Triumeq and spirulina
« on: July 07, 2020, 07:35:44 pm »
Hi everyone!
I've been taking triumeq since 2015 and I have always been told that I cannot take multivitamins pills together with that .

I can only take it 8 hours earlier before taking my triumeq or  otherwise I can take that two hours after my triumeq.

I'm not taking any multivitamins compound but I do take a spoon of spirulina  in my smoothies.  Would it be right to take everything at the same time or should I wait 2 hours for being able to ?

Thanks on advance for your help.

Regards

Hi lklk92,

I've been on Triumeq for more than 3 yrs and I've been taking multivitamins plus 2000 iu vit D.
I take all 3 pills in one swallow every morning before breakfast and have remained undetectable throughout that time, no issues except 1 blip.

I had no idea that I was supposed to seperate them, maybe I forgot since my memory isn't what it was, but I'm doing fine. I will ask my doctor next time I see her if I've putting myself at risk in any way. In the mean time I will be taking my vitamins at least 2 hours after my triumeq. https://www.aidsmap.com/about-hiv/arv-factsheet/triumeq#:~:text=Taking%20calcium%2C%20iron%2C%20magnesium%20or,or%20two%20hours%20after%20Triumeq.

Thank you for bringing it up. I would ask your doctor about the the spirulina.

Triumeq = dolutegravir (Tivicay), lamivudine (Epivir), abacavir (Ziagen)

I myself am on Tivicay.

Your restrictions sound like it has to do with certain metals, specifically the divalent cations (e.g., calcium, iron, magnesium, zinc, selenium, etc.). These are found in multivitamins. Magnesium is even found in low concentrations in sparkling water and a number of supplements.

These are very well documented to bind with Tivicay and inhibit its absorption into the body. It's even mentioned in the package insert to take any such metal-specific supplements 6 hours before or 2 hours after Tivicay.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for your answers guys .

Almost2late please let us know what's  your doctor advise whenever you ask him. Thanks

Xinyuan so do you think that triumeq  will most likely interfere with the spirulina?

Not entirely sure.

Spirulina doesn't seem to have high amounts of any components that would interact with Triumeq. At first glance, I'd say no.

Still, I would defer to your provider on that question.

Yeah , I guess I will have to ask it to the doctor just to be sure.

Thanks for your answer xinyuan.
