Welcome to the "Do I Have HIV?" POZ forum.

This special section of the POZ forum is for individuals who have concerns about whether or not they are HIV positive. Individuals are permitted to post up to three questions or responses in this forum.

Ongoing participation in the "Do I Have HIV?" forum (posting more than three questions or responses) requires a paid subscription, with secure payments made via PayPal.

A seven-day subscription is $9.99, a 30-day subscription is $14.99 and a 90-day subscription is $24.99.

HIV and Truvada/Prep

Hi there. I am a man who has sex with men. I usually take daily prep for an extra layer of protection, despite using condoms on anal intercourse (but not on oral sex). I decided to stop prep because i wasn't planning on have sex for a while.

After a few weeks i met this guy and one thing led to another faster than i planned and we had sex. He sucked me without a condom and he topped me with a condom. I think the condom remained intact the whole time. He also licked my anus and fingered me.  So i returned home 30 minutes after and since i became worried because i don't know his hiv status i decided to take 2 pills (like in the 2-1-1 scheme) and i am planning on taking more tomorrow and the day after. I am also considering doing a 28-day scheme, like the one for PEP.

Now i know that 2-1-1 scheme would require me to take the pills at least 2 hours before sex and not 30 minutes after sex. I also know that the 28-day PEP scheme usually requires 3 drugs and not 2 only. And i also know i used a condom on anal intercourse and only he sucked me. What i want to know is if i had any risk whatsoever for HIV, if taking the pills for 28 days reduces my HIV risk (assuming that there's a small chance of risk) and if you have any other advice. Should i go to the hospital? Thank you.

Hiya

Receiving a blowjob, rimming and fingering is no HIV risk to you.

As for the intercourse, HIV can't transmit through an intact latex or polyurethane condom. If a condom fails during the act of intercourse, it's obvious. There is no reason to stress or test outside of the standard yearly routine as long as this obvious issue did not happen.

I'm not even going to recommend testing over this let alone PEP or pretend it will help for a non-existent risk.

My only additional advice is keep using condoms and start taking PrEP again. Reading your post I am guessing PrEP will provide you with at least peace of mind in the future even when you have no real HIV risk.

As part of the PrEP routine test frequently for HIV & easier to aquire STI's, every 3 months if possible.
