Prehaps a Viral Load test, so not a screening test.

In short, it would primarily be used to measure how treatment is doing in people living with HIV. It would measure the RNA found, most viral load tests go as low as 50 or 20 copies nowadays.

Although, if it was this test, it would not record the result quite as you mentioned. Would help if you give some context as to why you are asking this and was this a result of a test you had done and if so why?

I removed your duplicate posting and merged your threads. Please only post here in this one thread moving forward.

Based on what you posted so far, I will presume that you are testing or looking to test following a real HIV issue like condomless intercourse.

These antibodies tests are generally overly sensitive and, that's good but, the drawback is potential cross antibodies reaction can sometimes (rarely) happen to antibodies from other infections past or current. Also, an indeterminate result can occur when testing within the window period (too soon) before antibodies have reached (clear) detectable levels.

If you had this result, then keep in mind a reactive screening test is not an HIV diagnosis. It simply means more specific follow-up testing is needed to rule out HIV, and the testing algorithm after a reactive result would usually be an HIV-1/HIV-2 antibody differentiation immunoassay test and/or a NAT test.

It's also worth mentioning that if the potential exposure was recent, further retesting at a later date might be required to exclude an HIV infection. Test with a blood-drawn HIV antibodies test at six weeks post last exposure, a non-reactive result at that time will rarely ever change. If you wish, you can retest at three months post-incident for peace of mind.

Here's what you need to know to avoid HIV infection:
Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, every time, no exceptions. Consider talking to your health care provider about taking PrEP going forward as an additional layer of HIV protection.

Keep in mind that some sexual practices which may be described as ‘safe’ in terms of HIV transmission might still pose a risk for transmission of other STI's, so please do get fully tested regularly and at least yearly for all STI's including but not limited to HIV and test more frequently if unprotected intercourse occurs

Also, note that it is possible to have an STI and show no signs or symptoms and the only way of knowing is by testing.

Kind regards

Jim

So the reason I asked all those questions is because I had unprotected sex with hiv+ men who's not on meds (i did not take prep). A few weeks after that i had runny nose, headache, sore throat and rash.
I did the 4th Generation HIV Ag/Ab duo test
28th day: inconclusive/indeterminate
at one year negative
at 2.10 years negative
my ongoing symptoms for the past 2.8 years:
Persistent submandibular Lymph nodes
Oral thrush
Chronic Sinusitis
Joints pain
Muscle loss
Acid reflux
I know that hiv is not diagnosed by symptoms but my doctor did additional blood test apart from hiv/std which showed
nothing is abnormal which can explain that the symptoms im having can possibly be due to the hiv.(I’m fully aware that it sounds like anxiety)
My question is why does the 4th generation ag/ab duo test won't detect the infection after 2.10 years?(did not had another exposure) could i be seronegative?

Hiya.

The reason why your results are negative is that you didn't acquire HIV from the concerned encounter, it was a risk but HIV is difficult to acquire so odds were always in your favour. As for the issues listed, they are common i.e they happen to most adults at some stage regardless of HIV status.

If you are still feeling unwell keep working with your doctor to treat or manage these issues and I hope you feel better soon.

Should you be sexually active again regardless of who it's with use condoms, consider PrEP and test as a sexually active adult for STI's & HIV yearly out of routine.
