Are you asking this to reply to a poster in AM I INFECTED? You are not allowed to post there. It is also not allowed to exchange PMs with those people. You have an awful lot on your plate without taking on responsibilities for which you are not qualified. Please do not do this.

Nurse, as someone who is newly diagnosed as hiv positive, you should be asking these questions in the Just Tested Poz forum, not OFF TOPIC. OT is meant for all things EXCEPT things that have to do with hiv. For this reason, I've moved your thread to Just Tested.

You also posted - AGAIN - in the Am I Infected forum. You have been told more than once that you are NOT permitted to post there. For this reason, while I'm going to answer your question, I'm also going to give you a one-week time out. You really need to learn the rules of this forum if you want to continue to post here.

Oh, and another thing. I've rejected the new account you applied for. You've also been told about this too - remember when we changed your screen name? You're extremely lucky you're only being timed out for one week. We've banned people before now for doing what you've been doing. I will warn you, if you carry on in the same vein when you come back, you WILL be banned.

All you had to do to have this question answered was google it. It's plain to see without even clicking on any links that it's a third generation.

Most tests in use today are either third generation (hiv 1&2) or fourth generation (hiv 1&2 plus p24 antigen). There is no difference between them at six weeks or at three months. The fourth generation only makes a difference in the first few weeks when the p24 antigen may be present.

I understand you're wondering about your partner's tests. Provided he's tested negative at three months, then he is hiv negative. If he's tested negative at six weeks (or more than six weeks) his three month confirmation test is highly unlikely to change.

HIV is certainly character-building. It's made me see all of the shallow things we cling to, like ego and vanity. Of course, I'd rather have a few more T-cells and a little less character. Randy Shilts
