There are no random/fabulous/tweets/posts. This is my random post to say the off topic forum has lost it's mojo. Are all the random/fabulous posters lurking due to a warning? Will they return? Are they traveling to AMG? Are they moving? Are they glad they did/did not apologize? I'm away for 11 hours and all the new posts relate to pets or Spanish songs/travel plans. Do I need to renew my gym membership/Hulu plus subscription? This is very text heavy and unlike me. I did not receive as many vines as I was hoping for. Shall I take down my Carlos Danger avatar? Does this reek of desperation? Will 80 people read this and no one reply?

Love that song.
my randy and I were the original PSB LOL
we opened our pet shop in 1985, a year before "Please"
I love their new album "Electric" - but then I've loved everything they ever put out so I guess I'm really no judge of the PSB. LOL However, I take that back. I wasn't very fond of "Elysium". Although it had a few moments, it was just too slow and definitely not "Behavior"

I watched Cat on a Hot Tin Roof last night. Poor Brick and Maggie, both so beautiful and unfulfilled.... em which boils down to being "unfilled" :o
(http://img2.timeinc.net/people/i/2011/news/110404/paul-newman-440.jpg)
What struck me this viewing was how much Big Daddy (in the film version at least) loves Brick, and Brick is a whining prick claiming Big Daddy never loved him..
But, you just gotta go with the historic moment...
Tonight I'm going to watch Baby Doll (1956) another steamy flick based on a Tennessee Williams play.

“The revolting theme of this picture, Baby Doll, and the brazen advertising promoting it constitute a contemptuous defiance of the natural law, the observance of which has been the source of strength in our national life” Cardinal Francis Spellman of New York
In August I get to watch some of my favorite summer movies, that seem best on hot August nights, like: A Place in the Sun, A Summer Place, Bonjour Tristesse, Boom, Sunset Boulevard, Cabin in the Sky etc.

Armless torsos - no neck Monsters.....I get it.....Elizabeth was so ethereal and so was Montgomery Clift. Talk about summer movies - how about "Suddenly Last Summer"...lobotomies and cannibalism - you can't beat that for a combo!

But KathArine Hepburn is in it and I hate most of her performances. Taylor is twisted fun in that film, I'll give you that! Clift is rather monstrous, post-accident. He sounds like Peter Lorre, or Quasimodo.

If I remember correctly, Miss P recommends the Daryl Hannah Peter Gallagher "Summer Lovers" 1982. It is pretty amazing.
This Motels song came out in 1983. The video has kind of the same look.

Tennessee Williams died the month the Motels went into the studio to record this album.

I saw Hellraiser lurking here today but he still hasn't responded to say if that is his butt in the photograph in the men's room.
I realized later that the photograph above does not depict Susan Hayward in the Electric Chair. She is in the gas chamber.
I hope it is not gas emitted by someone who is a Vegan! God those farts stink. Ask Chelsea Handler......

Here's something random--- Why do some states use yellow traffic lights, while others use black? Indiana uses yellow, while Kentucky uses black. I would guess you would notice yellow more, so you would be less likely to run a traffic light, because you didn't even notice it was there. But, I could see where you'd be more likely to notice the light colors in a black traffic light.
I think I like yellow better. I always wanted one, after seeing Ricky Schroder's on "Silver Spoons."

I met my ex-husband, a Brit, in Ohio (way back in '84). British traffic lights are usually on the side of the road, rather than suspended in the middle of intersections. He constantly ran red or amber lights (due to expecting the lights to be on the side) and it got to the point where I refused to not be the one driving when we were going somewhere together. Too many close calls for my liking! I used to hate it when he was late getting home - it was too easy to imagine that his traffic-light-blindness got him into an accident.
He was just finally getting used to looking for the lights in the middle of intersections when we moved across the pond. Thankfully, there aren't many traffic lights on the Rock so it wasn't the big problem it was in the States. There's not even a single one in the town I live in, they're mostly in the capitol.
Hell, we only got our first round-about around ten years ago! The joys of semi-rural living....
Oh and Ted, our traffic lights (on the side of the road) are yellow. I can't recall for sure what they were in the two States I lived in, Ohio and New York, but I think they were also yellow.

No one is currently on a warning. Warnings are actually fairly rare around here - I'm not sure how you got the idea that we're constantly warning people. At least that's the feeling I get from some of your posts (that you think we're constantly warning people). I can give you a "watched" sticker for a few days if you're feeling left out. ;D ;)
Maybe folks are just out enjoying the summer in the real world? Dunno.

