Ok i had a test today from possible exposures from the past with a condom now like i have said before i had sex with a transsexual and im very worried because they fall in a category of being as high rate of hiv positive also the thing about that is that she performed oral sex on me ( gave me a blowjob) also i was the insertive partner she never touched my behind.. having said that i want to say that like a responsible man i used a condom but after two or three minutes of having anal sex i notice the condom broke i didnt feel it i touched it and thats how i noticed the damned thing was broke well i pulled out immediately and i think i cant remeber very well cause i freaked out i think that the condom was still on me i mean the part that protects the head was still on so i think it broke from the side well after that i took it off and told her to just give me oral which she did and i came in her mouth after that i washed my penis with water and checked the condom and it looked fine but i was right it was broke from the side and now im freaking out i dont know what are my odds of being infected i took a test today and i know is too early but i also took other tests to find out if i have syphillis or any other stds im very worried please let me know something the last time i think it was misunderstood what i said because i was wearing a condom but it broke from the side and im not really sure if i was all the way inside of her so please let me know something and sorry if im making a mistake posting again but i didnt know how to bring my old post ove to this new sextion so i apologyxe for that
and thanks guys for helping all these people go through the 13 weeks wating period which could be very suicidal

If the head of your penis was still covered I don't see any risk in what you have stated.

hello guys im sorry but i have a question .. i know i know im being like mandy81 a really pain in the behind but i would like to know if its ok if i test after a month or six weeks and then at the three month period do u think that would 50 50 accurate a month period or shall just go ahead and wait three months i mean so i dont become sucidal or insane u know

3 months is completely accurate for you.

this is a total red flag to us... go immediately and see a mental health specialist. We cannot help you with these issue, we can only access risk.

hello experts im sorry to come back with this but i just got through reading this below i would like to know how accurate were my two testings one in february and one three days ago they were negative but now im concerned that they might've been false negative results .. what can you guys tell me to ease my mind very sacre now again and as far as the encounter with the ts girl i talked to you guys about earlier maybe i wasnt so much at risk but still im concerned about that cause the condom broke not from the tip but from the middle and cant remember if i was poking or all the way in so please answer for these two questions please!!!!!!!

The collection of oral fluids to look for HIV antibodies using the Oraquick Rapid HIV Antibody Test may not be as accurate as the other rapid assays that use blood samples. As of mid-December 2005, clinics in Los Angeles, San Francisco, and New York City have reported high rates of false-positive test results, meaning that the Oraquick Rapid HIV Antibody Test using oral fluids (but not blood samples) falsely detected antibodies in several people who were not infected with HIV. However, the test is still highly accurate in terms of detecting antibodies in people who are infected with HIV (it has an extremely low false-negative rate).

the test doesn't have low false negative rates... it has NO FALSE negative rates when taken at the appropriate time.
the only concern is a false positive since it's extremely sensitive.... period.

thanks for clearing that .. so what that really means is that if im negative most likely im negative because the test did not detect any kind of hiv virus in my blood now if it does detect something could it be that i am infected most likely or do i have a chance of being negative both of my tests have been negative do you think i should worry anymore and what about the condom breakage i mean i think we have been having intercorse no more than 1 minute and i pulled out because i touched the condom and felt skin i mean i didnt even feel the condom broke from the tip i found out because i touched my penis while trying to insert it in her ass and when i touched the skin i pulled out immediately so how risky you guys think that was i received oral sex from her afterwards and came in her mouth washed my penis with water and went home i mean i went home not her i was at her house

Frankly, you keep tossing in so much stuff here that I have lost track of which week you tested negative. It's no surprise that you tested negative. Your risk was very minimal since even with the broken condom the head of your penis was still covered and that is the access point for HIV. There was no risk from getting a blowjob.
I'll go through this even though it's probably a fruitless exercise given how you seem not to listen. The average time to seroconversion is 22 days. All but the smallest number of those who are going to seroconvert will do so within 4-6 weeks after an exposure to the virus. So your negative test result is more than just encouraging. Particularly since your risk was close to nil to begin with.
If your test was done before 13 weeks then re-test at 13 weeks and collect another negative result. If it was at 13 weeks then you're done, you're HIV negative, period. end of story.
As for wanting us to feel sorry for you, you seem to be wallowing in quite enough self-pity and it doesn't seem to be doing you a bit of good. If you can't get over this then I suggest you get yourself some professional help to sort things out.
Please stop with the what ifs and the buts. We've given you the real deal here. If that's not enough for you then I'm afraid you need to look elsewhere.

