I am just 28 years old. I was raped April 12, 2008. On June 4th I found out I was HIV positive and I also found out that my rapist had AIDS. This is so sad for me. I am a single mother of a four year old. If it wasn't for him I would have killed myself last night.

Hello,

Welcome to the forums. I will not pretend to know what you are going through as I don't. My mom was raped when I was a girl in our front yard. I remember feeling responsible for a long time as I brought my mom to this man. I know that it must be hard to deal with everything. I am HIV+ and was diagnosed in 2003. I'm on treatment and I'm fine. Sure it's not always easy but there is life after diagnosis. REALLY there is!!! And I'm so glad that you have your child. Life is hard but I'm so glad that you chose not to end your life.

You will find a lot of information, love and support here on this site. It has helped me tremendously. Do you have an HIV Specialist? A support group for rape victims? Please let us know how you are doing and I will be thinking about you. I hope to hear more from you. :-*

Mystery901,
I'm so sorry you were assaulted and are now dealing with HIV from your attack. I want to let you know that you will get through this. Know that NOTHING is your fault. You are the victim and can become a SURVIVOR of your rape. I did.

I hope you will seek counseling to help you cope with processing all of this. Don't second guess yourself. Stay with your feelings and express them. You don't have to disclose any of this to anyone until you're ready. Having a good support system is invaluable but keep it close and small for now.

My ability to trust was severely damaged but can be repaired. It's a horrible violation on so many levels. But be willing to ask for help when you need it.

Here's a link for some resources to begin to reach out if you've not already done so:

http://www.rapeis.org/support.html

You'll be able to get support from others [women who know what you're going thru] here and elsewhere.

I'm glad you've posted here. It's a wonderful source of support. I'm glad you're still here for your little four year old. You need each other, remember that in the bad times. -YaKa

You found the right place for support...cause you are not alone.  I can only comment about the HIV diagnosis....and tell you that you will be fine with a good doctor who will monitor your labwork.  Drugs today are so much better than 20 years ago.  They have helped my energy level tremendously.  Remember your life isn't over...the disease may infect your body but it can't affect your soul.   You are special.
