AMG 2014 OFFICIAL THREAD TO VOTE FOR SITE LOCATION

We have collected and reviewed all AMG 2014 Site Location Preferences.  We are following closely the same planning schedule that has been followed for past AMGs and the official voting for voting for location begins...... 

The top 3 destinations have been chosen and are being put forth for any member interested in attending AMG 2014 to vote on. Voting is limited to members only.

Voting will remain open until Friday, November 8, 2013. At 10:30 PM Eastern on that date the location votes will be totaled. The location for AMG 2014 will be announced at 11:00 PM Eastern time.

Please indicate your preference from the following choices. The number in parentheses indicates the number of times the site was listed as a preference. 

Votes are limited to ONE VOTE PER MEMBER and ONE SITE:

           Location               Time of Year Preference

1. NEW ORLEANS, LA (16)         August September

2. SAN DIEGO, CALIF (14)          August, September

3. NEW YORK CITY, NY (09)         August, September


Please keep the above information in mind when casting your vote. You may also indicate a particular week in August or September (while specific times are sometimes subject to hotel availability, this will still give us something to work off of).

Also, try to limit your post to your vote (if you want to put a line or two about why you think it should be held in a certain location from the above selections that is fine - but let's try to keep rationale/reasoning to a minimum and as non-duplicative as possible).  Thanks for your participation.

Some quick stats from site preference selection: The topic received over 3,723 views (this is up by almost a thousand over last year’s 2,349 views); there were 83 replies; 24 site preferences were given (including Ryan Gossling’s butt); and there were 82 location “ticks.”

Since you are having hoof issues, I have a strong back and will carry you around. I'll carry your load on my back! Not elsewhere! But if you piss me off, my evil twin sister, Felecia, would come out. I say NEW ORLEANS anytime.  Decadence is kind of crazy since hotels are sold-out and lines to get into bars are very long and very crowded.  Four points by Sheraton on bourbon street is a perfect location btw.

I am going to have to vote for San Diego.

Two reasons:

1.  We've been East 4 times, West 2 times, South1 time, Chicago & London.

San Diego checks two of the boxes for me.  It's West and South.  The climate is much more moderate than NO.

2.  For me personally the difference in airfare is pretty big.  I can fly to San Diego for <50% of what it would cost me for NO.

This will be our 10th AMG.  It's hard for me to believe.  When a group of us took the plunge (risk?) and went to Toronto I don't think any of us could have imagined what we were starting.  I've been to AMG, only missing Chicago.  Let me just say that each and every one will hold a very special place in my heart.  Aw the memories of the silliness, the adventures, and most importantly the friendships formed.

OK, I have decided.

I cast my vote for San Diego.

I would like New Orleans, too, but San Diego is more temperate in climate.

Oh, and Amtrak goes there.

San Diego. 

I don't think I'd attend any event in New Orleans in Aug or September!  San Diego, on the other hand, is wonderful any time of year.  Plus, it's affordable (don't believe those who say it's not; I live 90 minutes or so away and go often!) and has a great gay area (Hillcrest).  Besides, Disney and LA are only a couple hours away, too, for those who want to see other cool places.

edited to add... Palm Springs is also a couple hours from SD and would be a great add-on trip to the AMG for those so inclined.

Voting for San Diego, hoping to have the AMG '14 just before or after the Aids conference next year in Melbourne, Australia which some of us hope to get down there around that time.

If it is New Orleans that would be great and I will try to get there as well, hopefully May or October so as to avoid summer.

I looked at my school schedule for fall 14,  classes start August 18 (or whatever that monday is) and my family reunion is the day before that. 

I can miss school since it looks like I am only taking 3 classes and 2 of them are once a week.

 if i miss my reunion I will need protection from my Uncle Harold. ;D
