Can I be HIV positive??

Hi guys, thanks for this excellent forum!

In June of 2017 I had unprotected vaginal intercourse with a questionable women, she probably had lots of partners. In April 2018 I again had unprotected vaginal intercourse, but with this women I was in a relationship with and I was only her third partner. Since these incidents I had about 15-20 negative Biosure rapid finger prick HIV tests because of anxiety I did lots of test, can I trust these results? Or is there a possibility that I can maybe have a HIV strain that the test doesn’t pick up or the test simply doesn’t work with my blood, something like that? Is there a possibility I can be HIV positive?

About a week ago I had a oral risk. I received a blow job and hand job from a women, she is probably HIV negative, but let’s assume she’s positive.

Taking my history into account, before this possible exposure I was HIV according to lots of Biosure rapid finger prick tests. If this women has HIV can I also now be infected? Because I had risk in the past and now again? Do I need futher testing?? Please advise?

You know HIV does not care about such matters and HIV is not a moral judgment. Its just a virus that can and does effect people from all backgrounds and walks of life.

Anyhow you have conclusively tested negative post the unprotected intercourse and getting a blowjob & handjob is simply not how HIV is transmitted. Move on with your life and, start using condoms & PrEP, that way you won't be panicking afterwards ! Do remember to test for far easier to acquire STI's.

If you keep having irrational fears regarding HIV than I would recommend speaking to a therapist face to face to help you move past them or learn to cope with your thoughts.

Here's what you need to know in order to avoid hiv infection:
Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, every time, no exceptions. Consider starting PrEP as an additional layer of HIV protection going forward.

Keep in mind that some sexual practices which may be described as ‘safe’ in terms of HIV transmission might still pose a risk for transmission of other STI's, so please do get fully tested regularly and at least yearly for all STI's including but not limited to HIV and test more frequently if unprotected intercourse occurs
Also note that it is possible to have an STI and show no signs or symptoms and the only way of knowing is by testing.

Yeah ... You have a conclusive negative result post the unprotected intercourse encounter mentioned here and getting your penis sucked was no HIV risk whatsoever.

Do test for easier to aquire STI's and start using condoms going forward

Hi Jim,

So yes I’m back with extensive fears. To be honest HIV is pretty much all that I think of. I’m worried out of my mind that I will be the first person on all of these blogs to test HIV positive after one blow job. I’ve started to read treatment threads and so on. May I just add, hats off to everyone living with hiv, it cannot be easy!

It’s now basically 3 weeks post my oral activity and I’ve developed a sore throat and possibly swollen lymph nodes, a bit flu like symptoms. Is this ARS? My boss has a bad case of the flu and I’m constantly in his presence, maybe I got it from him. I even had the lady do a finger prick test which came back negative. She said the last time she had a sexual encounter of any sort was in the beginning of December and she only gave the guy also a bj. I tried every interrogation technique to find out if she if lying but she sticks to her story and said she is telling the truth. I’m not sure what to believe anymore, I’m stressed out of my mind.

Is there even a 0,1% chance I can be HIV positive from only this exposure?? Please be honest? I did a rapid finger prick test 2 weeks post exposure but this was probably useless. Do I need to have another test sometime? This whole experience has given me so much anxiety that I doubt I will ever do any sexual activity with anyone in the future.

You had no exposure from getting your penis sucked or licking a vagina.

So if you ever aquire HIV it would not be from this.

As Jim said, do get tested for other things even if you are HIV negative.   I got HIV 10 years ago from repeated unprotected sex with a woman whose history I knew nothing about.   Get tested and relax or, God forbid, get tested and get whatever treatment is needed.   

Not to be judgmental but if some behaviors carry risks that aren't acceptable to you, or make you feel uneasy, then you should avoid them.

