New Meds getting rid of the old ones
« on: March 20, 2013, 01:27:58 pm »
OK, so after almost 6 to 7 yrs.  my ID Doc is taking me off of the Norivr, Aptivus, and the Travada to replace all 3 of them with Complera.....

Her ultimate goal is to get rid of the Tricor, Pravastatin, Quinapril, all them dam lipid meds, that I probably don't need any more ;)

so, this is going to be very interesting being able to only take 2 HIV/MEDS a day
being the Complera and the Isentress.....

worst case scenario, if I stop being UD and my VL go's up, she throw something else in the mix to combat any of this  :-[

wish me luck , I will keep this thread updated with the next labs
to see how well all of this play's out :)

Yes, and so will my Ins. Company BCBS too

this brings the price of my Meds way down

under to 1k mark, so that means

lower co-pays too, kinda a Win Win , all the way around :)

Hope it goes well for you.  I switched over to the same combo 4 months ago but still waiting for a drop in my lipids. Maybe it'll work faster for you.

I did get a 30% boost in my CD4s from 100 up to 130 so that's good.

So, it's been almost 2 weeks , so I'll give you all a review on the  Complera

the one thing I noticed
right off the bat, was no acid reflux, no bloating, no gas, no diarrhea

I now have solid stools, I haven't have those in yrs.  :D

( I don't look like a pregnant 56 yr old man anymore)  ;D

I'm kinda jittery and do fly off the handle more, and don't have the patients I used to have with people  :o

seem kinda odd just taking only 2 meds (Complera and the Isentress)

after almost 26 yrs this JUNE of being on Meds non-stop, without any
med holiday whatsoever  :o

Now let's see if i can keep my lipids down, I'll keep all of you old timers ( like me) posted on just how well that works out  :)

Thats great Dennis.
My experience is a little different since I had to stop taking Pantoprozole (Nexium) when I started Complera.  I now have great rumbling in my stomach and a bit of acid pain. But I take Zantac and it helps a little.  I think...hope...that my body will adjust to the change.

Opppps.
Spoke too soon. Last night we had hot dogs in rolls with baked beans and cole slaw.
Well..........................the acid reflux was unbearable. I had to take 4 GasX and a small glass of Kefir to get to sleep.

I didn't know that was a condition for taking Complera. I guess that puts it in the no category for me. Without my proton pump inhibitor, even water makes me sick.

Hey Mark,

for what it's worth, I take  PREVACID
(lansoprazole), but I can only take it
@ bedtime, and cannot take it during to day
along with the Complera....

 And Joel,

I try to avoid any types of gassy
foods, if I can, but sometimes, it cannot
be avoided tho...

Thanks Den....yes...no fatty/gassy food. Both of us were doubled over in pain after that fiasco of a meal.

Its been an adjustment for me.... a hard one....to switch from Pantoprazole to Zantac.  BUT, I think my gut has quieted down somewhat and although I do belch in a new way (sometimes painful),  I am going to say that the Complera seems to be easy to take.  All things considered I feel ok.
Note:  There are no statistics on the over 65 age group for Complera.
