Wich city would you move to?
« on: October 25, 2017, 03:54:02 pm »
Surprisingly to me, I still haven't moved out of the Tampa, FL area.  I had posted months ago that I was planning on moving to the Portland, OR area, but, I got scared and, here, I still remain.  I have been considering moving to other cities where I think I would feel comfortable being gay, having HIV and living off SSI, but, lamentably, I still haven't been able to make up my mind.
While I still make my decision, my question goes out to all of you: which city (from the ones I mention) would you move to if you have the chance, and why?

A. Las Vegas, NV
B. Portland, OR
D. Orlando, FL

Hi,

That is actually think of that all the time as well.

I would either go to Portland, OR or Orlando, FL.  I'm just thinking Las Vegas is too expensive and just not someplace I'd want to live.

On a side note I'd like to move to Salem, MA or the surrounding area.  Very gay friendly and just a great homey area.

If you had to take one off your list what would it be?

Wishing you the best.

Somewhere mountain retreaty, remote, with lots of tunnels and foxholes and woodland.Somewhere to raise chickens and goats and pigs and have solar panels.Somewhere to write strongly worded letters to the TIMES..somewhere to make a last stand.

Maybe the Caha mountains, south west cork or more ambitiously, the dream -Henry Miller country -  Big Sur,California

Time for bed..

Anywhere outside Britain really, but love cities like Berlin, Barcelona, Budapest, Baltimore, Vegas and LA.

Of course, I'll just stick in this insular, jumped up little country that thinks it's better than everyone else.

(not that I'm bitter about Brexit still or anything...)

All great cities I'm certain they all have their share of lgbtq communities but i think as far as feeling comfortable with your status, that's really and mostly on you regardless of the city you live in.. I mean like who goes around wearing a hat with their status on it? Trump supporters? Ha-ha  ;D joke

So since you live in Tampa I think Orlando is very close by, so that doesn't take too much effort to make that move if your budget is tight and you want to live somewhere that's like Mickey Mouse Tampa. Ha-ha another joke.

Vegas sounds fun, lots of drinking, gambling and sex.. but way too much fun, drinking, gambling and sex.. atleast what happens there, stays there.. ha-ha ;D .. I'd avoid this city if you have an addictive nature like I do, seriously.

Now Portland is the one I'd choose but you should consider it's weather bc some people get depressed when it rains so much.. not me, I love the rain ;).. I like Portland for all that is has to offer which I'm sure you know since you were interested. But it's still will have all the bullshit other cities have like Tampa.. swapping hurricanes for forrest fires and long over due eathquakes and volcanoes and that's not funny.

If you do decide on moving to Portland here's a link to a new clinic that you may find comfort in..
https://prismhealth.org

Sure would love to know what you decide..  apologies for the corny jokes.

Thanks to all of you who replied and provided some input.
And, thank you, Almost2late, for the referral to the HIV clinic in Portland, OR.

I have been in both Orlando and in Las Vegas in the past, but, I have never had the opportunity to visit Portland, OR. Due to stories I have heard about the beauty of the PNW, I am interested in that region. The farthest northwest (in the U.S.A.) I have gone to was San Francisco, CA where I lived for six years of my life. Due to various prominent reasons (one of them being the expensiveness of living there), I left SF over a decade ago.

I, also, lived in Los Angeles, CA for three years. My opinion of that region is that it is a very sprawling area with millions and millions of people. I did have fun while I lived there, and, I might consider moving back but not sure yet.

Las Vegas is one of my main options to move to for being gay-friendly, having good HIV services (from what I have heard) and being more affordable than California.

Orlando, FL is very close to the Tampa area and that's why I have it as a tentative choice for me to move to. I know it's a gay-friendly city (supposedly) and that it has good HIV services.

Due to my current income (SSI), I have to carefully consider any move for I wouldn't want to end up in a bad neighborhood.

To answer Kenneth's question: I would probably take Orlando, FL off the list.  :o

Thanks again for reading my post and replying.

ooops, sorry pozlatino..seems i was a bit more tired than i thought.Saw this thread as being off topic light hearted kinda thing.Apologies for any misunderstanding.

And i always thought Portland sounded good as it has a non-judgemental leftish kinda feel.

Best of luck.

Out of the list provided, I'd move to Vegas in a shot.

But then I like poker (have played in the World Series of Poker a few years back), big cars and free (comped) drinks

I often thought about this:
San Diego would be my first choice, but so expensive,
Nashville- as I play and love country music
Charleston SC

But I most likely will remain in Baltimore the city with the highest rate of bed 🐜 bugs

I actually love Baltimore and have been a few times. It is a down-to-earth place which reminds me of the blue-collar city I come from in the UK. Don't love bed bugs though obviously.

pozlatino - what kind of activities do you enjoy in a city?  what services and facilities do you appreciate?  public sports facilities - pools? parks? museums? libraries? culture of any kind? public colleges or other ways to continue learning and take interesting classes?

what about social opportunities?

maybe you should look for a smallish city with weather you might enjoy, that has good facilities for its citizens.

Out of the choices you listed, Las Vegas.  Plenty of things to do at the strip; I hardly gamble when in Vegas and usually enjoy going to the shows, concerts or dining out.  It’s close to L.A (where I lived for over 10 years) where you can visit, occasionally, whoever you want to for sightseeing— Hollywood, Griffith Park, museums, Chinatown, etc. I loved going to the beach, mainly, Venice Beach and Santa Monica Beach.

I'm gonna talk about my dream cities (Because in this moment I can't live abroad now because I don't have enough money  ;D and I do need pills to live everyday and I can't afford it by my own. LOL  ;D)
St. Petersburg, FL or Lincoln, Nebraska. USA
Ottawa, Ont. CA
Kyoto, Honshu. Japan

ya they have awesome recourses for people with hiv: free food stores fully stocked. free meds, dental, dr visits if you qualify based on income. lots of hiv doctors to chose from, free penn and teller tickets in april if you have hiv. aids walk. and other stuff for locals free shows, parking, strip club entry, 9 dollar steak and lobster every day with soup and sides, all you can eat buffets with a bunch of stuff including steak and crab legs for 15.

p.s. I use to live on the coast in cali and its crazy expensive all they got is the beach and better weather for 2 months a year, vegas has lake mead if I miss the beach
