Question about testing:
« Reply #50 on: October 04, 2009, 04:46:29 pm »
Hello everyone,

So I had a sample collected on 8/31 after an inciden on 8/7   I had the HIV RNA (PCR) test.  On 9/2, I got my result that says :
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
HIV Qnt RT (PCR)
   HIV-1 RNA by PCR
Less than 48 copies/mL, HIV-1 NA not detected

The reportable range for this assay is 48 to 10,000,000 copies HIV-1 RNA/mL.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now I have a couple of quetions about this..

1.  Does the RNA test look or HIV-2 as well?  Is the RNA structure of HIV-1 and 2 similar enough that someone with HIV-2 RNA would show up on this test that I took?

2.  Why is the test for 48 copies and not 1 copy?  What if I have 35 copies and it was below the range but still there?  Would I have had more than 48 in this perio from 8/7 to 8/31 ?

3.  Do I still need to have an antibody test done?

Thanks in advance for the help with these questions!

I've merged your threads. Follow our rule and use only this one thread for your entries.

You are HIV negative. Your non-reactive (negative) result is not a surprise since you never had a risk to begin wtih. And yes, your tests covered HIV 1 & 2.

Stop with the drama and get on with your life.

Sorry to persist Andy,

But why does the RNA test say HIV-2 only?  When I've had the antibody test in the past it says HIV-1/2

Also, can you address the question about the <48 mL and why it's not just 1?

Thanks again

Anyone who continues to post excessively, questioning a conclusive negative result or no-risk situation, will be subject to a four week Time Out (a temporary ban from the Forums). If you continue to post excessively after one Time Out, you may be given a second Time Out which will last eight weeks. There is no third Time Out - it is a permanent ban. The purpose of a Time Out is to encourage you to seek the face-to-face help we cannot provide on this forum.

I really don't appreciate the short leash.  I am not posting excessively.  I am asking legitimate questions to better educate myself.  I am asking a simple question about testing.  If you can't answer the question leave it for a moderator that can.

Ryan,

Do you bother to read a single thing written to you? Not only do you repeatedly ignore our posting guidelines concerning not starting new threads, but you also repeatedly ignore our advice that YOU HAVE NOT HAD A RISK FOR HIV INFECTION!!!

You don't need RNA testing. You don't need antibody testing. YOU HAVE NOT HAD A RISK FOR HIV INFECTION!!! If you have specific questions about what test you were given, go to the testing center that ripped you off with a totally unnecessary and expensive test and ask them.

It doesn't matter that he had oral surgery six days before you kissed him. Kissing is NOT a risk. You can test all you like over this incident and your negative resuls are NOT going to change.

I'm giving you a second time out. Maybe you can go have lessons in listening to what people tell you. At the very least, I suggest you seek counseling to get to the bottom of your hiv phobia. We cannot help you with that here.

Qucik question about blowjob - rimming Andy/Ann
« Reply #59 on: November 30, 2009, 01:42:58 pm »
Hello, so I got oral sex from a gay male for about an hour or so this morning, some of which was deep throat..also, for only the second time ever, I got rimmed..(his tongue in my anus)

I'm not sure, but it sounded like he might have been just geting over getting sick from something..

Can the tongue actually inserting into the anus be a risk, since the cells in your anus are ones that can be infected (if he had HIV positive blood on his tongue)   Would that be enough?

also, if he had some kind of mucus or anything in the back of his throat that my urethra hit when hew as deeptrhoating me, could that cause infection?  I assume that HIV would be present in mucous as it is in semen (which is also basically mucous)

Thanks in advance for your kind answers

You're long overdue to have gotten straightened out about what's risky and what isn't. Our lesson on Transmission has all of the basics. There's a link to it in the welcome thread which opens this section.

If you're grown up enough to have your dick sucked and your butt eaten out then you're old enough to get with what is safe and what isn't and apply that information to your activities.

We're not here for you to wander in and get some attention everytime you get anxious after a sexual episode.

Andy please help me, I'm losing my mind..

Since the incident very early on Monday morning, now this morning and some last night, I have a stuffed up nose.  Could a symptom from HIV have happened this fast?  We did not kiss..he just gave me oral for approximately 45 mins and annilingus as well.   Could an HIV symptom come on as soon as 50 hours or so?

ryan,

As Andy already told you, neither getting your dick sucked nor your ass licked are risks for hiv infection.

You've already had two time outs - and now I'm giving you your third and permanent time out. You are now permanently banned from these forums. Don't bother trying to create a new account - it will be rejected.
