One week after possible exposure I started feeling symptoms then progressively turned into night sweats fatigue one swollen lymph node no fever no diarrhea I was with extreme anxiety. Went to the Er after week one and was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism given a beta blocker for heart racing. Cbc stated high neutrophils low lymphocytes. Got tested at 44 days in hospital with 4th generation duo test no reactive then at 69 days rapid non reactive. Developed a non itchy rash under breasts but This I’ve experienced before just concerning due to circumstances. What are the chances at this stage 2 weeks shy of 12 weeks it could be positive?

Lymph node anytime my throat is dry it’s a little irritated but doctor wants me to get it checked in regards to thyroid problem states it could have possibly been swollen because of inflammation.

Look if your symptoms had anything to do with HIV you would have tested positive already, symptoms are caused by the bodies reaction to the infection not the infection itself.

At 6 weeks a result will rarely change, guidelines are to test at 13 weeks for outliers, so all in all i expect your result will remain negative when you do test. Remember to test for easier to transmit STI's whilst you are testing for HIV.

Here's what you need to know in order to avoid hiv infection:
Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, every time, no exceptions.

Keep in mind that some sexual practices which may be described as ‘safe’ in terms of HIV transmission might still pose a risk for transmission of other STI's, so please do get fully tested regularly and at least yearly for all STI's including but not limited to HIV and test more frequently if unprotected intercourse occurs

Also note that it is possible to have an STI and show no signs or symptoms and the only way of knowing is by testing.

More information on HIV Basics, PEP, TaSP and Transmission can be found through the links in my signature to our POZ pages, this includes information on HIV Testing

Kind regards

Jim

Updated I had a 4th generation duo Ag/Ab test done on 80th day and a rapid antibody on the 84th day
Should I test again at 90 days
Why do doctors still suggest 6 months is this because results can change
I can’t seem to get this off my brain I’ve become obsessed googling every minute. Since the encounter.
Also can autoimmune diseases such as Hashimoto thyroiditis (taking anti thyroid meds and antibiotics) at the time of 12 week alter or delay the bodies response in detection of antibodies
 Thanks in advance

6 months is really horribly outdated and nothing you mentioned will change the test results. Testing at 13 weeks is for outliers and is conclusive. I do not expect your 84th day test to change if you test again and testing further would be more for peace of mind.

Not sure what exposure you believe you had but at this stage I would be saying move on with your life and get past this HIV concern, remember going forward as a sexually active adult to just test as a routine at least yearly for STI's including HIV

I had protected vaginal (I’m female) and unprotected oral but literally 9 days after my whole world changed. Heart palpitations chills I vomited one night what they classify as low grade fever. Later that week I looked in my mouth and seen ulcer on my gum extreme fatigue. I was recently tested for other sti negative. But I felt different lost a lot of weight because of the incident as well as not eating. I developed a fungal rash under both breasts as well as uti but went away with prescribed medication and antibotics. I’ve been to the hospital at 44 days post it was negative 4 generation duo and then the recent as mentioned before. All the symptoms I read are ars things happened to my body that never have before. Especially so quickly after the incident. Now I’m diagnosed with autoimmune disease/thyroiditis which is also caused by virus. So scared.

Well the good news i suppose is if your symptoms you mentioned had anything to do with HIV you would have tested positive already, symptoms are caused by the bodies reaction to the infection not the infection itself.

Also thyroiditis rates in HIV patients is pretty much the same as HIV negative people, no statistical difference and from what I recall reading there has only ever been 1 case recorded during primary infection considering there are 78 million cases I would call it an outlier or coincidence not fact.

Test next week for peace of mind for HIV at 90 days mark, and the test will be conclusive, however considering you had no real world risk and have tested negative so far I fully expect that your conclusive result from this incident will remain negative.

Hope you feel better soon.