Ok thanks guys for responding me and i just want to clarify that the test i took was for an sexual encounter i had with a sex worker about 4 months ago so that one came back negative now what i was talking about was an encounter i had with a transsexual i met on the internet in a chatroom i went to her house about 6 days ago and thats whats freaking me out but if you say that if the head of my penis was still cover then im pretty much protected right and thanks for telling one more time how everything works i really apprecciate it guys andi will try not to toss you with so many questions and buts and ifs... well now im just going to wait to have the test at 3 months again just to make sure im ok and satisfy my mind that im clean because i talked to her (the transsexual ) again on the internet and asked her if she had anything i asked four times and kept telling me that she is clean but the thing about it is that she told me that the only way to get infected was if there was semen blood or vaginal fluids. which is true but she also told me that i could have sex with someone who is postive and not get anything if none of this fluids are exposed so that makes me think that maybe she is not having safe sex for thinking that. she is probably letting everybody penetrate her without a condom thinking that if the guy doesnt cum inside of her she will not get infected so thats what freaked me out and thats why i start asking you guys which i will not do anymore ok. well thanks a lot guys and i hope i didnt get anything this time good bye and thanks a lot one more time you guys are life savers if you know what i mean

1. Stop using the word "clean" in relation to HIV (as well as other STDs for that matter). That implies those who positive are dirty which you need to realize is deeply offensive. So get educated on this point right now. Someone who is poz is not by definition "dirty."
2. The risk from your second incident is very, very low because the head of your penis remained covered. I expect you to continue to test negative and yes, you should re-test at 13 weeks just to be certain.
3. You're rapidly slipping further into obsessive territory and you need to put some effort into calling a halt to that right now. Stop surfing the net for quasi-information and collecting opinions. You've been given the real deal here, no kidding.
4. Stay productively busy and your waiting time until re-testing will go much more quickly than you may imagine.

ok i got that never ever again i will use that term and i think that im over stressing this episode.. well i just have one question i could not find why in MA the window period is 6 weeks and not 13 likein texas and any other states i would like to know why if you guys dont mind answering this question. do they have a different and better or more advance test or what well im still taking a test at 13 weeks to satisfy my mind that i am hiv negative thank you guys for helping all of us paranoids !!!!

The window period in MA is six weeks only at State Approved testing centers, where they ONLY use 4th generation tests and I believe this excludes rapid tests.
On this forum we stick to the thirteen week window as approved by the CDC and the twelve week window as approved by the UK and most European countries. The 12-13 week discrepancy is caused by how the different countries define three months and is splitting hairs. Either time is sufficient.
However, the fact remains that the vast majority of people who have actually been infected will seroconvert and test positive by six weeks no matter what generation of testing is used. The three month window exists to catch the exceedingly rare person who takes slightly longer than six weeks to produce enough antibodies to be detected on the tests.

I am sorry experts but i have to say this.. i can not believe how many men have said that they are married and they have had sex with a sex worker or transsexual. Man!!!! if I was married i would have never done not one of the things I've done not one!!! the only reason I did them is because I just can't find a girl. Wait let me rephrase that i can not find the right girl i mean i could have sex with any girl but i am the kind of guy that do not like to play with the feelings of another person.. for all of you men if you read this im going to tell you this do not have sex with sex workers or anything outside your marriage that is just stupid .. like I said if I was married i would have never done and im sure absolutely sure that i would have never done none of the things i have done .. and I hope God forgives me for what i have done all the stupid things i have done ..

It seems like you are stating that because the person was a transsexual, that they are not a real person and their feelings don't matter.
Each person, regardless of gender identity, is indeed a whole person with feelings. Perhaps you should review some of your own perceptions and judgements.