In a class in high school we watched Raintree County with Elizabeth Taylor and Montgomery Clift. Our teacher went on and on about how she was deeply in love with him and he broke her heart when he told her he liked men. Our teacher was male, but I think he liked men, too. I don't know if either of those things are true, just something to add.
FWIW, I always wondered if the ruins of her character's plantation was a real site or movie back-lot. The shot of the overgrown formal garden with the urn at its center intrigued me. If it was movie back-lot, someone went to a lot of work for a 10-second wide-shot of the overgrowth.

When I was on my road trip with Jan and Jen they expressed how disconcerting it was for them some time when we were driving and I would suddenly slow down and stop at an intersection . They too are used to stop lights on the side of the motor and it was throwing them into confusion wondering why I felt the need to suddenly stop in the roadway .
I also have this thing in my bag of tricks where I close my eye on the passenger side and kind of let my mouth hang open and head wobble just a little bit . That never fails to get a reaction .

In 2000 I taught a class in a Swiss boarding school which included several of the first wave of rich Chinese students in Switzerland. We read and watched The Talented Mr. Ripley. (Damon, Law AND Paltrow were so young and beautiful!) Suddenly they erupted into a passionate debate about whether Ripley is gay or not. The Euros were completely blaisé but I guess it was the first time the Chinese felt free to discuss such things in school.
I usually hold back giving my opinions about people, politicians, actors, artists, etc, and about fictional characters, because its better for them to hash it out with each other.
I remember when I was in 5th or 6th grade in the early 70's, we were watching some sort of science film about the evolution of the human body, or something, and there was a sexy muscle guy and I asked the teacher - "do men still have bodies like that?" because i hadn't really seen any around. Rather, I guess my testosterone was just kicking in and it was the first time I really noticed! She smiled and winked and said "Of course they do!"

That would take getting use to-- traffic lights on the side, while driving from our passenger seat, and driving on the wrong side of the road. I mean opposite side. ;)
I have it on my bucket list to drive a car in the U.K. Pretty boring, huh? I'm trying to remember what other countries have the driver's seat on our passenger side, and also drive opposite side of street from us. Every once in a blue moon, you'll see a right-side steering wheel on a car here. You see it everyday in the post office jeeps.
Here is something random-- I've noticed here in the states, we tend to walk airports, sidewalks, grocery store aisles, etc, as if we were driving. We walk on the right side. Do folks in the U.K. do the opposite?
-

Yes, we do.
The first time I drove in the UK - in a car made for the UK - I was surprised at how natural it was to drive on the left-hand side. It felt right correct to drive on the other side when you're sitting on the other side.
BUT - when we moved to the Rock, we shipped our American car over because at the time, we couldn't have bought a second-hand car in the same condition (it was pretty new) for less than or equal to the price of having it shipped.
Now that was interesting - driving on the left in an American car. It was next to impossible to overtake unless you had a passenger with you who could tell you what was ahead. And intersections could be really confusing.
For years I would go to the wrong side of a car - getting in the drivers side when I was going to be a passenger and visca-versa when driving. I lost count of the times when I was alone and got into the passenger side and wondered where the steering wheel went. ::)
I haven't had a car in about fifteen years now and I've finally got it down and always go for the passenger side. You really can teach an old dog new tricks! ;D
I also have this thing in my bag of tricks where I close my eye on the passenger side and kind of let my mouth hang open and head wobble just a little bit . That never fails to get a reaction .

Here is a random question. If a human is decapitated, how long (if at all) does the brain still function? Before someone thinks I am up to no good, I ask, after a news station posted this video of a decapitated snake biting its own body. Many were dumbfounded why a news station would post such a thing. While I am sure it was for the shock value, I suppose it is a lesson that a very venomous snake can still bite you, after you chop it up. I suppose the snake's brain wasn't really functioning, and this was just an automatic response, from nerves still alive?
As you can imagine, this is not for the squeamish. While they don't show the head being decapitated, it can still be gruesome to some. Fair warning. While I'm sure I am also engaging in shock value, I think it is biologically interesting. I just hope it was killed to prevent a bite on someone's property, and not just killed out in the woods, where it could have just been avoided.

