HIV and Bladder Issues
« on: March 22, 2008, 06:28:43 pm »
I have a history of waking up frequently during sleep with the urge to urinate. This despite sleeping aids. initially it was not bothersome, but now i get up 6/7 times in 9hrs. Saw a Urologist who recommended meds but also informed me HIV causes nerve damage in the bladder. Does anyone else have any relevant info.
Thanks

Hello,

Welcome to the forums. How long ago were you diagnosed HIV positive, and what are your current numbers.

There was a period of time, shortly after I had started meds, That it seemed I was urinating every 30 minutes. I was also getting up quite frequently during the night. ( or in my case the day). The minute I drank something, it came right back out. But eventually things went back to normal. Is the urologist recommending any further tests ?

Have you been tested for any other STD's ?

Thanks for responding
I've been poz for almost 13 yrs and my numbers are good: T's at 750 and viral load undetectable. No STDs. The meds for this are starting to work; I actually had two periods of 3 hrs of sleep  without waking last nite.

Ect, first, welcome to the forums. :)

Oh, I get up about 4-5 x a night having to pee.  Of course, I'm diabetic, so for me it depends a lot on how much sugar I consume before beddy-by.  It is bothersome sometimes.  I also drink a lot of water.  I hope things go better for you and hope to hear more from you.
  Luv,
Betty

I've been on Vesicare for 5 nites and am actually seeing results. I was only up 3x last nite. So I'm hoping it will improve even more.

I've had HIV for 20 years and I rarely wake up to take a piss, and if so never more than once.  I've never heard or read of "HIV causes nerve damage in the bladder" type things.
