What happens whens when u get sniffles?
« on: March 22, 2011, 09:09:10 am »
So I am totally freaking out!  Just had a great trip an think I got a little sick from the germs on the airplane.  Some sniffles and feel a little run down.  This is my first time being sick and poz.  I am taking Atripla and have a good cd4 count and undetectable.  Is it ok to take dayquil? I used the epocrates app on my phone and it said no problem.  I don't want to call my doc for everything especially since this seems minor but just scared that everytime I get a runny nose or little cough im gonna flip out.  Does anyone have any advice? Also my cd4 was going up so well will this minor cold affect me in the long run...help please ;(

Call your pharmacist about taking the dayquil but I would guess she/he would say its ok.  You should be able to get over the cold even though you are now HIV+.  I freaked a bit too when first diagnosed when I had a really bad sore throat/cold and got over it just fine.

One of the best pieces of advice I received here on the forums is to remember you used to get sick before being HIV+ and guess what, you will still get sick.  Everything is not always related to HIV.  I have had a severe ear infection, a couple of things that will remain nameless that I received from some bad trade as my dr. calls them and the run of the mill colds.  Numbers are still fine.

Its OK relax, keep a note off your temp, take paracetamol to bring it down all the things you did with a cold before you knew your HIGNcd4 status. I think most off us can remember/relate. This minor cold may make you feel slightly embarrassed in the long term.
But I am English therefore genetically embarrassed.

I understand about freaking out over every otherwise little illness when being poz, I did the same thing. I just check with the pharmacist for any contra-indications for Atripla (there aren't many) and go on with life. My HIV nurse told me I was still going to have minor illnesses and things that are not associated with being poz so not to freak out over it. Hope this helps.
Diagnosed in  May of 2010 with teh AIDS.

Planes are germ factories.  I just saw a report about all the germs they find on tray tables and arm rests.  I'm know all these germs are found in many public areas.  But, we usually don't eat off a germ-filled subway seat like we do plane tray tables.  I think it is the air.  However, the airlines claim the air is cleaned so well that it is better than air in your own home.  I'm not so sure--especially when the person and kids sitting near you are coughing and hacking.  I get sick everytime I fly.  I'm going to start carrying the alcohol wipes and maybe even a mask...lol.  It sucks to travel on vacation and then be sick.

Hi ppp333

I left out from my post that I spent a lot off time freaking out at first.

Re.  tediniou2 point---Brother in law worked in air craft industry, planes are germ pools, according to him.

Hope you are feeling better