LOL yep! We have two new ones in my town. They're both on a main road at the outskirts of town where two new housing estates are being built. They're ridiculously huge for the area and the traffic, even when taking the new houses into consideration.
The only other round-about in town is a teeny-tiny one that's just a circle painted on the road. It replaced a stop-sign that everyone ignored. Now everyone ignores the circle instead. ;D

People kill cottonmouths and copperheads on their property. Sometimes its feasible to call Animal Control, sometimes that is not an option, for various reasons. I had cousins who routinely decapitated cottonmouths but only on their property -- nobody was going into the woods searching.
Upstate we had copperheads but they were rare. In my youth only saw two in the woods around the quarries. Twice in 15 years copperheads came into the neighbourhood, and were removed by animal control.
If I lived in the South by water with cottonmouths coming up near the house, and I had kids, Id move. If I couldn't move, I'd decapitate any cottonmouth, sorry to say.

If you let a snake go on its way there is a high probability you will never see that snake again ... so why kill it ? . Killing a snake only makes you feel safer but the true result is the senseless death of a reptile that plays an important role in the ecosystem .

Perhaps a Dean Koontz book?
By the pool, I just finished a Koontz book yesterday - Odd Apocalypse. I've really like the Odd Thomas series.
Sadly, on one hand, I think I'm attracted to the books by Oddie's loss of Stormy. I believed I was destined to be with my two partners forever, so I'm looking to see how Odd reconciles not being together with Stormy (Stupid Gypsy Mummy! LOL) until they are both dead. The character Odd Thomas has quite often told us in these books that these stories wouldn't be published until after he was dead; so I'm expecting Koontz to eventually write about Odd's death - and maybe the reunion with Stormy.
I'm okay with stories, movies and videos where couple reunite after death; but it pisses me off anytime someone gets to see their dead partner come back to life or reappear as a spirit (like in that damned movie Ghost)
oh and Chekov, the new Chekov in the Abrams reboot of trek, plays odd thomas, in a movie that hasn't been released because of studio issues (sorta like what happened with ""i love you phillip morris")

I can not be tempted to click on any links where there is live action of a python eating a puppy, small pig or monkey. I saw those links when I was searching too.
I forgot about the Odd Thomas books. He lives in like Albuquerque or somewhere and travels in tunnels? His landlord is like Elvis's love child or something?
I regret that fact that I didn't realize Dean Koontz strikes a lot of chords. I think he put out some really bad ones early on and I happened to pick one of those up first. Maybe I'll put my name in at the library for the new one and some old ones....
I did like "The Time Traveler's Wife" but she meets her husband after he is dead because he visits. I heard the movie was not the same quality.
-
Ah, well my links were FRIENDLY. One is to Kar in Disney's Jungle Book. The other (15 million) is to the fabulous Debra Paget dancing with a cobra in one of Fritz Lang's indian epics...

Pico Mundo, New Mexico, where he's a fry cook - that sees dead people, and is psychically attached to dangerous super-natural-y sort of things.

some of them are horrible, some are wonderful. but i've read them all
I come from a family of readers and it's nothing to rip through 4-7 books a week. At that rate, I usually read through all the newest fiction AND non-fiction each month, while going through numerous mystery and sci-fi writers who have series and series of books.
I did like "The Time Traveler's Wife" but she meets her husband after he is dead because he visits. I heard the movie was not the same quality.
that's one of my MOST favorite books. (I've read it just a couple more times than the half dozen times I read Bob Smith's "Selfish and Perverse" ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bob_Smith_(comedian) ). I've cried every time I've read Time Traveler's Wife. Henry's last couple of time-jumps and leaving Clare just kills me. And the movie was just as bad! I mean good. The movie was just as good as the book at making me cry and that was bad. LOL
of course, the trek connection with this is that Eric Bana (aka out-of-time Henry in TTTW) plays Nero (the out-of-time Romulan) in 2009's Trek, the first movie of Abrahm's reboot.
this trek connection game is better than 6 degrees of bacon LOL

have I ever mentioned there are some movies I just can't pass up. Even though they're filled with commercials anymore, when they play on TV, I get trapped into them - Grease, Little Shop of Horrors, Independence Day, Time Travelers Wife, Armageddon etc
well Time Traveler's wife is on now. He has shown up shot, and she wants a baby. But there's Alba! Now she's with old Henry but doing it with young Henry. It's still about 30 minutes before I end up crying.

