I'm having a difficult recalling any place that doesn't have a TV.

I've seen some Facebook friends post those links how Obama has done an awful job with Ebola.  Many saying his response was "too late, too little."  Of course, there are the ones saying he brought it here.  You know how those things can show up on your timeline, even if they don't post them?  They can just like or comment on the link, and it often shows up.

Anyway, I saw a photo posted in response, which I thought was good.

Ok, i get it about waiting rooms. But where/what are all these restaurants with tv?

I have never ever ever seen a TV in any health office in Switzerland or France, for what its worth.

I know some countries have more media saturation then others. There are countries with TV on public transport, right?

Here in CH, on transport, everyone has their faces in their computers and smart phones.  Nobody is watching news though - just playing games, watching series, working, or communicating.  Most people seem to be communicating.

Switzerland doesn't really have a culture much interested in news and current events. A lot of my college students don't consume very much news, and some of them consume NO news and there are even free newspapers - kinda crappy but still with some of the headlines and produced by the big media companies...

I don't see TV's in high-end restaurants or even McDonald's.  You'll find them in pizza places to places like Applebee's-- places with bars, where people come to watch games on football night.  Think Hooters.  But, we have several Irish pubs here, where you have a TV at whatever angle you are looking.  Most have a least one TV on a cable news channel.  On a busy night, you can't hear the TV.  That's why they use those big graphics, and they usually have closed-captioning on.  Many in the pub restaurants are watching the TV.  At the doc, many are looking at their phones and listening to the TV.

I watched a documentary that gives a revisionist history of the Rwandan Genocide. The complexity of this against the official story aside...  I was challenged to simply get the two protagonists fixed in my brain, Tutsi and Hutu. You'd think it would be simple, I mean it should be right?, but I had to repeat parts of the documentary a few times to wrap my head around who was who and the history of the animosity.

So I dunno there is some general cultural interference going on in the brains of those outside Africa that people can't easily grasp the reality inside this huge and diverse continent.  Just easier to think "Africa" is one country, or at least there is the country "Africa" which is everything sub-saharan and black, and North Africa is all "arab".

In a similar way, Ive experienced American relatives being not too aware that Sweden and Switzerland aren't one and the same. And here in Switzerland there are many people who don't understand that Ireland isn't part of "England" meaning the UK.

Xenophobia is sadly pretty common in many cultures as is just simple ignorance about anything "foreign".

looks like it's New York's turn for the Ebola.  This guy seems to have been moving around a lot.  They say he was out bowling last night.

I wonder if folks with HIV have any immunity against this Virus.  I know that a doctor in Africa was treating some patients with an HIV drug.

I just had my first healthcare worker, during a routine phone screening of my personal identification (name, address, phone number, birthdate, etc.) when calling to make an appointment with a specialist also make a routine inquiring if I'd "recently travelled in the past 30 days to Liberia, Guinea or Sierra Leone.

Gays being blamed for spread of Ebola in West Africa

Well, of course... because that just makes so much sense!

Depressing beyond depressing.  I am reminded of vile interviews with Ugandan leaders in documentaries about gay persecution there.  Not to mention revolting testimonies in our own European and American countries, past and present.

So, the first nurse has been released and spoke before the media.  Due to her glamorous looks, I have already seen comments she never had it and the govt faked it, to make it seem you can recover so quickly..lol.

While I think that is ridiculous, I can see why someone could go there.  She looked like she was ready for her news anchor audition.  She must not have been so sick with it.  She did post pics from her hospital bed, where she looked pretty good there.  I remember getting out of the hospital and had barely the energy to get up out of the wheelchair.

My point is there are obviously degrees to how sick people get.  That may help researchers?

I think if you are diagnosed very early and immediately go to hospital treatment including very close monitoring of fluids and electrolytes, its a big part of the battle. Also in rich countries people with ebola can get the injections of blood from survivors of ebola and they say that helps too.

Rachel Maddow contrasts the response to Ebola by responsible public officials with the irresponsible panic-pushing of some Republicans who deliberately undermine confidence in public health authorities with made-up disinformation.

Of course they're using it to get votes - and to continue to use it they will. We may think that some of the polititicians (Virginia Foxx, for example) are complete blathering idiots - denying climate change, Clinton/Obama conspiracies, death squads, birth certificates,  - but they can't be too stupid because......well.....they are where they are!  What they count on is the stupidity of the electorate (and they're right!).
