AIDS Face!
« on: August 02, 2007, 11:34:13 am »
I know this is a bit of a change in subject. My partner and I are both long time survives of HIV/AIDS. Over the years the meds have taken a toll on my partners face. For a man in his mid 50's it's hard to look into the mirror and see a face you don't recognize.
I work for a major hotel chain and have insurance to cover both of us. What I’m asking is does anyone know if there are any treatments to correct the swollen neck glands and the sunken cheeks?

Welcome to the forum, manin77009.
I know your pain, buddy. My thought is that by filling in the facial deficits..............that is, by bring the fullness of the face back,  the glands will not be as noticeable. I don't think there is much one can do about the glandular swelling itself. Maybe a change in meds. ? (doc approved, of course)
Do some research and ask many questions in making your decision. Know that most practitioners out there using the different facial fillers (in the US and latin countries) will not deal with silcone treated faces. Each time I have had fillers in my face I've had to sign forum stating no silicone has been put in my face. Don't know why.
I am partial to a product called Precise (the water based stuff). PM me if you'd like to learn more of my experience with it.
xxx,
Mike

Like Mike, I had my face filled with Precise. It's a PMMA product and I had the procedure done at a clinic in Tijuana. (I know that sounds scary, but it's not.) I'm very happy with the results.

Before doing the PMMA, I had four Sculptra treatments. That helped some, but not enough.

I had the Precise done in September and November of last year. Everyone tells me that I must be doing well, since my face looks so much better (fuller) than before.

You're welcome to PM me, too, if you'd like.

I'VE HAD  SEVERAL TREATMENTS AT THE CLINIC IN TIJUANA AND I AM VERY HAPPY  WITH THE RESULTS.THEY MAKE IT SO SIMPLE NOW.THEY HAVE A PRIVATE CAR THAT PICKS YOU UP AT THE AIRPORT,TAKES YOU TO THE CLINIC AND THEN TAKES YOU BACK TO YOUR HOTEL OR TO THE  AIRPORT!!!BEGINNING NEXT YEAR YOU WILL HAVE TO HAVE A PASSPORT TO TRAVEL INTO TIJUANA.I PLAN TO HAVE A TOUCH UP TREATMENT BEFORE THAT HAPPENS.GOOD LUCK!!!

To my knowledge both conditions are considered cosmetic and most insurance companies won't cover it. I had my face done about five years ago where they used pharmaceutical grade silicone droplets to fill in my sunken in face. Worked beautifully and I've had no side effects. It was  considered a permanent solution instead of having to have things touched up every six months. I don't know if they are still doing it but a well know dermatologist in LA did mine.

When you mention the "swollen neck" I'm assuming that your talking about the buffalo hump. I know a guy that had a horrible one and they corrected with liposuction but again considered cosmetic.

I had my face done in Puerto Rico. I preferred the PMMA because I did plenty of research and I finally felt comfortable in making the choice. I had a pretty large area to fill but it was worth every penny. It was not an easy ordeal moneywise or "painfree-wise"! It was a tedious procedure, but you really want to have it to tolerate it. It is worth it and I'm 44 years old. It looks real normal. Be "picky" on the doc who will do the procedure. I liked mine immediately because I perceived an art lover in him and he loves cats as much as I do! Be careful and don't confuse swollen neck glands with buffalo hump. A definite cause of the swollen glands must be known before going into these treatments. Email me if you wish for more info on my treatment.