I cry when I watch movies on airplanes. Even bad or schmaltzy and cheaply tear-jerking ones.
At home I cry rarely to films.
At the cinema, sometimes.
Two films that always make me cry are The Fifth Element and Howards End.
Its beautiful/sad when Leeloo is dying and needs love to save the world. (It helps that the film is gorgeous, as are Jovovich and yes even Willis in this film). What happens next is crudely old fashioned shlock movie symbolism but also incredibly effective and moving and I start balling.
In Howards End, the whole subplot of the seduction and destruction of Leonard Bast is a great theme in literature and its so gorgeously rendered cinematically, I cry for the character in most of his situations because he's beautiful and he's in over his head. His character calls up all the emotions I attached to all these characters in all those books read over so many years...
-
The Fifth Element is a brilliant film. It knows exactly what it is and the actors know exactly what they are doing. It pushes all the right buttons at the right times.

The Fifth Element was a French production and its a shame the French didn't continue making a stab at this sort of film, internationally appealing action blockbuster, to compete with Hollywood. Hollywood summer tentpoles are pretty weak sauce these years. It could use competition from France, China, Asia, India, and why not South America?

The crush was on the character Leonard? Or the cutie Sam West in the movie? or both?
Holden Caufield is a cynical screwup. But he's honest and I guess I pictured him as as possibly sexy but tortured, hetero preppie.
Did you hear that Colbert named Salinger for his next Book Club? But Catcher is excluded...
His Gatsby Book Club episode wasn't all that interesting. Speaking of, Nick Carraway was a romantic appealing character for me as a teenager.

Third gender option on German birth certificates: "A new German law stipulates that children who are born of indeterminate gender no longer have to be categorized as 'male"' or 'female.' Instead, parents can choose to leave the space blank on their child's birth certificate, according to German newspaper Süddeutsche Zeitung. Those individuals can eventually decide whether to identify as male, female or neither."

Pennsylvania: Mistaken Identity at Funeral
A Philadelphia woman has turned up alive nearly two weeks after her family held a funeral and burial for her. Services for Sharolyn Jackson, 50, were held on Aug. 3. Carrie Minney, Ms. Jackson’s mother, said the woman in the coffin looked identical to her daughter, except for the nose; she says the family assumed something happened to it during the embalming process. But Ms. Jackson showed up at a mental health facility in Philadelphia last week. A spokesman for the Philadelphia Department of Health said Ms. Jackson’s son and a social worker who knows her had viewed photographs of a woman’s body and identified it as hers. The body that was buried will be exhumed in hopes of identifying it.

of all the people that post regularly on these boards I'm probably the only one significantly under the age of 40.
btw, I don't think 37 qualifies as "significantly under" the age of 40.

A "professional gentleman" looking for a "worthy and deserving girl" in Antelope Valley, CA seems to have no comprehension of dating etiquette -- or grammar.
In his Craigslist posting, the gentleman in question asks interested women to email him directly if they want more information about him.
IF YOU WANT A RESPONSE, please E-mail (1) your name, (2) your email address, (3) your location (city), (4) your age, (5) your ethnicity and (6) your current & clear photo (within the last 3 months). CURRENT means how you look "today," NOT "yesterday."[/font]
1. "NOTE: I WILL TEST YOU early in the first communications/interactions between us to know if you are real, honest, motivated, serious, etc. Please take this as a fair and friendly prior warning. "
2. "Regardless of the age you tell me, don't be surprised if I ask to see your ID or Birth Certificate to verify."
3. "I also find that most girls tell me they are a 'Good Girl' too or 'Worthy and Deserving' but often that's not the case either."
4. "Relationships are like a full time 'JOB.' It's NOT 'EASY.'"
5. "This also includes the 'possibility' of marriage."
6. "Trust me, I am not like your ex-boyfriend or husband. I'm much better."
7. "Tell me something about yourself that I or other men cannot $$ PURCHASE $$ for a few dollars off the street and you will have my attention. "
8. "I'm in my 30's (Between 30-39). I won't tell you my exact age until we meet so don't ask beforehand."

No, you need to go eat some food though. Seriously darling, start throwing back a 40g protein shake every day.

I eat well. I eat all day long. Even though I am underweight, it's all in the gut and nothing in my limbs.
Actually my average weight thoughout my adult life falls between 120lbs (in my early 20's) and 150 lbs (during the first year being with Kenny). He cooked a lot of fatty meals.
My comfort zone for the past 15 years to not feel bloated is 133 to 140lbs.
Just a small boned tall (relatively) skinny guy.
That being said, I want my 4 year deduction!
-
Losing weight makes your penis appear longer. Just sayin'.

