This may seem like a very small thing, but for me it’s progress.

This year I decided to send my father a card for Father's Day. He lives in a different city. He's an old school macho shithead so he never gets sentimental or discusses feelings. Ever.

Despite the fact that we have obstacles between us which will never be resolved, despite all the baggage from my childhood that I had to work through, despite all of it, he’s getting on in years and we all know how tenuous life can be.

Maybe I'm growing up, or maybe I'm just tired of playing the reciprocal incommunicado game. I don't expect him to acknowledge this. I really did it for me.

Happy Father’s Day to all the Dads who post here.
