Giving Oral MSM
« on: October 22, 2017, 04:25:09 am »
Hi Guys,

I would just like your assessment  on the below activity, which hopefully let me move on with my life.
I give oral to a guy about 6 months ago, their was precum, and he did ejeculate a little into my mouth which I spat out immediately. I do have reseeding gums (only occasionally bleed) and I did bite my gum 24 hours prior to this whilst eating food, no blood during the event.
By the way, this was a bi curious event, nothing else happened, And my first MSM experience.
Many Thanks
Charging

Hi

Giving a blow, well saliva contains over a dozen elements that neutralize HIV and without gaping wounds in your head the mouth lacks the cells to infect, even if you did the concern remains near negligible for HIV.

If this was your only concern, move on with your life.

Continue to use condoms for any intercourse (No exceptions) and remember to test as you normally would at least yearly for easier to transmit STI's and HIV however no need to worry or to panic and no need to rush out and test from this incident.

Here's what you need to know in order to avoid hiv infection:
Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, every time, no exceptions.

Keep in mind that some sexual practices which may be described as ‘safe’ in terms of HIV transmission might still pose a risk for transmission of other STI's, so please do get fully tested regularly and at least yearly for all STI's including but not limited to HIV and test more frequently if unprotected intercourse occurs

Also note that it is possible to have an STI and show no signs or symptoms and the only way of knowing is by testing.

More information on HIV Basics, PEP, TaSP and Transmission can be found through the links in my signature to our POZ pages, this includes information on HIV Testing

Kind regards

Jim

Jim and other Mods,

I have read most of the posts on here regarding oral sex and have found them very reassuring, and i think that my overactive mind is now settling down. However, there is just one element  that i am struggling to shift, and that is why so many guys say that they can only have contracted the HIV via oral (giving MSM). I know that you guys never reply with it being a "No Risk" situation, and i know that you can’t speak for those who declare oral as the only way in which they could be infected. Anyhow, that said, you have assessed my risk which i am grateful for, and although it was my first ever experience with another male, it will be one that i will never repeat again.

By the way, you provide an excellent service, and i have been reading your posts like you are celebrity’s  - well done, keep the good work up
. :)

Kind Regards

Charging

Hi, The risk of giving a blow job is considered theoretical and would involve such factors as Jim  has explained to you.

Use condoms for all anal and vaginal intercourse and you can always expect a negative result when you test.

Thanks for the kind words, they are appreciated,

Wade

Hey Guys,

thanks for the reassurance regarding my situation, I just got myself into a good mental state after a prolonged period of anxiety over possible exposure as mentioned in my OP. However, I have just been requested to mobilize (for work purposes) to a Middle eastern country, and part of my medicals for work visa is a HIV test. So this has sky rocketed my anxiety. I know that you provide a Risk Assessment service (a very good one btw...), and not a counseling service!. However, that said, if you are able to provide your expert response to the below I would be most grateful.
Has anyone of "Us" worried wells crossed over onto the Just Tested Positive board after an exposure as mentioned in my OP
Do you guys have access to case reports in which guys claim to be infected with the HIV via giving oral (MSM) and if so, have your ever read any good and convincing cases of transmission this way ?
This one is related to ARS (Sorry, but I have to ask!) Is 9 days after exposure generally considered a bit on the early side for ARS?
I know that the only way to know is through testing, which I have to do for work, but your response to my questions may help with my anxiety whilst waiting to have test.
        Thanks Guys

You post is asking about stories, in around about way brought on by anxiety over nothing. You know that right?

Look there is allot of misinformation on the internet and lots of opinions that get passed around as facts, We however rely on the latest scientific peer reviewed
science for our assessments. This also gets fed back into the poz pages on transmission risks if needed and great effort is put into ensuring the message is clear.

As for peoples personal "i just tested positive stories" will just drive you nuts and science has moved on and anecdotal stories are just stories, not facts. Also we don't comment on stories here, there are a number of reasons why someone might not tell the full story, being newly diagnosed is often emotional and unnecessary scary time for many people.

Often the truth could mean admitting to something they are not ready or willing to admit/face up to out of unnecessary shame or other reasons such as fear of prosecution, or rejection and the stigma that may come with the truth. Often people also poorly understand the real risks or are not "out" regarding a certain activity and had additional risky behaviour before re-testing. Also people often mistakenly think someone they trust was not a risk and discount the exposure when it was the source.

We have also even had people here believe HIV comes from out of space so don't fall into the trap of reading anecdotal stories and taking them as fact as its not. They are stories nothing more nothing more than that.

The truth on giving a BJ is a simple one:

The mouth lacks the cells to infect, so without additional conditions it simply lacks route for HIV infection. Also saliva contains over a dozen elements that neutralize HIV giving yet another barrier so even if you had gaping holes in your head, the risk is so small that we do not recommend running out and testing over this. It does not mean it has never happened it just means the odds are so small its near negligible and not worth testing over if this is your only concern.

If what you posted here was the only concern and sexual contact since your last negative result than any test will expected to be negative.

Relax, stop reading shit online of thinking about symptoms, half the posters here have symptoms - they go on to test negative. Its just other illnesses and paranoia.

There have been a number of real world studies on this and to name one and the longest in particular:

In total almost 19,000 instances of unprotected oral sex were estimated to have occurred involving the 135 couples over the ten years of the study, but not a single case of HIV transmission was detected. The study authors conclude that:
“this seems to point to a very low probability of HIV transmission related to this practice.”Reference Romero J et al. Evaluating the risk of HIV transmission through unprotected orogential sex. AIDS 16:9:1269-97, 2002.

There really is nothing more we can do for you here, I am not saying that to be hash at all but your mind is spinning in the dirt on this subject looking for a conformation of a risk for no logical reason.

Move on with your life, no need for drama, test for the work visa thing and stop worrying about it. I wish you well when you do test and hope your work travels are safe and go well for you.

Take it easy

Jim

Hey Jim,
Thanks for quick reply mate, it’s appreciated! I wasn’t so concerned about people’s stories, but was more interested to know if anyone has gone from the Am i infected board to the Just tested positive  board on this forum, with similar exposure to mine

 Cheers

No, not to my knowledge and that is exactly asking about stories.

I'm not going circles with you on this one, you had a theoretical risk only, stop worrying and stressing about it.