5'11"

I can honestly say I've never lost sight of mine. :)
-
5'11"
Wow, I weigh more than you do.
-
I am also a tall slim guy. I used to hate it because there was a time when literally nothing not even Big Macs pizzas & super size fries would cause me to gain weight. When I reached about 25 I finally started putting on some muscle in my arms. I also started playing basketball for fun & learned to embrace my lankiness lol. I am 5'11 and a half & 170-ish now. I'm happy with myself at this weight. But I still feel somewhat awkward at times because I have huge feet but I feel better about myself now than I ever have. My arm span is longer than my height by 2 inches but long arms have their advantages :)
If I do put weight on, it would tend to be my belly, and nowhere else. So I try and do 5-100 situps a day or every other day, and I don't have a six-pack but I am keeping the belly fat off by that and running laps on court. Probably the meds contribute slightly to the belly fat which I have heard. I take Atripla but I think it is the best in terms of not causing major fat redistribution.
I was picked on relentlessly in high school for being tall and slim, and at times I am still self conscious about it. But I have also found that many guys like it.
For me it is genetics all the guys in my family are tall & slim and most played basketball. I had to learn how to balance myself eating things I love like pizza & Italian food and also good things like protein shakes every day to help me maintain muscle. I'm never gonna be Fabio but eh, I don't care. I'm just gonna embrace my lankiness & come what may ;)
-
I'm 5'11" too and I don't really consider that tall. It's only 1/2" above the US average for someone of European ancestry.

Just wondering if we need to subtract any years or add any years. You posed the question so fess up.

yes, so that puts you at what...67?

No, according to the US military (http://usmilitary.about.com/od/army/l/blmaleweight.htm) I am 10 lbs under what even a 20 year old should be and 22 lbs under for someone over 40 y.o. (I weigh 175lbs, and I'm also really more 5'11" 1/2
You, on the other hand, would be kicked out as a risk for osteoporosis. I'm surprised your doctor doesn't fret about you being that weight. When I went down to 140 lbs. I was slapped with an official diagnosis of HIV wasting and given high-fives by the ladies down the downtown Brooklyn Social Security offices. There may have even been some twerking.
-

Oh shit, now height comes into it. 5'10.5" is the US average?! I used to pride myself that it was 5'8". (Crying in my beer...)
At least there's Tom Cruise. Oh wait, bad example because he not gay. He's NOT!!!
Well screw it. At least being..ahem...short makes your dick look big.

Um, I think you read that chart wrong. The weight figures that you mention are the MAX weight limits not the ideal weights. The minimum weight for 5'11" is 136 lbs. I'm at 140 lbs. now so I would qualify.
I have no plans on joining the military in any case. My guess is that they would be rolling on the floor if either one of us showed up. ;)

Because I'm really "and 1/2" I used 6 ft and 175lbs. and it says I am in the normal range, with a BMI of 23.7 but it would also show that with 5'11" so I don't know what sort of crack Kenny has you smoking this morning.
All I know is that I can wear fitted clothing and look neither fat nor like a skeleton. When I weighed 140 I looked like a concentration camp victim.

Wut?
Um, at 5'11", 175lbs. your BMI is 24.4
This is the normal weight range for someone who is 5'11". (not 6' 10 years ago):

This would put you within 4 lbs. of being overweight.
I am 7 lbs. away from being underweight.

BMI was never designed for use as an individual indicator of obesity, you know. It's used to metadata and even then you gotta factor in the population.

Always remember that emaciated Barbara Hutton's (Woolworth heiress) daily diet consisted of 20 bottles of Coca-Cola with spirits (usually vodka), intravenous megavitamin shots mixed with amphetamines, a soybean compound, cigarettes, and a cocktail of drugs, including codeine, Valium, and morphine.
She went to her grave as Princess Raymond Doan Vinh Na Champassak, the wife of a nobody.

Speaking of Matthew McConaughey being 5'11" -- IIRC he dropped to 135-140 lbs. for his AIDS-ey flick coming out in two months. Nice look, dontchathink?

