UK - Wife has sex, acquires HIV and then sues husband
« on: July 29, 2019, 09:47:04 pm »
I know I should avoid reading tabloid stories but I read this one on various sources.

Very sad that they ended up living with HIV of course and, the short of it is they were in a relationship for 7 years and wed in 2017, but the relationship broke down due to suspicions of cheating although they had trying to rekindle the relationship when she got sick and diagnosed with HIV. She blames him although she believes he didn't know he was living with HIV until she was diagnosed.

So what got me posting this.

Social media comments seem to support her case, now although as said it is sad/unfortunate they both ended up living with HIV I honestly don't have any sympathy for her case or similar stories.

I would have more sympathy with a lawsuit if as an example one partner knew they are living with HIV, without treatment and caused transmission but that would then become a different story in my opinion. In this case, he didn't know and, she accepted the risks by engaging in sex. Sex comes with the risk of pregnancy & STI's -  fairly easy concept I thought.

Now I totally understand that couples in the world do engage within relationships in acts that can lead to transmission of STI's/HIV, I do it myself as there is a degree of trust within the relationship, however, end of the day trust or faith does not prevent HIV/STI's or Pregnancy and, sex is simply accepting a possible risk. I find it bizarre to accept a risk and, then sue over it.

Preach!  I've always held to the idea that once an adult personal responsibility kicks in.  I hold no I'll will to who infected me.  I don't believe they knew or were trying to infect.  I paid my money and took my chances.

It is not a criminal offence to have sex while HIV-positive if the sufferer does not know they have the disease, or if they have told their partner, and took reasonable steps to avoid infecting them.

Most media tabloids know next to nothing about hiv. Instead they spread huge stigmas with every chance they get, look at the Charlie sheen situation,if you search at the interviews the only things they ask is if he put people at risk. Plus they also refer to the virus as AIDS.
Sure, there are some crazy people in the world who infect others knowingly, but every news outlet portrays hiv positive people as ticking time bombs and nowhere have I seen them promoting u=u,prep, pep or any info about transmition.

Yeah the media suck and, and generally very poor with the language used when it comes to HIV. It's also all about demonizing or sensationalism to sell copies or get clicks instead of news.

Although, does not help though when people are suing each-other instead of accepting  responsibility over their own actions and, moving on with their lives (Or seeking the help to do so)
