Need advice
« on: October 29, 2016, 10:30:24 pm »
Hello,

I was diagnosed with HSV in my early 20's and most recently HPV. I am now 35 and am I straight male. It's been a few years since my last HIV test and I do practice safe sex with a condom most of the time(have been a few slips where I haven't and feel so stupid for that). I've experienced a handful of outbreaks with the HSV in the 13 yrs I've had it and have not had an outbreak for years at least not one that was visible. I've never had sex while having an outbreak but my question is could you still get HIV if you have HSV but don't have any sores present without Protection? I suffer from severe health anxiety and have always thought that I have had HIV. I'm extremely nervous to get tested but am working up the courage to just bite the bullet and go so I can move on with my life and stop living in fear. I thank you in advance for your advice and knowledge

Hi , Unprotected intercourse is risk for HIV , herpes or not.
The only way to know your status is to test, you can do this at 6 weeks past exposure and again at 13 for a conclusive result.

Best, Wade

To avoid infection,
You need to be using condoms for all anal and vaginal intercourse until you are in a trusting monogamous relationship and both have been tested for all STIs and HIV.
Everyone who is sexually active should have an annual exam and test for all STIs and HIV ,and always after unprotected intercourse. Always using condoms will give you peace of mind your tests will return with a negative result.
