Last Voyage of the Demeter (film)

I saw an interesting film yesterday. I’m not sure if anyone else here has read the classic Bram Stoker’s Dracula (published 1897), but if you have, one chapter was devoted to retelling the origin of how Dracula made his way to England aboard a ship named the Demeter.

This film takes that very short premise and expands it to tell the untold story. The film had pretty good effects and the acting was top notch. It sets up a sequel, and while the film is underperforming at the box office, I desperately want to see the story continued.

Any other Bram Stoker or horror fans???

I’m not sure if anyone else here has read the classic Bram Stoker’s Dracula

growing up in a small Baptist high school in the South, classics were about all that we had in the school library. Being a voracious reader after going through all their classics, I turned to the Charlotte public library system - where I found all the really "good" books.

I'm interested in this movie because this plot point is often reduced to just the point of an empty ship coming to dock before Dracula starts eating up the town or heading back to his castle.

the acting was top notch.

horror such a mixed bag. I love the book world's view of horror better since movies seem to trend to either be gore galore or jump scares to cover plot holes. That doesn't mean I don't watch those kinds of movies; but I'm always on the lookout for the one with the jumps, the psychological scare and just enough gore.

Have you seen Dracula Untold? I found it completely by accident and was blown away by how more nuanced it dealt with the lore and world building of the man who would ultimately become Dracula. Now that movie needed a follow-up… hmmmm I wonder if it ever happened?

ah! the luke evans version. I enjoyed it because it was a deeper story but for many of my friends, their opinion was "meh!".  I was reading wikipedia and it said they were trying to work cruise's the mummy into a shared universe but scrapped that and whatever sequel they might have done of DracUntold

I find this movie endlessly fascinating, the concept is really cool and I love the monster's design. I have a hard time watching horror movies so I didn't watch it yet, but maybe someday.

You should def watch it! It plays into the isolation and there being no where to possibly run to! Great atmosphere!
