I got a call from my doc's office to say i have to come in and re-do my triglycerides test again because it showed up as an 8..they want to see if it was a lab error..what the hell is an 8?? thanks to anyone who can help!

hello,
tiglycerides are one of the measures of the fat levels in your blood & plasma, the other being your cholestorol levels...the "normal" range(for a fasted test - ie you not had anything to eat or drink except clear fluids for bout 12hours before)  is <2.2 millimoles per litre, so a result of 8 mmol/l would be considered quite high.

this is just one result, and needs to be put into the context of what your levels have been previously, adn the other factors which might suggest an increased risk of heart disease etc - this will prob be why your dr wants to repeat the test.  That, & the potential for lab error, o f course...

thanks for the info Kate..so would you say this is a time for panick?lol..well i havent been in the gym for 3 months..but i just started back yesterday..and planning again for today and then fasting for my blood test tomorrow at 8am..im praying for a lab mess up becauase im really getting tired of this HIV thing like most of us..i just want to be normal and not have to worry about so much..

no panicking, this is just one test result.

wait and see what the repeat test looks like - then you and your dr can have a think about what, if anything needs to be done.
thinking about diet, exercise etc, all good ideas for preventing problems - the ibase link has some useful tips.
