another sustiva question..l.
« on: July 06, 2007, 08:59:24 pm »
I take my meds (truvada and sustiva) at  9.00pm then go to sleep at 1030pm...I feel the effects at about that time...so I have trouble sleeping....would it be wise to change the time i take it to 10 pm...so that I would be asleep (probably) by 1130....if i changed my time...is it critical ...or adjusting the time to an hour would not hurt my regimen....have a docs appointment next week...on meds for a week now, but  am restless at night, maybe thinking of asking the doc for sleep meds...like luvista or whatever it's called, i wake up for work so early  (430am) that i think I would still be groggy from the sleeping pills...any advice???

They say you have an hour window either side so changing the time you take your meds within that timespan won't have any adverse effect.
Good luck!

From what I know of Sustiva/Truvada, it shouldn't hurt to adjust it an hour if you wish.

I also have the sleep issues with it, among other things. I find sleeping after I take it is problematic but that, by mid afternoon, I can sleep like a baby.

Most inconvenient.

I would ask the doc about the sleep aid. It may leave you groggy if you rise at 4:30 a.m.

HUGS,

I just switched from Sustiva to Viramune as i did not like the multiple issues I had with Sustiva.  I never had scarey dreams, but I never felt like had a real reastful nights sleep.  I took Sustiva for a year and  half and wish I had switched earlier.  I use to take my sustiva, right before bed 11:00pm; most mornings I woke up around 3:00am wide wake, and had a hard time getting back to sleep - it sucked!!!.  I also had fairly bad cognitive issues with Sustiva - felt like I was drunk most mornings and could barely concentrate at work.

I never tried a sleep aid - you might try it, but i hate taking more pills to treat side effects.  Sustiva and Truvada was my first regimen and I felt like I had to stay on it and endure the side effects.  If they don't get better over the next three months definitely talk to your doc.

FYI - most of my friends who are on sustiva have no issues - they are so lucky.

For what it is worth I am really glad i made the switch to Viramune; I'm still on Truvada as well

i take zopiclone to help me get to sleep. I'm on sustiva and truvada and take em at 9pm, I was having the odd night where I would just lie there for ages or some nights feel like I never dropped off.  There were some nights when the sustiva dizziness helped me doze off but when it was the other way and I couldn't sleep it started driving me mad.
I think zopiclone can be habit forming tho  :-X

I take my Sustiva (Atripla) in the mornings first thing.  When I took it at night, I took it right before I went to sleep.  I didn't notice any problems with falling asleep doing it this way.  I tried taking it earlier, but that only caused me to feel weird and not able to get to sleep.  Taking it in the morning works best for me (and a few other AM members).  I get the benefit of a really good sleep (like I did pre-meds) and I tolerate the side effects better.  I do take Adderall in the morning too, so maybe that has something to do with how well I tolerate it, but who knows.  As to an hour or so for changing dosing times, it shouldn't be an issue.  Good luck with it.

I too take Sustiva in the AM.... usually right around 6 AM.  When I first started on meds over a year ago I had significant insomnia.  So my trials nurse suggested trying them in the morning. It worked for me.   Maybe things will resolve in a few days to week or so since you are just fresh on meds.  I tried Ambien when I first started but it did nothing for me.  Like others have suggested, you can talk to your doctor.  I was a bit hesitant to do much with sleep aids because so many of them were habit forming.  Of course, the side effects seem to impact everyone differently.

My doctor said that the sustiva stays in your system at high enough levels that changing the time isn't an issue.  When I changed from night to morning he just had me skip the night does and start taking them on the new schedule the next morning.  He also said not to worry about time zone changes when traveling but to just stay on my same dosing schedule.

Best of luck...

I too have switched to AM dosing.  Now I am not sure I would suggest it if just starting due to the dizziness.  Right now I appear to be adjusting well to the morning dose and notice sleep is a lot better at night.
