What Would Jesus Eat?
« on: July 08, 2006, 10:30:01 pm »
I picked up this book at my grandmother's house, and while it's preachy, well, it's an easy read and very interesting/informative.  It has educated me on the whole wheat/gluten allergy thing, and looks like it's going to wind up commanding me to eat a Mediterranean diet.

I'm not sure if I can give up the unclean bacon.  I'll give up the fried rabbit when my other grandmother passes away, unless my cousin snags the recipe, then it will only be once or twice a year.

Seriously, it is very compelling to me, especially since I recently read Anne Rice's Christ the Lord: Out of Egypt.

Ya Ive heard of this one and a very similar one called the' Biblical Diet', which is the most 'original' idea in dieting that Ive seen in awhile. Its basicly just a diet consisting of the foods that were eaten in biblical times , lots of unprocessed grains, dried fruits, olive oil, lamb, fish, etc all of which are pretty healthy, lean and loaded with important nutrients  It would be a great gift for the devout and diet conscious , perhaps for Christmas.
I heard that the concept of 'Unclean' foods came about- rightly so- due to the lack of preservation or refrigeration for foods.  Pork being at the top of the list due to Trichinosis and lots of other nasty parasites.
Alot of Kosher butchering practices are actually simply for good sanitation ( except maybe for that whole Oral suction Circumcision thing but I aint going THERE)
So given this thought I seriously Doubt that we'd see J.C. at KFC, B.K. or Micky D's.
I mean seriously given the Consumer Gluttony and Corporate Greed and General disregard for everything in Creation involved, Would Jesus Super Size It ???

Despite all his magical powers, I guess god didn't fill him in on mother nature:

12 And on the morrow, when they were come from Bethany, he was hungry: 13 And seeing a fig tree afar off having leaves, he came, if haply he might find any thing thereon: and when he came to it, he found nothing but leaves; for the time of figs was not yet. 14 And Jesus answered and said unto it, No man eat fruit of thee hereafter for ever. And his disciples heard it.
Matthew 21:18,19

One of the more infamous passages in the gospels involves Jesus’ cursing of a fig tree for not having any fruit for him despite the fact that it wasn’t even the season for fruit.
I also never got the whole unclean animal thing with pigs- you would think a divine entity couldn't make such a thing or wonder why it was done.
I think I wil stay with a nutritionist.
Cheers

There are some people in my little Bible Belt town who are on the "Bible diet".

I think what they need to realize is that in those times, everyone WALKED everywhere they went....there probably were no grossly overweight people.

This town LOVES an all-you-can-eat buffet.   Doesn't matter if the food's any good, as long as there's plenty of it!
