Days?
PS- If my house gets hit by lightning and I'm forced to go out in the sleet I'ma be a pissed off bitch.
This should be the last one for the season there in the Mid Atlantic. Just my prediction. Those cherry blossoms have to make their appearance soon you know.
So Miss P -- Why is it you like this forecaster?? He has been way off for the last few storms in Richmond? Was expecting a few inches and all I have is a thin layer of snowy ice covering everything -- not even 1/2".

I'm NOT laughing.
The version that just came out a couple hours ago is even worse -- oh, and now snow is showing here for next Tuesday on long range forecasts.
Is it too soon to bitch about the oppressive heat?
Hey mitchypoo -- thanks for jinxing us (http://www.accuweather.com/en/us/northeast-region/weather-radar?play=1) with your premature "Spring" thread :P
YOU ALL FAIL with the snow. still.
We are smack dab in the middle of spring down here 8)

I was also snowing earlier in the western suburbs of DC.
Ah, so the truth is out. You're actually the Snow Queen and it's YOU who has been dumping snow on the USofA this winter. For shame, for shame!
I see you running around the Rock, red pen in hand, making corrections and lamenting the destruction of the Queen's English............. ;D

NOT a cheap place to stay. They get around $200-300 a night.
I would love to have you living next door! The current owners turned it into a B&B and did a beautiful job. It's a shame they are such pricks.

One must assume that the market accepts such prices and that the owners provide commiserate service.
I am not surprised at the prices after looking at the web site.