Getting your penis sucked is not a HIV risk, it lacks exposure to viable HIV as saliva is not HIV infectious, not only that but saliva also contains over a dozen elements that neutralize HIV by damaging the receptors needed to infect. This activity also lacks a few other conditions needed to acquire HIV and hence it makes perfect sense that nobody has ever been infected this way and, you will not be defying this as a worlds first magical transmission case either.   

I am sorry that you have this fear, I mean that as living in fear is terrible, however its not rational if what you posted is true. I hope you can put this behind you or if not than seek some face to face help to help you cope with your fears so you can move on. Now if you had some other risk or sexual encounter that you are not mentioning here or incorrectly are dismissing then by all means speak up & go test but otherwise its time to move on with your life!

Finally so were very clear on the subject, you did not acquire HIV from the activities you posted here and no matter how great your distress, fear or feelings I am unwilling to pretend what you posted is a HIV risk. It would be a major disservice to people living with HIV and the community reading this, I hope you understand that.

So please do not ask about this no-risk scenario again, and enjoy the wedding, remember to use condoms for intercourse, test yearly out of standard routine.

Hi Jim, thanks again for the response! I can’t explain how much it means. Everything I’ve posted is the truth, my anxiety and fears is unfortunately not made up, believe it or not but for the past 3 weeks I strongly believed I’m hiv positive. This was the only incident that I was worried about, I was 100% honest in my post. Well I rubbed her vagina as well with no cuts present on my vingers... But even with my fears I don’t see how I can get hiv this way.

So yes all in consideration I think I need to see a professional because of all my anxiety, because at this stage I would not take the chance to even kiss someone because of the fear of hiv. Which is really not healthy Thanks again Jim

Now that I think back she said she was on her period that time, but I didn’t see any blood on my finger while rubbing her vagina on the outside. My fingers didn’t penetrate her fully, maybe half of my finger were inside her. I don’t think there were any cuts present on my finger. If there were a small cut it was most certainly not bleeding. I take it this still makes my scenario NO RISK??

Fingering is not a HIV concern.

If this and getting a BJ have been your only sexual activities than HIV simply can not be an issue.

If you are sick than go treat whatever is making you sick.

It has nothing to do with HIV from the activities mentioned here, as we have already explained it is simply not possible for you to acquire HIV that way.

My apologies I really didn’t mean to post excessively, I think for me making peace that this incident that I described was not a HIV risk is really difficult because I have been really really anxious about it for 3 weeks. I will do my best to move on and forget out it! Oh yes and see a GP regarding my flu.

Hi Jim,

Please don’t consider this as excessive posting as I think this is a valid point I’m raising. On the Body.com I read this morning that they consider receiving oral sex, a bj, as extremely low risk and that the don’t recommend testing after such an exposure, such a person that received a bj would just have to test yearly out of routine. This in my eyes means that you probably won’t get HIV from receiving a bj but there still is a change so you must test when you are scheduled to test next?
This statement is from a HIV specialist. Why would he say this if the risk is literally 0%?? I don’t seem to understand why don’t all Dr’s say it’s a 0% risk if you guys and many other forums says it lacks the Biological factors for HIV to transmitted?

They also say about 80% of people with HIV will have ars symptoms that include swollen lymph nodes for about 2 weeks. And my lymph nodes feels that they are swollen for the past week or so...

If you want to worry about theoretical risks understand the context of what would be required. In your case well If you had stabbed her in the face requiring urgent medical care or beat her to a bloody plup requiring urgent medical care and instead of calling an ambulance as she was half bleeding to death you stuck your penis in her face .... Than maybe in theory

That however simply did not happen and my risk assessments are based on you guys not being a Hannibal Lecter wannabe 

We have explained in depth that nobody has ever been infected this way and the reasons why it's never happened inculding the bilogical barriers to this being a concern.

So I stand by my assessment, it's never happened and you will not be making global medical news & history anytime soon ! If you don't accept my assessment based on facts and instead want to stress about fantasy that is fully up to you.

Prehaps you should seek a therapist to help you cope with your irrational fears instead of searching the internet for bad information out of context that simply does not apply to you!