I apologyze one more time but i just had to say it and no i am not saying that because what happened to me with that person with gender problems identity i did not say that because of that i said it because i felt guity of what i have done and because i envy this men that already have someone to share their lives with and still go around messing up .. my point is that if i was them i would not have done not one of the things i have done. i did them because im a dickhead and do not think before acting that is why i said i am what you would call a woman when is a sex addict a nympho that is what i am but i also know for a fact that if i had a woman to be with i would never cheat on her and i mean it. the last girlfriend i had i never cheated on her but when she broke up with me i just turned into a real dickhead and i was horny all the time so i became a sex addict basically it did not matter what i had sex with as long as it look like a woman thats what i mean but now i feel like by doing that it took my manhood away from me by having sex with this transsexual it made me feel that im not the man i was.. Now it makes me feel dirty and with no moral values .. i cant change that now because i did it already. but i do know one thing, that even though i did that it will not make me like other men i like women and love them but sometimes a man can be such a dickhead and desperate that as long as there is a hole where i can stick this thing it doesnt matter what it is as long as it has a skirt on and looks good on it.. and i know this forum is not to discuss stuff like that but i cant help it . it makes me feel free everytime i talk about it and it makes me feel like it was a really big mistake but i have been forgiven about it .. this is all i have to say i promise you guys will not hear nothing else from me i promise so there is no need to tell me to look for proffessional help or go somehwere else to post this kind of bullshit just understand that it makes me feel free of all wrong i have done

You need to ask those questions at the testing center where you have your test done. I think an oraquick can be a third or fourth gen, but we don't have a crystal ball to inform us what test is used where you test. Same goes for the blood test. Different centers use different tests. You'll just have to ask them at the center.

hey guys i would like to know how true is this statement. someone stated this and told me this and i disagree with her . she said that "as long as there are not semen bloodor vagianl fluids invloved im ok " and i said no you are wrong and she told me i did not know nothing about how to get infected , she also told me that i could even have sex without a condom with someone and if none of this fluids are involved then im ok.

How on earth could you have intercourse with someone without coming into contact with some of their fluids? I hope you can put this woman straight about unprotected intercourse, because she's a prime candidate for becoming infected with hiv.
You must be using condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, every time, no exceptions.

Oh God!!! im so dead now i knew it. The person that told me that was the transsexual i had sex with she told me that, after asking her/him to tell me the truth about her hiv status and she got mad at me and told me that she was tired of telling me that she did not have anything and she was hiv negative and have never had any std. Now i know she probably was lying and dont even know how hiv is transmitted. Im sure i got it now. Experts whats my worst scenario now saying that somehow i got infected with condom beakage and a few seconds or 1 minute of exposure also the condom broke from the side as i have said before lower middle right side. And if the individual is indeed infected with the virus what are my odds of getting infected from receiving fellation from her without a condom and cumming in her mouth. Oh God im really scare now. please guys help me

is been 22 days since that exposure i have stated above. do i still have to wait 13 weeks can i go take a test at 6 or 8 weeks and what are my chances of being positive after testing negative at 8 weeks. that is if i test negative? oh God freaking out now 13 weeks is too long

hey i would like to know something . besides HIV cani be sure i dont have any other std's or do you think i should test for eveything else i mean i have never had any other symptoms for any of what describe it's an STd so do you think i should be concerned for like syphillis or hpv gonorreah or any of the most common std's . thank you for your answers they are very encouraging

Anyone who is sexually active should be having a full sexual health care check-up, including but not limited to hiv testing, at least once a year and more often if unprotected intercourse occurs.
If you aren't already having regular, routine check-ups, now is the time to start. As long as you make sure condoms are being used for intercourse, you can fully expect your routine hiv tests to return with negative results. Don't forget to always get checked for all the other sexually transmitted infections as well, because they are MUCH easier to transmit than hiv.

