Welcome to the "Do I Have HIV?" POZ forum.

This special section of the POZ forum is for individuals who have concerns about whether or not they are HIV positive. Individuals are permitted to post up to three questions or responses in this forum.

Ongoing participation in the "Do I Have HIV?" forum (posting more than three questions or responses) requires a paid subscription, with secure payments made via PayPal.

A seven-day subscription is $9.99, a 30-day subscription is $14.99 and a 90-day subscription is $24.99.

Anyone who needs to post more than three messages in the "Do I Have HIV?" forum -- including past, present and future POZ Forums members -- will need to subscribe, with secure payments made via PayPal.

Fingering Clarification

Two previous items :

First :English is not my mother language, so please be patient with my spelling...
Second : I simply admire you. Thanks for your work

Now, the question

I've read and reread the lessons section and a - perhaps- all the messages regarding fingering. As can you imagine that I'm really worried, being not able to accept your NO RISK conclusions.Why ?

- Too much surfing the net and finding apparently discordant information. Why?
- An apparent contradiction between 'lessons' (HIV could enter through broken skin) and some posts telling about cuts or sores in fingers with NO RISK
- I bite my nails, so my fingers are not often in the best condition. I felt some stinging ( i don't know if it is the correct term ) during fingering ( could this be a sign of broken skin?)
- Lots of guilt

I hope you can help me clarify my concerns and help others in similar situation if possible.

Yes, HIV could enter through a break in the skin. Theoretically. But in the real world of HIV we know from experience that it doesn't happen through nailbitting, sores, scrapes, cuts and the like. HIV is a fragile virus which requires the kind of receptive setting which is provided by a vagina, an anus or an uncircumcised penis.

There are no reliably documented cases of transmission in the manner you are concerned about. We would have known long before today that such situations were a genuine risk.

Stop surfing the net. You are only feeding unwarranted fears. There's no end to it if you keep indulging in doing that.

Tested a 12 weeks ( insertive blowjob + fingering with cuts and scrapes + protected vaginal=no risk): NEGATIVE as you told.

Maybe this helps people really worried
