Hi everyone
Please use this thread to post your Las Vegas arrival and departure information. Please also include the arrival time of your flight as it will help us in offering a proper greeting once you arrive at the Stratosphere Hotel.

Yes, Will. It was difficult to start this thread. No one will be able to keep track of this information as efficiently as Ric has. Knowing how much these gatherings meant to Ric, I think he would have wanted the processs to continue moving forward.

I will be driving in from Missouri .
I will be attending the 5:30 HIV group on Wednesday the 4th .
I could never return home and NOT see my friends On Almond Tree .
I Plan on staying until the 18th That gets me three group meetings :)
I will book at the Stratosphere for at least a week .
Then stay with friends or relatives .
Can't wait :D

Henry, It is great to have you back at our gathering. We have missed you! While this is not the official gathering this year, the Vegas trip will be a great time. I visited the hotel property last month and we will have some nice space for our social time together.

I am still fiddling with dates. For sure I will be arriving on Wednesday and staying at least until Monday, but perhaps all the way through Tuesday or even Wednesday. I will post as soon as I make up my mind!

I am sorry to have to tell you all that I will not be attending after all.
Sid and I will be celebrating 20 yrs together on 8/2 and have decided to do something he has wanted to do for a very long time -- we are going to go to Paris.
We had originally planned to do this (you may remember my initial AMG city vote was Paris) -- but his extended unemployment made us decide to stay closer to home. He arranged the time off from his part time jobs to attend Las Vegas with me. However, he received an unexpected inheritance in the mail from a long dead great aunt (seriously -- I'm not making that up -- she passed away in 1991 and the trust is just getting settled), so given that his money concerns have been taken care of -- we have decided to go back to our original plan of a romantic week in Paris -- unfortunately, he can't change his time off now, so we are going from 8/7-8/14.
I would love to see you all again -- and meet some new folks too, but a 20th anniversary and Sid's dream trip takes first place here.
I hope you all have a wonderful time -- and I look forward to hearing stories and seeing pictures.
Have fun -- someone be sure to see that Jan gets her daily wee walks. Also, someone will need to take over cab hailing duties for her....... ;)

Sorry Mike won't be with us this time (but he is taking the better option this time!) and ecstatic Jan is joining us in Sin City! There is still plenty to time for others to "join in"... Las Vegas is almost ridiculously inexpensive this year and Dennis has already made some wonderful arrangements for us.
Paris for anniversary simply can't be topped Mike! Our congratulations and best wishes... we will visit Paris Las Vegas just to show some solidarity.

i've budgeted the hotel fare and have requested the time off from work. if my boss approves then i'm booking my hotel stay by end of week. have also asked two friends to accompany me. hopefully my room will have two beds :)

I havent researched Vegas lately. Do they still ahve the pirate ship battle on the Strip? What about the white Tigers in the Lobby of the MGM or wherever it was? Id like to stroll the shops at Ceasars and see the talking statues and what not. Also the Fountains in front of __________.

The pirates and white tigers are or were at the mirage hotel . check it out online and see if its still there . I know one time when I was there a tiger killed the other tiger but they didn't charge extra for that or anything .

The lions are still at Mirage, although pretty uneventful unless you've never seen one. The fountains in front of the Bellagio are pretty. I recommend going inside to view the Dale Chihuly glasswork hanging above the lobby, along with the botanical gardens.
If you like coasters, the one at NYNY is descent. There's always a gondola ride at the Venetian.
And lets not forget the little bar outside of Paris which serves drinks in foot long glasses shaped like the Eiffel Tower ;D

The talking statues were there three years ago and were amazing, don't know anything about the tigers, the dancing fountains at the Bellagio (sp?) are just wonderful..of course a stroll round the shops at Caesar's is a must, and there is a wonderful Italian restaurant there also.

are we gonna take the gondola ride at the venetian? i've only been to vegas once and it was for a wedding. this time i can explore and meet you awesome people. whether its jumping off stratosphere or drinking drinks out o french landmarks im sure it will be a blast. last time i was there there was an amazing dancing water show at the bellagio.

I've had the privelege of being at a couple of AMG's.
I even introduced my husband to you all in S.F.
He managed to get lost with a poor young english boy and my friend
Loui-ville (spelling?) , out of the goodness of his heart........
got lost with me...........poor sod. ( You will all remember, I know)
We've got three people to remember and celebrate this year.
And all of them were my friends!

I get there at 1330 10th august.
I noticed that some of us are getting there about the same time...give or take 10 mins.
Shall I wear a koala around my leg?

I had a quiet word with them RAB, they told me if I keep her on a leash she is allowed back in...honestly the things we do for our best mates..she owe's me for this one.. ;D.

My goodness, I had almost forgotten that night in San Francisco! I am delighted you are returning to be with us in Las Vegas. Hard to get lost on the Strip...although you can walk a lot of miles! See you in August.

Well we finally got the job done, no? Remember the "AMG Cocktail"?? Jen and I will have to mix up some more of that in an ice bucket...if you're nice!
Santi and I will be arriving Thursday 8/5 at 8:50am, and depart Monday 8/9 at 10:00am. He bought the tickets tonight, and we have direct flights! YAY for that!

Unfortunately, it is turning out that I won't be able to make it to Las Vegas
for the gathering. This really tears me up, because I was so much looking
forward to seeing all of you.
What's happened is that I have bought a home, and will be closing and

It is only a mere 8 or 9 hour drive from my little corner of the world to Las Vegas, and the Miata began to pout when it thought it wasn't going to get to drive down The Strip, top down, on a balmy Vegas August night.
Now, I must decide what route to take.
I could go south to Gallup and then take Interstate 40 across Arizona to Kingman, then north, northwest to Las Vegas crossing Hoover Dam in the process. I do love driving across the dam, although they were building another highway above the canyon to divert traffic from that route when we were last there.
This drive doesn't thrill me, mainly because I really don't want to drive through Arizona.
My other option is to head north, kind of kattycorner across the Navajo Nation, and then across Utah, trekking through the small Mormon communities that have made polygamy their mainstay. (Yes, they do exist and the dear folks living there don't like strangers.)
I either have to go south to I-40 or north to I-70. If I go directly west, which would make sense as the crow flies, I would run flat dab into the Grand Canyon, and I am not going to do a Thelma and Louise in my Miata! :o
At any rate, I will be there, which makes me very happy. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
I will finally be able to find out whether our RAB snores! I think he will find I do. ::)

Actually, I jest.... he really is an ol' softie.... he was the first one to greet me last year in Boston with a (surprisingly) timid, "are you Bocker?". He then proceeded to take me to a room where he introduced me to a half dressed Dennis... :o
All my nervousness was unneeded. This is a bunch of the nicest, most fun group of folks (yes, some are on the weird side, but in a good way) -- especially the crazy lady from New Zealand.
Enjoy your time, you'll be leaving with such a high on life feeling. I'm sad that I can't attend this year.

I vote for option 2. I got out my AAA map and it looks like you can across the Navajo Nation, like you said, over to HWY 89 then up Lake Powell. From Lake Powell drive West through Zion Natl.Park and hit I-15. Then south to Las Vegas. VIOLA~~
By the way, I'm calling shotgun right now for any cruising down Las Vegas Blvd.
