HELP PLEASE!! ASAP!!
« on: May 05, 2009, 05:48:25 pm »
I am very worried for my ex boyfriend. A few weeks ago he had unprotected sex with a girl that he did not know. He said it lasted maybe 5 minutes and he came inside of her. He is very worried, he has spoken to her since and she said she is not pregnant because she is on the pill. Is there a chance he might have contracted HIV??

The only way to know his status is by testing. Advise him excessive drink and sex don't mix.

OK. Anytime someone has unprotected intercourse (vaginal or anal) there is risk unless it's between securely monogamous partners who have reliably tested negative together.

So yes, your bf did have a risk. It's significantly harder to transmit HIV from female to male than the other way around, so that lowers the risk for him. It was also a single, relatively brief incident which is also in his favor to test negative.

He should test at 13 weeks past the most recent unprotected incident. Meantime you two should be using condoms everytime if you are having intercourse. And since he had this incident while drunk you should give serious thought to using condoms with him all the time even after he tests because what you have described is not what I would consider a securely monogamous situation.

Odds are in his favor he will test negative but low risk is not the same as no risk so testing is absolutely necessary.

Cheers.
