I'm making my life more hectic
« on: March 04, 2014, 11:21:16 pm »
Have I ever mentioned how I HATE THIRD SHIFT?  Well if I haven't now you know ;D  so what did I do......................I took a job offer at Dart Containers for third shift.

Not sure if I am stupid or crazy but it's more money and full time.  Not sure how I will work a full and a part time job and school but I will figure it out.  I probably won't stay at the grocery store and only keep one job for now.  In the summer I might go back to the grocery store also.

I must of thought my life wasn't hectic enough so I made it hectic.

Michelle, I certainly don't encourage working 2 jobs and going to school full time; you are going full time, aren't you?  While at some points in the semester it could work, when the metal hits the road, it would be next to impossible to remain sane and complete everything that need to be completed.  Not impossible, but just extremely difficult.

As Irish Eyes said, at least you're determined.  Just please take it easy and don't do more than you're able to, while keeping sane. Of course this is just my opinion.

That's a tough and challenging schedule.  Just keep your mind on the end result.  I too worked a full time job in addition to a part time one while maintaining fulltime student status.  There were many stressful and overwhelming periods but I focused on the prize.

In my case, I had to work that much but wish it wasn't necessary.  Hopefully you can figure it out before burning out.

best of luck

Hi Michelle,  I agree with the others, you have a lot of determination and drive, but you really got to try to slow down a little if possible.

After working the graveyard shift for more than 17 years, I know full well the stress this shift places on the body. It effects weight , blood pressure...

As well, it may not always be possible to get a good sleep in the daytime, depending on conditions.  I had it good with a soundproof and completely darkened room.

I usually went to bed at 11:00 Am and was back up @ 7:00 pm , and needed every bit of that sleep.

Watch yourself girl.   We don't want you getting sick, pulling all these hours.

Hey Michelle,

I believe in being the captain of our own destiny and trusting our ability to live, whatever life we choose.  I remember living a similarly hectic life, where there were simply not enough hours in the day.  Yet, I never wished for less to do, only for more time in which to do them.

I sense there is more to this job change that initially evident.  This change is significant for you and your reaction seems to indicate more enjoyment than distress.  I think you know what you can handle and if we don't stretch at times, we never discover just how high we can reach.

Hey Michelle;

Congratulations!

Joe's post is spot on and eloquent.  The only thing I would add would be to be keenly aware of how you are doing and think through the alternatives ahead of time if you think you need to adjust, and communicate early.  Everyone (employers, professors, etc.) really appreciates knowing ahead of time if there is change a foot - they may have alternatives that wouldn't be available otherwise.

I wish you the best with this new adventure!

Ray--To late I'm already fighting a cold.  Went and got Donald Duck oj (real orange juice) :D  since cough syrup doesn't seem to work.

Betty--Gave my notice at the grocery store tuesday.  I decided that I needed the time for studying.  This semester I'm only taking 2 classes, my english class has a paper due every week so i kept my classes at a minimum, and not taking any over the summer.  Fall I will take 3 and they will probably be online.

When I worked third shift before I didn't go to bed until noonish so it won't be much different now.  I got a mask and ear plugs to wear for bed and I'm getting dark curtains.

I like the grcoery store but they can't give me more then 15-20 hours.  If they could or would give me full time I would have stayed there.  It only pays minimum wage.  this job also enables me to get my own place, or at least somewhere where someone is looking for a roommate.

My new hours will be midnight-8am, I have a class 2x week 8-930am and a class 1x week 9am-noon  The one at 9 is on friday so no work that night. I already talked to my philosophy professor and told him I would be 15 minutes late for his class.

If your convience store coffee cup lid doesn't work you can yell at me ;)