I m sorry if this question is very ignorant after being told many things about hiv. well my question is that on november of 2004 i had unprotected viginal sex with a girl. ok then i had several blow jobs witouth using condoms from prostitutes and with one of them i had protected anal sex well after that last encounter i got very scare that even though i had used a condom and it didnt break and it only lasted like 15 minutes. i went a took a test in february of 2006 this year being my last exposure on january the 18 in other words is been over a year and a half since my unprotected incident. Well so i took the oraquick test and came back negative then i went in june 1 to take another test after getting scare of my last encounter with this trannsexual were my condom broke now i would like to know if i am those tests resulst were accurate i mean absolutely conclusive or do i have to worry even more now that i am scare from this last episode is been 25 days since my last encounter not a prostitute but a transsexual i met over the internet and had sex with she gave me a blow job and had intercourse no more than 15 minutes and i checked the condom two times and it was ok and the last time i checked it it was broke but not from the tip but from the side like i have said before so should i just worry about this incident or should i worry aobut the last ones ?

no need to answer this last question i just read that oraquick is very good device or test to find out someone's hiv status so i think im pretty sure i did not get it from last exposures. But i cant be so sure from this last encounter because i read in the cdc that if condom failure occurs during anal sex i am at a great risk of contracting the virus

today is the 25th day of my last exposure and i have a white dot in my mouth not on my tongue and it hurts it lookd like herpes not genital you know the one you get inside the mouth but im freaking out due to this Oh my God help please

Which is bullshit. You are certainly at risk if you have unprotected anal sex. But "great risk?" What do they base that on? Per-incident exposure? Viral load? Trauma to the rectum?
The CDC would say that kissing stubble causes HIV, if it thought that would get fewer guys to kiss guys.
Look to the first tiered, peer-reviewed science for your information. Not clearinghouses with right-wing religious governmental oversight like the CDC. Seriously.

If your partner was definitely HIV-infected, the risk is probably higher, but still less than the risk associated with unprotected receptive anal sex (being a bottom without a condom).
I just found this looking in the internet is this true ? Do you think i could go through the 13 window week period not worrying and just thinking that the only thing im going to do at the 13 week period is my confirmation of a negative result?

Some STDs, such as HIV, can take up to 6 months before they can be detected in the blood. Genital herpes and the human papillomavirus (HPV) can be spread when symptoms are not present. Even if you and your partner have been tested, use condoms for all sex until you and your partner haven't had sex with another person for 6 months. Then get tested again.

You are hiv negative from all the other incidents you have brought to us.
As for the latest one - the anal condom break - as your head was still fully protected, you've pretty much NO CHANCE of testing postitive. I fully expect you to test negative.
Stop bringing crap from other sites on the internet to this forum. You've been a member of these forums for four months now - plenty of time for you to realise our answers to you are not going to change no matter what mouldy crumbs you find elsewhere.
If you get a thrill out of scaring yourself silly on other sites, that's your business. Just stop bringing it to us. We don't want to know.
I cannot see your test results changing over what was essentially still a protected encounter. Protected means no risk.

WHAT about this new findings people. could you explain to me what are they referring to. Is this like if i test at 13 weeks the test will miss any kind of hiv infection or are they referring to if i test earlier than the window period i will have a false negative test what do they mean . this I found in your news page it was in my e-mail box can you please explain this to me. is made me a little nervous and feeling like the test they are using right now are not that effective at detecting the virus so please. it would much appreciated if you could explain this to me thanks a lot .for you r answers

It doesn't give you all the information required. It didn't tell you if the person was tested earlier than the window period or not. You have your negative result move on.

hello again i would like to know why is it that the clinic i go to always tell me to come back in three months after taking a test after the window period which is three months. In other words is like i should wait six months instead of 12 or 13 weeks that has been bothering me and i would like to know if there has been and documented cases of people being positive after a test at 13 weeks. Also i just figured out that 12 weeks is equals to 84 days and 90 days is equals to 13 weeks so having said that in my calculations if i had a risk in may30 then i should get tested either in the 24 of august or if i was to wait 13 weeks i would have to wait till the first of september which by then it would be 13 weeks and two days . but my concern is if the tests are relliable at that period of time and if they are why do the doctors tell u to come back after that..
sorry experts if i have asked this before but i just would like to know if there has even been any documented cases of people comming back after the window period is over and they have tested negative then come back and test positive

In many countries 12 weeks is regarded as a testing point for a reliable result. Whether it's 12 or 13 weeks, if you have had a negative result you can rely on that.
The exceptions for a longer testing period are those who are active IV drug users or someone who has a severely depleted immune system as in the case of being treated for cancer or other such illness.
Nothing you have reported leads me to expect you should test beyond the 12-13 week period.

