worried about catching hiv
« on: December 10, 2010, 10:48:38 am »
hi, this few days i have been very worried about being infected by hiv.

2 months ago, i had sex with a prostitute. i had the intercourse with condom on, but at the end half of the condom is like pulled out from my penis.

I also had rashes in between my leg and my crotch, i wonder if i can get infected if some of her vagina liquid or blood get in contact with my rash?

i have been having a bad diarrhea today, that kinda made me worried :(

thank you very much for reading my story, and please pardon my grammar, as english is not my native language

Steve, it's not clear from what you have reported if you actually had a risk. As long as the head of your penis remained covered then you were effectively protected. If the condom simply rolled up partially from the shaft of your penis that would not be a risk. Please clarify.

Nothing you are reporting symptomantically is anyway HIV-specific. If those symptoms continue you ought to discuss them with your doctor.

Awaiting your clarification regarding the condom.

hi Andy, thanks for the quick reply.

yup the head is still covered, just half of the shaft is exposed.
Maybe because she pumped me twice after i come and my penis started to loose its hardness, will this be a risk? since there might be some liquid went into the condom as it is not "perfect fit" anymore?

As long as the head of your penis was covered then you had the effective protection of the condom. You are worrying needlessly. There's no need for further concern nor for HIV testing on your part.

Nothing you are reporting from that incident put you at risk for HIV.

Steve,

Even with the additional details, you have not had a risk. The head of your penis was covered and that's what's important. You don't need to worry about fluids getting inside the condom.

You don't need to worry about your rash either. Hiv is a fragile, difficult to transmit virus that is primarily transmitted INSIDE the human body, as in unprotected anal or vaginal intercourse where the virus never leaves the confines of the two bodies. Once hiv is outside the body, small changes in temperature, and pH and moisture levels all quickly damage the virus and render it unable to infect.

You did the right thing and used a condom. Condoms have been proven to prevent hiv infection.

You have not had a risk. Here's what you need to know in order to avoid hiv infection:

You need to be using condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, every time, no exceptions until such time as you are in a securely monogamous relationship where you have both tested for ALL sexually transmitted infections together.

To agree to have unprotected intercourse is to consent to the possibility of being infected with an STI. Sex without a condom lasts only a matter of minutes, but hiv is forever.

Have a look through the condom and lube links in my signature line so you can use condoms with confidence.

ALTHOUGH YOU DO NOT NEED TO TEST OVER THIS SPECIFIC INCIDENT, anyone who is sexually active should be having a full sexual health care check-up, including but not limited to hiv testing, at least once a year and more often if unprotected intercourse occurs.

If you aren't already having regular, routine check-ups, now is the time to start. As long as you make sure condoms are being used for intercourse, you can fully expect your routine hiv tests to return with negative results.

Don't forget to always get checked for all the other sexually transmitted infections as well, because they are MUCH easier to transmit than hiv.

Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, and you will avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple!

Hello, it is me again.

3 weeks ago i had sex with a pros in my friends bachelor party. i dunno how, but half way during the intercourse she removed the condom, i only realized after 3 or 4 insertion.

i had sore throat for around 2 days, and my nose feels itchy but i can't sneeze it out.

now i am really scared that i might catch hiv. what do u think about my chance of catching it?

Steve,

The chance of you becoming infected from this very brief incident is very low. Hiv is a fragile, difficult to transmit virus and it's more difficult to transmit from a woman to a man.

While you do need to test, I fully expect you to test negative.

Don't interpret every little twinge or sniffle or sore throat as a "sign" you've been infected. If you feel unwell, see a doctor. It's highly unlikely to have anything to do with hiv.

The earliest you can test is a six weeks. The vast majority of people who have actually been infected will seroconvert and test positive by six weeks, with the average time to seroconversion being only 22 days. A six week negative must be confirmed at the three month point, but is highly unlikely to change.

Either is suitable, Oraquick doesn't involve a needle.

hello,

i decided to wait for 3 months before going for test, but i don't think i can last that long. i kept on wondering either i am positive or not. As for today, it is been 2 months since the possible exposure i mentioned in my last post. I wonder how accurate the test result will be if i went for test today?

Steve,

You've already been given this information.

The earliest you can test is a six weeks. The vast majority of people who have actually been infected will seroconvert and test positive by six weeks, with the average time to seroconversion being only 22 days. A six week negative must be confirmed at the three month point, but is highly unlikely to change.

Any test at or after six weeks will be an excellent indication of your hiv status. A negative result at or after six weeks must be confirmed at the three month point, but is highly unlikely to change.

Hi Ann,

My 2 months test result came out negative, but the doc told me to come back and do a re-test in one and half month time.

right now i have a swollen lymph node at the bottom of my ear, near my jaw.

I only have one condom protected intercourse after the test till today, as far as I know that is a really tiny risk.

Is it possible that i haven't develop antibodies during that 2 months period, hence the Oraquick test returned negative result?

Thanks again,

Steve

Steve, stop making this more complicated than it needs to be. It's not surprising that you tested negative because the condom protected you during intercourse.

I expect your next test to confirm your negative result. As long as you consistently use condoms for vaginal and anal intercourse you will be well protected against the sexual transmission of HIV.
