Meds in Nicaragua?
« on: August 26, 2013, 07:34:48 pm »
Well, it has been nearly a year since I last posted on this site so Hello to all.
I will be retiring the first of the year from my government job. I now qualify for full monetary benefits including insurance at no cost. My 30 years of hell is almost over!
I don't plan to fade into the sunset and have been offered an opportunity to work a few months in Nicaragua doing what I really love. I checked and Nicaragua doesn't ban HIV+ tourist or short term workers.
Not being a world traveler and knowing that there are a few of you here, I was wondering about how I could get my meds while there? I use a local pharmacy and refill my meds monthly. I asked them if they could ship them there but they were concerned that they would be held up during shipment. Any ideas anyone?
I now see my IDS every six months so that is not a problem.
Peace,
Billy B

I have friends who buy their meds cheap in Nicaragua. Depending on what you take, you might find the meds very available.

Congratulations on your retirement.  30 years, wow.

Nicaragua sounds awesome and looks beautiful.  I hope you have a good time.  How long will you be there?

Do you have a reserve of meds built up that can cover you should your shipment from the US be delayed?  If so you could have your pharmacy fed ex you your pills and even if there is a delay you would be ok?  Otherwise, you could buy them there, I assume yo could buy generics but it depends on what you take.  Not everything is available everywhere so you would need to do a little research.

Don't be fancy, just get dancey

I will be there around four months and then returning to the US for four months then going back. I don't know if they have Isentress there or if the pharmacies there would accept my insurance BCBS (Medco).
I do have extra to cover any small gaps that could occur in shipment but I would feel better knowing exactally what to expect.
I think that I will get in touch with MERCK about the Isentress but I figure Truvada is available most everwhere.

Billy B. I am hoping you read this text. Hope all is well in Nicaragua. I was wondering how you are doing. Did you find your meds? I am going there in the next few months and was wondering about cost and availability.