By the way is been almost 5 weeks since my last exposure and im more worried than ever and i dont know why. I have not had any symptoms whatsoever and i recently talked to the person i had sex with. and i asked her one more time of her hiv status this was like the six time i asked her because i finally got to talk to her in the messenger and we talked about it she was very mad because she told me that she was tired of me asking her the same thing over and over again. What she said was that she was hiv negative that she tests aevery six months at her company . she said they make her take tests. Now i have never heard of any company making their workers test for hiv. Do you guys? she said it was the guys that transports disable and old people to hospitals but arent those people EMT's if im not mistaken/ I am worried that maybe she was lying to me or maybe she just simply dont know what is her hiv status even though she said she tested negative four months ago and that she will test again in two more months. im goignt crazy over this window period and now this guys shows up saying that he is positive and making all kinds of comments over his status. Man im scare that God is going to punish me for doing what i idid and that this person i had sex is lying or simply does not know what is her status eventhough she says she is completely sure she is negative and that she never has intercourse without condom but as you might remember she sucked me of without a condom and threw the semen in the kitchen and washed her mouth.. I dont know what to think now but im driving myself nuts is been 5 weeks and have had no symptoms becasue i have been trying to keep myself calm but now i just went off and cant rest i dont work out anymore i couldnt eat today man i have talked to my psyciatrist and he has been helping me in going thorugh this window period but i no longer can go without talking to a real expert on hiv.. I cant test at 6 or 8 weeks because im scare that i might come up positvie or a false positive test and i cant wait to have the 13 weeks test i dont know what to do .

San, you are looking to fuel your fears. I suggest you look elsewhere. Our advice, recommendations, and risk assessment are immune to supposition and obsolete/misapplied statistics. I submit that this forum is toxic to you, and that the fears you so eloquently articulate are far beyond aidsmeds.com's ability to address. I certainly hope you get the help you need.

Very New 2 this only knowing that I am + 4 going on 2 weeks and don't recall ever having any symptoms during the window of time when I must have been infected. But 4 what it's worth in the paperwork they gave me it says that the process may take anywhere from 3-12 weeks and that 99% of us will seroconvert within 6months

i got something new for you guys i just got home from work and i was talking to one of my coworkers whos actually a good friend of mine well. He was telling me all about his sexual experience with a white girl (he is black) and he was telling they did ectasis and that they went back to her place and that she was rich and that he fell in love with her.( wow in a couple of hours that was fast) well what surprised me was and made realized why is it that people is being infected every year and every minute is that he was telling he never used a condom with her because she was rich and she was white. and i was like WHAT!!!!! are you crazy man!!! i told him im freaking out because i had sex with a girl and the condom broke ( i cant tellhim it was a transsexual come on now. that is already messing with my manhood and if i tell him that is going to kill me)( im still trying to get over it and convince myself that what i did was not gay and it was a one mistake that never will happen again) anyways i told him that and he was like : look man once u get it you dont have to wrry about getting it anymore you already have it and i was like wow!!! i cant belive this guy is so cool about getting hiv he dont even care so i see now why people is getting it and then hit themselves on the chest and say why me why me welll thats why at least i tried to protect myself and eventhough is not sure that i got cause i have been talking to her and she keeps saying she doesnt have it i might have a pretty good chance of not having it but then again we never know.. well i just felt like telling you this story

This is getting beyond a joke. You say you "can't help" your behaviour but if you are old enough to be having intercourse then you are old enough to start taking control of your behaviour.
You're freaking out over a tiny, tiny, minor risk. You yourself admit that the broken condom still covered the head of your penis and what's more, you also admitted that you aren't even sure if you even entered her. In my book, that's not even a risk at all. None of it. The head of your penis was covered and infection could NOT have taken place.
This is more about your feelings concerning your sexuality than it is about hiv. You had sex with a transexual. Get over it. One event doesn't make you gay and anyway, what's wrong with being gay? This forum is not the place for you to wring your hands over your sexuality. It's offensive as it has heavy homophobic overtones.
You are getting very close to being given a time out, window period or no window period.