It's my understanding that the AIDSee look is back in vogue. I get all the current info from my young gay nephew who recently moved to LA. He also indicates that tight hip huggers are back. GOOD GOD - NO! What's next? Cut off jeans shorts with excessive fringe?
PS, Matthew's body is hot in that pic but the face doesn't compute.
-
There were many pics of Matthew shooting that film and it was almost as frightening as Christian Bale in The Machinist.
Needless to say (but I guess we don't agree in this thread), both actors are hunks and look their best with the weight, in full ripe masculine bloom.
Skinny is hot too, but it tends to be sexy on guys who are just naturally skinny. Drugs, aids, gimmicky actor weight loss - this is a sexy look???
I think people look hottest when it looks like they are fit, confident, and about at their natural set point.
Also, tall, and broad, and hunky and mature. This is a universal win, isn't it?

Since Wentworth Miller (Prison Break) came out, some have delighted in making fun of his weight gain. I like him trim, but I also like a little junk in the trunk. I wouldn't throw him out of bed now. I look more like the way he does now. When googling pics of him, it is clear where the gain came from. In half the pics, he is carrying various Starbucks drinks. Those are loaded with calories. I began to think he was being paid by Starbucks. There were just so many of him carrying one.
On a side note-- How does one afford $500 a day for coke? Were you selling your body to rich women?

Plus this loaner doesn't have the programs I need to work. And deliver some projects THIS week. And its such a loser excuse to shop around to people who are going to be waiting and ANGRY.
Good news, these are first world problems, finally. So be it.
I have been one computer person now for 2 years, maybe that was a poor decision? I can't deliver most of my multimedia lessons next week, for example...
Striking depedency on habitual workflow, and one dedicated system and machine... I suppose I could steal and install the programmes I need, but Im not good at that and it would be a dumb thing to do on a pc and a school pc at that. Rock. Hard place... Hopefully next week tech help at school will find me a mac loaner.... But there are few of them, and they are always out on loan...
Oh heres a bullshit irony. The tech help managers are ALL on macs, and yet the school only "officially" supports pcs...

Since I'm bored-- Does Ryan Seacrest want to take over all of TV and radio? He has Idol, the radio show, gave us the Kardashians, was on the Today Show, does the New Years Eve show, and now has a new game show on NBC.
I thought I was Seacrest safe, when I was watching "PBS-- Pioneers In Television." It is a series about TV series and genres. I was watching the Night Soaps and Super Hero episodes, online. Well, damn if he wasn't the narrator. Is he working 24/7 to run from something? Isn't he worried about being over exposed?
Ok, Seacrest out.

I think Ryan Seacrest was created in a lab from an old skin biopsy from Dick Clark .

Who knows, maybe he wants an empire and billions, like Oprah. He's well on his way.....
I would guess with an enormous staff and production office, they manage to keep his time commitments quite reasonable and can spread him over as many programs as will be successful.
Merv Griffin had his empire and his billions.

Seacrest opened NBC's NFL game tonight. When I think of football, I think of him. I guess he isn't worried about being over exposed.

Ryan Seacrest's net worth is estimated to be $230 million. He probably doesn't need to worry too much about it.

Seattle Libraries to Porn Watchers: Come on In!
When is watching graphic sex movies in public, or near kids, an acceptable thing to do? Let’s see.
You can’t legally show porn in your house that can be seen from a park or playground. You of course can’t show it to kids. You can’t watch it at work, unless you want to get fired or sued. And you can’t watch on your iPad on a plane, or the gym, without expecting some outraged person to tell you to shut it down.
But in Seattle, there’s one place where you can watch porn in public, in view of others, and around kids, and no one official will bother you: The library. To be specific, the 27 branches of the Seattle Public Library.
Potholes and stinky feet are not OK, but public porn watching is
That’s true, says Vanderburg. But she likened library porn to potholes. When someone complains about potholes, a nuisance and public-safety risk, the city fixes them, she said. But when someone complains about public porn – a risk for kids and often grounds for a hostile environment in a workplace – the city looks the other way, she said.
“If a child tripped on a broken piece of sidewalk on Beacon Hill, or a car blew a tire because of a pothole, the city of Seattle would fix it,” Vanderburg said.
The Library also has a long list of rules of things you can’t do in its buildings, to ensure “comfort and safety” of staff and patrons. You can’t eat, sleep, look like you’re sleeping, be barefoot, be too stinky, or talk too loudly. But you can watch graphic porn on a public computer in front of kids, which has made female patrons uncomfortable over the years.
-
I am not in favour of public porn in public libraries... I mean come on, there's a limit...
-
I only report the news for entertainment purposes. Here's the link;

I would be concerned about public masturbation if people are allowed to watch public porn.

