Title: Tested POS in Oct.
Post by: hellrider on December 01, 2010, 04:32:35 pm
Hello Everyone!

I also tested pos. in October, I havent started my meds yet as I have my first appointment with with the V.A. next Wednesday. My cd4 count on my second test was at 638 VL unknown. For me this whole thing started in  Sept. when I got bronchitis I went to the emergency room when they diagnosed it as bronchitis, so I received antibiotics, so it got a little better, I went on about my business but I couldn't get my energy back so I chalked that up to diabetes. I am a diabetic also, with a herniated disc in my neck with pain in my neck and shoulders. The energy thing went on for a month when all of a sudden I had alot of body aches and I got a fever of 105, my wife made me go to the emergency room then, I don't remember much after that. I spent a week in the hospital with this. My wife is Neg by the way.

Sorry to hear about your diagnosis. October sucked for me too. I also tested poz for hiv that month. In fact, with my cd4 count below 200. I actually had aids. I was shocked that I even had the virus. I didn't have any symptoms other than some mild headaches and fatigue. Which I thought was just from stress, and not something like hiv. Anyway, I've found alot of helpful information on this site. I wish you the best. What does your doctor plan to do next?

I went to the VA on wednesday and the Doc wasn't to concerned he said I was to healthy to start meds at this time and so he wanted his own test and drew 12 vials of blood so I haven't started med.

I viewed my records yesterday from the VA and I have 693 on my CD4 count and a VL of 192k. I am still tired and fatigued all the time and I cant get my mind straight. I am a diabetic and I have degenerative disc disease with herniated discs in my neck. I am a mess.

What did your doctor recommend? Does he want to start you on treatment to bring your viral load down?

Just got news today that the strain of virus I have will have me taking 4 pills, 3 of the pills I have to take twice a day. I am going to be taking prezista twice a day, norvir twice a day, raltegravir twice a day, and finally truvola once a day. This is what I was told thank god I have the VA or else I couldn't afford this. I am at CD4 of 697 and VL of 192k, I am at 17 percent.

I know the whole ordeal has 'thrown you for a loop'.  It sounds like you have access to medical care without causing a financial burden on you and your wife.

When do you actually start treatment?

I will start probably next month on meds and go from there. I will say I have a whole new perspective on life now, but I still think back how dumb I was.

It is a lot to come to grips with.  At this point, my advise is to not dwell on the 'what ifs' and how dumb you think you were.  It happened and now you are dealing with it.  From my read of your posts, it appears as though you have an action plan mapped out.

Keep everybody posted on your progress towards becoming undetectable.  That day will be one to celebrate for sure.  And by the way, the new perspective on life is understandable.  I think many here can relate to that as well.
