Hi i had unprotected sex on 25th october 2008, i had a finger prick test (rapid test) at TPA on 6th january it was (10wks/73 days) and he told me it was negative, i never got it a ELISA test done at the gum clinic where i was suppose to get it done at in the first place. He said he accepts the result has negative. it takes 6-8weeks to show antibodies.I dont know if the result was correct.ive been reading about it and says it could take up to 6 months to show antibodies, im worrying myself sick because i might have to wait up to 6months and i cant wait that long, im not eating and losing weight. When i wake up on the morning ive been having abit of diarrhea. Im scared because the 6month result might come back positive and i dont want to have hiv? my 12th week for the 25th october is 17th jan, I had elisa test done at the gum clinic on 13th January, it was (11weeks and 3days/80days) does a few days before 17th jan really matter? Im just waiting for the results. Do you think the results for 13th January will be the same has 6th January. Do I need to retest at 6months? if the results come back negative after this antibody test on 13th jan,im gona be worried in case the antibodies show up at 6months and i dont get tested at 6months, then i wont know ive got hiv and become ill when it develops into aids and it too late for treatment.

The average time to seroconversion is 22 days. All but the smallest number, and I mean the very smallest, who are going to seroconvert will do so within 4-6 weeks after an exposure to the HIV virus.
You had a single unprotected incident. Transmitting HIV from a woman to man is significantly harder than the other way around.
With all of that in mind it is extremely unlikely that you will get anything other than a negative result at 13 weeks. A negative at 13 weeks would be conclusive. Forget about that outdated 6 months stuff. All of the generations of tests being used now will give you a reliable result at 13 weeks.
And for the future, as long as you always use a condom for vaginal and anal intercourse, you will be well protected and you won't have to go through this kind of risk and worry again.

As Andy told you, the vast majority of people who have actually been infected will seroconvert and test positive by six weeks.
You tested just shy of the official UK twelve week window period. You really don't need further testing, but if you do test again over this I fully expect another negative result. You certainly do NOT need to test out to six months.
You need to be using condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, every time, no exceptions until such time as you are in a securely monogamous relationship where you have both tested for ALL sexually transmitted infections together. To agree to have unprotected intercourse is to consent to the possibility of being infected with an STI. Sex with a condom lasts only a matter of minutes, but hiv is forever.
Have a look through all three condom and lube links in my signature line so you can use condoms with confidence.
Anyone who is sexually active should be having a full sexual health care check-up, including but not limited to hiv testing, at least once a year and more often if unprotected intercourse occurs.
If you aren't already having regular, routine check-ups, now is the time to start. As long as you make sure condoms are being used for intercourse, you can fully expect your routine hiv tests to return with negative results. Don't forget to always get checked for all the other sexually transmitted infections as well, because they are MUCH easier to transmit than hiv.
Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse and you will avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple.

im worried in case i seroconvert late, i read on here some people seroconvert 5months or 9months?

You don't fall within the guidelines of those that may take longer have detectable antibodies.
Those that may take longer which is very rare are those on chemo, those taking antirejection drugs for transplants and those that are chronic IV drug abusers.

Ah yes, I saw you poking your nose into threads in the other forums. You're wrong about what you thought you read. What you've read is where someone had a negative test in say, April, and then tested positive in, say, September. What you're not picking up on is that they HAD ADDITIONAL RISKS AFTER THEIR NEGATIVE RESULT (or while they were in a window period). I don't recall a single positive forum member who had a late seroconversion. Not one.
You're pretty much conclusively hiv negative. To go by the book you should test again at or after the twelve week point, but your eleven week, three day test is NOT going to change!
You don't have hiv. Start insisting on condoms and you will remain hiv negative. It's that simple.

You've received a thorough and informed consideration of your situation. There's no sound basis for thinking you're anything other than HIV negative.
If you have concerns about some condition on your tongue that's something to discuss wtih your doctor. We don't evaluate symptoms here.
And if you continue to return with this same groundless concern you're going to find yourself getting a Time Out.

Rodney responded the way he did because, after all, you're not hiv positive and you don't need to be worrying about name reporting.
But no, as far as I'm aware (and I live in the UK and I'm hiv positive) there is no name reporting in the UK.

Hi i tested negative at 12weeks, and i wanna get another test at 6months to reassure myself, but in another way i dont coz im scared it will of changed to positive?
Im scared people will find out im positive and get stigma esp i feel for my 2yr old son will get builled?
Why i wanting to retest at 6months, is because i dont know if ive got a immune disease that might make late seroconversion? I dont know if Hepatitis C makes late seroconversion, i dont know if ive got it?
Im not having chemo therapy/cancer drugs, im not a chronic iv drug user, or taking anti-rejection drugs following an organ transplant.

This is getting out of hand, you are HIV negative, what else can we tell you, I think it's time you seek some outside therapy, there is nothing more we can do for you.
Your 12 week negative is not going to sudenly change to a positive result..how many times do we need to tell you that...if you continuously keep coming back and asking the same questions then you will be given a Time Out, no more questions/posts on this subject, it's time to move on.
Please consider this a warning.

hi andy, dont ban me! anniebc said i will be given a Time Out if i kept coming back, that why i never posted in my thread. i just need a answer to this please, i cant get a answer from anyone, im going out my mind.
1)Does Hepatitis A,B,C and immune disease make late seroconversion for HIV?
2)How far/long (how many months) do u have to wait to test for hiv if youve got either/both of Hepatitis A,B,C and a immune disease
I test negative at 12weeks for Hep B, do i need to retest?
When can i test for Hep C on a normal antibody test?

No, you do not need to re-test at 6 months. Hepatitis would not delay seroconversion nor would it affect the result of your HIV test, IF you have hepatitis.
As long as you keep looking wiipedia and elsewhere on the net I can guarantee you that you'll find lots of (mis)information to feed your worst fears. All to no good purpose of course.
You're HIV negative. Period. Stop all the drama and just get on with your life. And yes, you are going to get a Time Out if you keep coming back here with more worries when we know you're HIV negative.