Wilmington, NC
Police: Woman's body found dismembered in SUV, person of interest sought
Police said the woman's body had been dismembered. The person who called 911 spoke with WBTV. She said she doesn't know who is responsible for leaving the body in the parking lot on Dove Tree Lane in Hidden Valley. She added whoever it is could be crazy and dangerous so she asked not to have her name released.
"I think I do something good and call the police report. But now I'm scared," said the woman.
"In my parking lot is a truck. I don't know who is this that truck is not moving. The truck has something that smells not good," she told police.
She said she thought the smell could have been from a dead animal. Her husband looked through the window of the SUV and told her something was not good.
"Something a suitcase is in there and have a tire up the suitcase. He smell it more nasty or something. And I'm say I need to call the police," she said.

cough, cough. Charlotte NC
(just up the road from me)
no wonder though, this happened in Hidden Valley. That neighborhood has been seedy and gang-ridden since the late 70s
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hidden_Valley_Kings
interesting and sad note to this wiki article is that the Eastland Mall, where the Hidden Valley Kings had a shoot-out in 2005, just started being demolished on Oct 1. I lived all my high school years in that mall in the 70s, before the gangs moved in during the 80s. How sad to see such a big, lovely mall (with no severe flaws, just no buyers) being knocked to the ground. I drove by the other day with some friends. We were sad but laughed like mad talking about some of the crazy stuff we did in the mall as teenagers.

She probably misspoke using the word "poor people". Dame Westwood comes up from the scrappy masses and surely knows "poor people" have a difficult time buying any clothes, and they will necessarily be cheap clothes when there is a buck to spend on anything. And could never envision saving to buy something as ridiculous as a 200 pound vivienne westwood simple thingie..
Even during periods in my life when I had disposable income I could NEVER bring myself to spend on the prices in high design shops... except a few times when, for instance there were shopping collapses and 80% discounts in the boutiques in London... Then it seemed a reasonable splurge... but still a splurge. A 1000 dollar jacket marked down to 200 is STILL a 200 dollar jacket...
Her first point was spot on. People with disposable income are buying too many cheap clothes...
One of my students did a great presentation on that last year - about the business models of H&M, Zara, etc, and consumer behaviour..

Have y'all seen the video going around of Britney Spears' real singing voice? This is suppose to be isolated audio from her mic; the audience hears the recorded version. This isn't a surprise. If you're a fan, does this bother you? Or, do you just accept she can't sing live, but with computers they make her sound good and we aren't talking about Adele?

-
I am not a Fan and it does bother me , Any artistic performance / production should have an honesty , so if the program explains the process/credits the technology fine if not then it misses the Bar for any serious/playful consideration as anything other than a sham.
-
No wonder Britney had a nervous breakdown . It must be nerve wracking to be an international singing star when you cant sing .
-

I'm not a fan but I don't expect certain performers to be able to sing, especially when running around a stage doing a cardio workout. It is kind of like pro wrestling where you willing suspend disbelief because it is really an act, not a sport-- this is an act, not a vocal performance.
-
I never thought much of Britney's singing in the first place. And those tongue thrusts... ew. I gather some people think it's sexy, but not me. (A note to newer members who don't know me well.... I'm bi, so my opinion of her tongue thrusts is not due to my sexuality.)

Opera singers move around without singing poorly, so do people in musicals on stage. It's a crappy excuse.

One of my guilty pleasures is Antonio Biaggi's blog. Been reading it now and then for about a year. He writes about all sorts of topics and he's kinda pithy all said and done. Plus he writes English more or less phonetically and its super charming, nobody spell checks it not even a computer.
Well I hadn't read it in a month or so but an update is about a run-in he has with Peto Coast and all about Peto Coast's late boyfriend, a porn actor with the stage name of Sewperman -- who was pretty cute, and was supposed to be quite bright and very creative. He died of a probable drug-related heart attack in September. And Peto Coast was taking this out on Biaggi for some reason that wasn't so clear in the blog.
Well, as the thread is called, Me So Bored...

Every fall, the family goes to the Smoky Mountains. This spring, a huge fire broke out in the area of the cabin we stayed at last year. This year, we went to see if it made it. Well, as you can see, it was lost. The only thing left is the slanted driveway. Just thought it was interesting to see the destruction. I think about 65 cabins were lost. It was odd; the cabin on one side was also lost, while the cabin on the other side was fine. The fire jumped around.