Hell experts my apologies from earlier. i am more calm now and really sorry for earlier. i have a question is not about me anymore, now im worry that one of my family member could be infected. i want to ask you something my dad had a tattoe redone about six years ago he has never tested for hiv or other std i think. but he has a tattoe on his chest. with my mom's name i want to know something is been six years since he had it done in argentina by a drug user and i was there when they were doing it and i remember well that my dad was bleeding but i cant remember if the guy changed the needle as i recall that he was stone or drugged and my dad was drunk i remember well . Now im very scare that maybe my dad has it is been six years since then. He has never been very sick. what are the chances of him being infected with the virus and not showing any kind of symptoms or weak inmune system after six years or more. i am very worry now about him he is my dad and i dont want him to die. like i said before he has never shown any sign of weakness in his inmune system he has always been very healthy really hard for him to get sick if not rarely has had the flu many times without complications and has had his tonsils swollen before and gets a infection in his tonsils like once every two years but that he has had since before that happened and also i have it i get it too and i have tested hiv negative two times and with exposures so could it be possible for him to be inefected with it and yet not shown any symptoms i want to say that i work in a prison im a prison guard and there are many hiv positive males that after they get infected they die within two years even the ones that are on medications. Also my dad has not lost weight he still the same so what do you think could he be infected or not?

I am extremely sorry but i have to ask. i see you guys keep saying hiv is a fragilie virus difficult to transmit but if this was true how is it that so many people has become infected with the virus already and many more are still getting infected. sharing needles i know that is just like putting a gun to your head and shooting yourself but in the sex scenerio? And it seems to me that is more likely for a man to transmitt the virus to someone than to someone to transmit it to a man unless of course the man is being used per say.
Well these are my stupid question for today so thanks if anyone of you respond. Oh yeah by the way wish me luck just two more weeks and ill be having an hiv test done plus a check up on other std's thank you for your prayings that is if you are praying for me of course\

There is one very good reason why hiv is infecting so many - many people do not use condoms.
Lots of people think they are not in one of the so called risk groups and therefore, they think hiv is something that will never touch them. Sometimes drugs and/or alcohol is involved and people get reckless under the influence and don't bother with condoms. Some people don't bother with condoms at all, stoned OR sober.
The bottom line that many do not believe applies to them is - use condoms and avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple!

I have to confess that now that you have said that i am scare to go take a test because a broken condom is just the same as not using a condom, i know i have to but im scare i really cannot wait till september the frist to take a test so i am doing on the fourth of august which will 9 weeks and 2 days for me so if i am negative after 9 weeks could i have good chances of being negative if the test is negative i am still taking another onseptember but im taking on august for a peace of mind so any advice

A broken condom is NOT the same as using no condom at all. Until a condom breaks, you are protected. Now, if you were to continue having sex well past a condom break, that's a different story.
Time to move on with life and put your "brush with fate" behind you.
As Ann said, use condoms for penetrative sex and you will avoid hiv infection.

im very sorry i couldnt find my old post it was done in june 01 2006 so please forgive me my question is that now im working at a dentist clinic as an assistant and two months ago i stuck with a needle that i had just used on a hiv positive patient i know she is hiv because they have to tell us so i know for sure she is positive after that i told the doctor and they took me to the hospital and begun the treatment and they give to high risk exposure i took everything for the whole month and i have already had two tests in two months blood tests and they came back negative do you think i still have to worry about it is there a 90% chance for me to have it i know the drill now so im not that scare i just a want something to peace my mind thank you guys hope an answer pretty soon and sorry for mispelling words and not being clearly but i have to confess that im kinda worry

From what you report, there is more like a 99% chance you DON'T have it. With or without PEP, hiv infection through occupational needle stick injury is quite rare.
