Hi All:

Just slightly over one year ago (August 26, 2012) the AMG Preliminary Site Location Preference thread was started. As those who have experienced an AMG know, it takes months to plan this event, so it is time to start the thread to get ideas of possible sites and time of year for AMG 2014, so here you have it – the AMG 2014 Preliminary Site Location Preference – Official Thread. a couple of weeks earlier. Please read the information below. Also, when providing site preferences, please note that it would also be good to provide a time of year (month) that you would recommend for AMG 2014.

Please use this thread to state your site preference(s) for AMG 2014. PLEASE LIMIT YOUR RESPONSES TO A MAXIMUM OF THREE LOCATIONS THAT YOU WOULD LIKE CONSIDERED FOR SITE LOCATIONS TO HOST AMG 2014. Also, include a time of year (month) next to your site selection --- so, try to present your info as follows:

Example:
Site Time of Year
ABC Land August
Candyland Sept
Never Neverland July

This thread will allow for the gathering of a list of potential sites for AMG 2014. The list of potential sites will be narrowed down to the Top 3 locations for a future voting thread to be established. Then we can discuss rational behind the selections (e.g. cost factor, distance, things to do, weather)

To allow ample time for preferences to be made and to narrow down the list based on those preferences - let's accomplish this particular part (naming preferences) by October 18, 2013.

I normally don't contribute to the Site Location Preference, but I figured I would do so this year to take away the "I don't want to be the first person to post site location preferences" fear or anxiety that anyone may have

So, here you go - in no specific order...

- Philadelphia August

- New Orleans October

- San Diego July or August

PhilD - who plans on being at AMG 2014 whenever and wherever it is held...

Hi Mitch:

Yeah - we typically limit it to a person's top 3 preferences - than we get enough locations to narrow the number down to 3 of the top selections which then go up for vote to arrive at a final location. In the past there have been 16 - 20 different locations named, with three rising to the top... Those three then get voted on and we then have our AMG site

So far, the leaders are (hopefully, with many more preferences to be named):

1) New York, NY (6)
2) San Diego, CA (5)
3) Philadelphia, PA (3) TIE

There are 10 other preferences that have also been selected - each w/ 1 "tick" - not a vote yet, as these are preferences

Ryan Gossling's butt is "trailing" (well, actually it has 1 "tick" also)....

yes, that would be have to be one of the requirements of any location. It has to have access to liquor and it has to have access to gay bars

ok, happy wherever we end up and could list so many places to go, many of which some of you have already been, but since the limit is 3...

in no order.

San Francisco - anytime (for the incredible beauty. visited about 8 times and have never felt like I've had enough)

Cruise - anytime (more intimate setting, new experience for me, and maybe a bit more relaxing.)

Choice number 3 - I can't quite decide yet. (sorry Phil to be such a pain in your behind.

I think New York isn't a great idea just for the fact hotels are normally 300/night and above, even with a group rate.

It depends a lot on day of week. I have a friend who stays in a lot of hotels, so I've vicariously picked up a thing or two. Avoid Tuesdays, apparently. Who knew?

Through Hipmunk you can stay at the Affinia tonight for only $159 and Cassa for $233. Those are two of my favorites. I don't know why.

But yeah, it's hit or miss.

The standings to date in regards to location preferences are:

1) TIE - New Orleans, New York, San Diego (each with 8 'ticks')
2) TIE - Denver, Philadelphia (each with 5 'ticks')
3) TIE - Charlotte, Cruise, San Francisco (each with 3 'ticks')

No matter where we end up, AMG 2014 has the potential to be our biggest and best yet.... Let's make it happen!

No shower? Can't put a bag around it? Although, it is probably difficult to stand in the shower. I hope you have some hot guy coming over to give you a sponge bath. And, hope you don't have lasting issues with walking, once you're healed.

A lot of people love New Orleans (and I do too) but I have been trapped there once in a hurricane (Ivan, the year before Katrina) and if we do New Orleans as late in hurricane season as we can manage is best.

I can't wait to move into my own place. I got "caught" yesterday buying more shoes. I threw the boxes in the tote and placed trash on top of them. Mother discovered them and tried to make me feel guilty for spending more money on shoes while needing to put so much in the new home. Thankfully, she didn't see the other shopping bags that I hid. I'll have to introduce a few things at a time.

I have the feeling NY prices may be out of many peoples league. That's why I wanted to give Philly and Denver a better shot. Not sure of the prices there but I can't imagine a NY hotel room in a decent location would cost less than $250. per night. Maybe I'm completely off base.
