Does soy/tofu decrease testosterone? Unhealthy?
« on: June 18, 2008, 07:31:24 pm »

Tofu seems like an awesome alternative to get my protein.  But the reports of lowered testosterone freak me out.  Is this true?

I would like to have 100g+ of soy protein per day, but I don't want to put myself at risk either.

Soy products contain chemicals called "phyto-estrogens" which in very large doses can, it is thought, have a feminising effect on men. I doubt very much that consuming a sensible quantity of dietary soy will affect your testosterone levels.

HIV infection can adversely impact on testosterone levels so you might want to discuss this with your doctor.

The greatest issue I see with eating tofu and similar products is the revolting taste and texture. Like snot soaked in old dishwater. But to each his own.

the little one has not had my chocolate-espresso tofu brownies!  Sure, there's a double-buzz hook to them, but they are far more moist and rich than any flour brownie I have ever eaten or baked.  Chocolate soy milk is also Da Bomb over flax cereal with raspberries.
